Seeing the enormous size of these creatures, Belkas belatedly wonders if stealth, trickery, or even evasion might not have been wiser routes to follow. He readies himself for a combat he is not sure they can win.
As Arisa’s next fire bolt burns a small black hole in the giant’s thick belly, Shalvus pops up and fires another bolt from his hand crossbow at the other one. Unfortunately, the giant’s thick hide seems to absorb the shot, and the big, stupid creature keeps lumbering forward with a bolt in its belly.
If one of the giants is close enough, she will run up to it and strike with deadly speed at whatever sensitive flesh she can reach, using her deft motions to avoid any retaliation before rushing backwards out of their immediate reach at least. A classic hit and run attack, hopefully an effective one as well.

Moving forward up to 30' to get in rage so she's next to only one of the giants to attack him before running back another 30' with her bonus action.
Rapier Attack: 3+8 = 11 Damage: 11+11 = 22
The giant she attacked will not be able to take an opportunity attack against her.
Seeing that Shalvus was unsuccessful in his attack, Miros loads his own crossbow and aims for the second giant's head. He releases just as the giant moves, and his shot sails right by the creature. Zi Liang follows by slinging another stone at the huge, lumbering thug, but the rock doesn't even cause the giant to flinch.
That's when Zyllith dashes ahead and tries to strike up close with her rapier. Speeding across the grass towards the second giant, she gets within a few feet of it, and for the first time, she gets a first hand view of just how big this thing actually is. A third again as hefty as an ogre, and nearly twice the weight, the hill giant towers over her with an immense frame, its foul, stinking, partially charred body odor invading her nostrils.
Zyllith stabs at the giant's gut with her rapier, but as slow as it is, the giant bats it away with its huge, muscular arm. Wasting no time, she dashes backwards, ending up where she started.
As the first, more injured giant catches sight of the lone hammer wielding gnome standing out there just past the edge of the field, it becomes fixated on this small, seemingly easy and probably tasty target in front of him. It covers the ground between them with but a few wide strides, and Vernon can feel the vibrations of its steps in the ground beneath his own feet. If Vernon thought the ogre was big, this giant towers over him at nearly five times his own height. Staying light on his toes so as to be able to move quickly and try to doges any attack that comes his way, Vernon stands his ground against the enormous creature as it swings a massive, muscular arm at him, trying to bash him with a fist that's bigger than his own head.
Attack: 24 Damage: 12
He tries to duck, but the giant is quicker than he had anticipated. The fist hits him like a bag full of river rocks and nearly knocks him out. A very woozy Vernon struggles with everything he has to remain upright and conscious as his head spins and the stars float around in his field of vision.
Realizing that Vernon won’t possibly survive another blow like that, Belkas targets the giant with a pair of arcane blasts that explode with bright flashes in front of its face. A second later, Crowley flies in from behind and stings it in the back of the neck, making his most deadly attack of the night The giant howls in pain, although being such a large creature, it seems to weather at least some of the effects of the poison. Still, it’s obviously showing a severe amount of injury.
Loading another arrow into his bow, Elion fires at the giant’s head, sticking it right in the neck.
Lifferlas has been slowly advancing, and the tree exits the field, approaches to within 10 feet of the other giant, and slams its head with one of his massive branches. The giant takes the hit, but it definitely seems dazed.
Osmord concentrates on the Giant attacking Vernon and casts cause fear if the spell takes hold he will charge toward the creature hoping to make it flee. If not he will stand his ground and keep his distance.
Osmord emerges a few feet from the field and casts his spell. Unfortunately, the giants don’t seem to respond to the magic, and instead keeps his focus on hire own pain, and on the tasty gnome in front of him. Seeing this, Osmord retreats back into the wheat.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
10 to hit
10 fire damage
Arisa again stands, shoots her firebolt at the one on Vernon, and then drops back into the wheat for cover. (If she can move 15’ further back and still be in 120’ firebolt range she will.)
