"Checking out the rest of the ship is being a good idea," Gianna nods.

Heading back into the airlock room, you return to the two other hallways. One leads into a short corridor that has a single door. The door has multiple locks on it and a tiny eyehole towards the top. The second hallway splits off into two other doors, both reinforced with thick steel bars. The one on the right is ajar, while the left one is shut.

“My vote is to go first through the open door but expect to have company come at us from the other.” “Birdie” volunteers.

“Aye- let’s ave at it!” Cassandra says,  her own sword and shield in hand.

Going through the cracked door, you find yourself in a large room. In a corner, there lies a chest and four wooden barrels, marked "explosives." In the opposite corner, there are boxes of rations and a life preserver. On the back wall, there is a large rack with rails reaching to the ceiling. Below the rack is a metal trapdoor with "ESCAPE POD HATCH: STAND BACK" painted on the floor next to it.

"Well, explosives sound like fun." Robin comments as she looks over the chests. "Escape pod also sounds useful." She nods to the trap door. "Unless you guys want to check here further though, shall we check one of those other doors?"

“That letter mentioned ‘escape pod’ and ‘explosives’ for blowing up a dam, and here they are. I guess we can still expect to come across a ‘demolition squad’ and a ‘deck wizard’. Is there any way to secure that hatch so that there’s no way they can use it, should they defeat us?” “Birdie” looks to the others.

"We could put some of the crates atop the hatch." Robin suggests. "Won't completely stop them, but should slow them down if we are in pursuit."

"Birdie" will help drag barrels and crates to cover the hatch. He'll also search the chest before dragging it over the hatch, as well.

The chest yields a handful of tools worth 2 gp, a coil of 200 feet of fuse-string, and a full matchbox.

The hatch is quite solidly covered with all the barrels and crates in the room. If the escape pod ever attempts to return, it will have quite the struggle getting in.

(Whoa whoa whoa, we already missed the bad guys? They’re already setting the charges? I didn’t get that from what I’ve read so far.)

 (I never mentioned that the pod was there, and I figured that the description of an empty rack and hatch would tip you off. In hindsight, that wasn't the most clear description I could have given. Yeah the pod is not there any more, my bad :P )

So the explosives are gone as well? This will likely affect what we do next, so need to make sure I have the full picture. It looks like the pod was used to take the explosives and some of the crew, and is likely heading to blow up the target these guys were after. If that is the case then Robin's next move will be far different than previously posted.

 The four aforementioned explosives barrels are still there, but given the size of the room, it likely held dozens more. The pod is gone as well.

(Your assumption about the enemy's plan is correct. Again, apologies for the misunderstanding.)

"We are too late." Robin says as she stares around the room. "We need to get back to the surface, and get to where they are planning to set those charges. We may already be too late." She glances to the captains. "If they blow those charges they will have done what they came for and little else we did here would make much of a difference."
