"If someone has a spare flask, we could probably collect enough poison spores to fill it. Otherwise, I think we are done here and should move on. I would hate to find out that this thing had a family looking for vengeance."
"I don't have a clue, Elion. All I know is that it smells worse than it looks. I for one am ready to move on the streets of Waterdeep. Although the urban stench is not much better, it will be good to have a roof over our heads."
Arisa doesn't know specifically what kind of creature this was, but she knows well enough that fiends are creatures of wickedness that are native to the Lower Planes. A few are the servants of deities, but many more labor under the leadership of archdevils and demon princes. If she had to guess, she would figure that that this is probably some kind of demon.
It is well known that evil priests and mages sometimes summon fiends to the material world to do their bidding. They can also through some kind of planar gate to bridge the gap between their own world and the material plane. Arisa would also know that this victory has only killed the material body of this creature, and that only way to truly destroy a demon is to seek it in the Abyss and kill it there on its own plane.
It is now getting even later in the afternoon. When you first arrived at the river bank, you were considering whether to begin looking for a place to camp, or press on a bit further. What would you like to do?
"Let us travel a little further along the river. I want some distance between us and that evil den," Siobhan says as she tucks the flask of spores into her satchel.
“Agreed. If this thing was summoned… we don’t want to meet the summoner..”. Arisa shares what little she knows of these things. Realizing it had been too long since she’d been studying her arcana.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
With the awareness she and her companions needed to leave this cave and find a safe location to rest for the night, Siobhan began to scan the terrain for a good camping site.
Zyllith follows along, letting the experts search for tonight's campsite, she is definitely not comfortable with the amount of damage the group has taken, both to their health and their gear, so she is anxious to get some rest and make their way to a city to get new gear soon.
Continuing back across the small knee deep tributary, you retrace your earlier direction that heads back to the Northfurrow Trail, angling a little bit to the southwest so as to try and shorten the distance back the trail. You walk for about an hour and a half, covering about 5-6 miles, all the while, keeping your eyes open for as suitable camp spot. The terrain here is rolling plains, spotted with widely spaced trees.
Since you're away from any main track, you don't see any obvious campsites that have been used recently by other travelers, but you do come across a few good options: flat spots at the tops of some of the small rises that offer good visibility all around, beneath the branches of the scattered oak trees out in the flatter areas, or tucked away amongst the brush in small, shallow, secluded dells.
After considering their options, Siobhan looks towards her companions and points to a likely spot amidst the brush. "We are low on resources. Better to rest in as much seclusion as possible and be hidden from any dangers. Best not light any fires to be safe."
Belkas follows Siobhan down into the brush, wincing as little thorns tear at his arms. Another cold night then without a fire, but better that than another battle in their weakened state.
When they find a place to camp, he pulls out his bed roll and sits on it to eat some cold dry provisions, with all the flavor of sawdust.
Moving with the heavily-laden Misniúl down into one of the shallow dips in the hilly terrain, the five of you, plus Shalvus and Ellion hunker your exhausted bodies down tightly amongst a small collection of bushes and set up your bedrolls as you watch the warm, end of day light slowly fade from the hills above. It's been a long day of travel, and compounded by the brutal fight with the winged vulture-like demon, as well as dealing with the mushrooms and the puddles of slime, you guys are weary, injured, and ready for this day to be done.
Probing her memory during the past hour, Arisa recalls that the thing you fought might be called a Vrock, which are brutal, greedy fiends that live only to create pain and carnage. They clearly have a love of treasure, from what you discovered in their lair, and given the large amount of coin and remains you found in the cave, it's obvious that this creature had been conducting murderous raids for quite awhile. You don't know of any small settlements that might be situated nearby, but given the the Northfurrow Trail was about 10-12 miles from it's lair, it's quite possible that the Vrock had used that as one of its hunting grounds.
After you eagerly consume a hefty helping of dried rations for the evening, you lie down and prepare for a much-needed rest, while Crowley and Belkas stay up for first watch. As night falls upon you, and you hear the hoots of owls in the night, as well as the loud chirping of crickets, your minds look towards the next leg off your journey, which includes getting tp Waterdeep, (you should reach the city by tomorrow night, if you travel quickly,) and finding Xi Liang's contact, a man named Cauldar Marskyl, who is the head butler of House Thann.
After that, you promised Lifferlas that you would travel to Shadowtop Cathedral and look for a moon elf druid named Aerglas, who may be able to help you in this emerging fight against the giants that so brutally attacked Goldenfields, Nightstone, and other communities, as you've heard. After that... who knows what lies ahead of you.
Fortunately, nothing bothers you that night, and you're able to complete a full night of secluded rest down in the little brush-filled dell. You awake feeling rested, recuperated and ready for another long day of travel to reach Waterdeep. By now, the sun is rising above the hilly grasslands and is beginning to spill its warmth down into the little dip where you're camped.
Before the next leg of their journey begins, Siobhan speaks softly and cups her hands to summon a bit of Druidic magic. There is a soft glow of green light which she focuses on to see what the weather will hold for the next day.
"If someone has a spare flask, we could probably collect enough poison spores to fill it. Otherwise, I think we are done here and should move on. I would hate to find out that this thing had a family looking for vengeance."
Siobhan gets out her herbalism kit and uses a flask to collect some of the spores with care.
It takes a few minutes, but you're able to carefully collect a small sample of the spores.
By this time, Misnúil has returned with Shalvus and Elion, who gasp with amazement and horror at the dead creature when they dismount.
"What in the name of the nine hells is that thing?" asks Elion.
"I don't have a clue, Elion. All I know is that it smells worse than it looks. I for one am ready to move on the streets of Waterdeep. Although the urban stench is not much better, it will be good to have a roof over our heads."
Arisa thinks about what she’s read about evil creatures of other planes. 12 arcana.
”yes let’s get moving”. She agrees

Vernon nods. "Every little bit of distance towards Waterdeep will help, and that foul place could cause nightmares, for all we know."
Belkas nods his agreement, picks up his things and follows the others.