she looks at Vernon with horror, but sees he’s still miraculously standing.
Arisa's fire bolt streaks towards the giant and burns another hole in the creature's chest. By now, the badly injured giant is looking in worse shape than Vernon, having endured a relentless volley of fire attacks and arrows that have nearly brought it to its knees.
Unfortunately, Vernon is still quite woozy with slightly blurred vision, and as big as the giant is in front of him, he still fails to get an effective hit with his hammer.
Naxene and Shalvus, both intent on trying to this down the the giant before it can land another terrifying hit on Vernon, launch their own attacks, but neither of them are able to do any real damage.
However, it's Miros who finally brings the giant down with a well-placed crossbow bolt to the head. The shot kills the enormous thug, who's bleeding, burned body crashes to the earth with a loud thump, right next to the woozy gnome. A collective sigh of relief can be heard from a few of the townsfolk who fight alongside you.
"Excellent shot, Miros!!!! Now let's all bring the other one down!!" Naxene shouts.
Feeling a bit more emboldened and less wary about the possible consequences, Zi Liang whips her sling around and hurls another stone at the second giant, hitting it in the forehead.
Zyllith makes another lighting quick attack sortie, this time being a little more keen to the giant's simplistic, but very powerful fighting style; if it could even be considered a style at all. Really, it's just simple brute force bashing with very little sense of agility. At any rate, Zyllith succeeds in delivering a deep puncture wound into its thigh before retreating out of the giant's reach.
From his position deep in the field, Belkas sends two more Edritch Blasts at the huge thuggish creature, one of which bursts with a bright flash and forceful impact on the giant's chest.
Meanwhile, Lifferlas moves over towards the second giant, and with a might blow of one of its lower branches, pounds it to within an inch of its life. The giant falls to its knees, bruised and bleeding and begins to sob and blubber like a huge baby, curling up in a fetal position and putting its arms over its head in an instinctive, universal display of self-protection.
Seeing a potential opportunity, Arisa says “let’s spare its life- we should ask it where it comes from and whom it serves- if this was just a random assault by a hungry group of savages, or part of something larger... “
Clearly relived that no one fell at the hands of these two huge and reckless creatures, Naxene asks, "I am in agreement, but how are we to communicate with it? Do any of you speak the language of the giants?"
Meanwhile, Zi Laing heads over to inspect the area around the wall. Aside from the blood of this battle, you see the bodies of a handful of dead guards who were obviously killed during the attack. From this side, the smaller inner wall is only 20 feet tall, and looks to be rather easy to scale. You know from your view as you approached the town yesterday that the outer wall is much bigger, 60 feet tall from the outside, but it's clearly in need of repair in many places. Time and weather have eroded some of the mortar, creating ruts between the stones that can serve as handholds and footholds.
In addition, the outer wall is built out at several points, spaced at least a mile apart, with 30 foot high stone pagodas and barracks at those locations. Zi Laing informs you that guards are stationed at each of these locations, but they're so far apart that a group of invaders. She also tells you that the watch posts were designed to warn Goldenfields of approaching armies and dragons, and while the watch posts and the wall patrols provide a great measure of security, a small group of invaders could scale the outer wall and enter the compound undetected, which is clearly what happened here.
You surmise that a small group of guards who happened to be patrolling this part of the wall noticed the incursion and tried to stop it. Unfortunately, they fell before they could alert anyone else.
Ok, Arisa, Vernon and Zyllith are up first!
Seeing the enormous size of these creatures, Belkas belatedly wonders if stealth, trickery, or even evasion might not have been wiser routes to follow. He readies himself for a combat he is not sure they can win.

“don’t give up hope! They are huge but we can do this if we work together!” She says to the group, her voice quivering a little with fear…

Belkas throws two Eldritch Blasts at the giant attacking Vernon and calls on Crowley to attack the same.
He then crouches in the wheat and moves to a different position.
