Belkas watched for a reaction to his taunting and then shrugged when he saw that they were not going to react, he said, "What a waste of artistic talent. Osmord. I am going to see if the others need help. I don't know if you want to stay here with Zyllith and make sure or shady friends don't open the gates while we are busy, or if you would prefer to come with me and fight orcs down by the bridge."
Belkas then ran full speed down to the bridge.
--- I am unsure if Belkas gets any attacks after running, but if he does, he will use Eldritch Blast with the Repelling Blast Invocation to push the orcs down into the water or off the walls.
Osmord gives a grunt of agreement and calls worm close, "I will go fight now, you stay here and watch them all, call me if they advance." Osmord leaves worm to keep an eye on matters with the orcs outside while he descends.
Passing the gate and Xolkin and Kella he turns and mumbles an incantation toward the lever causing a glowing green skull to appear above it for a moment, accompanied by the screams of the tortured dead. (Prestidigitation) He turns then to the two would be bandits,
"I have cursed the gate, to touch it is certain death... come now and help us!" Osmord heads toward the bridge then as fast as his legs can carry him.
Arriving there and presuming he has time he will loose an attack upon the first two orcs he sees :
After Osmord leaves his glowing green skull above one of the drawbridge levers and addresses Kella and Xolkin, you see that they look at each other briefly, before nodding. However, they do not immediately rush towards the bridge. Instead, Xolkin says that he's going to inspect the rest of the palisade to make sure there are no other weaknesses where the orcs might enter. He and Kella then wander across the square towards the northern side of the village. (Zyllith can roll a Stealth check to follow)
When Osmord arrives at the bridge he joins Arisa and Belkas, and between the three of you, you manage to kill the two closest orcs who were swimming towards you. However, there are now 8 more in the water, splashing and paddling as they make progress across the moat towards the bridge. Seeing that they have a bit of time to spare, two of the guards cross your makeshift repaired bridge and rush up towards the keep to retrieve more weapons.
You'll get three more rounds of attacks before they arrive.
Zyllith follows Xolkin and Kella closely to ensure they don't do anything undesirable. Staying out of sight while using her light footsteps, she tries to get close enough to overhear any conversation if need be.
Arisa will do 3 more rounds of firebolts to the fastest swimmers in the group, and positioning to cover the wall with a slick of ice when they start to emerge.
she will focus her attacks on one orc at a time, only switching when one goes down- to (hopefully) decrease the numbers that we will eventually face.
Darkness flows around Belkas as he blasts Eldritch Blast after Eldritch Blast at the swimming orcs with brutal accuracy and strength. He uses the Repelling Blast Invocation to push the orcs down into the water and back the way they came.
Belkas calls out in orcish, "Your fearless leader sent you out to die in the water like drowned puppies while he hides and trembles. Worse than that, none of you dare to challenge him and take his place. You should be ashamed to call yourselves orcs!" --- 1: Attack 23, damage 7 2: Attack 25, damage 18 (critical hit) 3: Attack 22, damage 11
(If Belkas finishes off any of the Orcs, please let me know so I can apply the Dark One's Blessing. )
Osmord sees the Orcs swimming closer and reaches into his component pouch. Uttering incantations under his breath he opens out his hand to reveal a small pile of blackened sand. It stirs slightly as he chants and then he blows it out over the water. Osmord casts sleep on 25 HP of the swimming brutes.
Vernon will raise his lance to the sky towards the Orcs. "Come and try us at close range if you dare, orcs! Some of us have not yet begun to fight!" He will throw in another Resistance on himself just in case any are capable of returning fire.
"Vernon, perhaps when this is all over we can discuss the sacred art of using the crossbow. You point at your enemy, squeeze your finger and then let your gods decide where the bolt will fall. It is not as effective as skewering them on your lance of course, but it definately has its time and place."
"No offense meant, my friend. I thought you might have religious reasons for not using one, and I was trying to sell it to you in a new light." Belkas grins at Vernon before turning back to the orcs.
You continue to pepper the swimming orcs with spell attacks, reducing the initial ten down to four who finally reach the base of the bridge, although one of the four is injured. (Three of the orcs were killed by Belkas, who managed to finish off the trio after Arisa's fire bolts slowed them down and reduced their strength, and one of them is sunk by Osmord's sleep spell.
The bridge has six supports, so all four of the orcs are able to grab hold of the pilings and begin climbing up at the same time. Arisa's Shape Water cantrip allows her to reduce their options, but given that it has a five foot cube effect, the icy wall isn't big enough to prevent their ascent. The four orcs pull themselves out of the water, shimmy their way up the supports and flop onto the bridge, sopping wet, just as the other two guards rush out of the keep on the other side of the bridge with four more javelins in hand.
If they are deterred by the fact that over half of their group was decimated by you, it does not show through their aggressive posturing as they now face you for close combat. What has been easy targets is suddenly a very different prospect, and you now find yourselves facing four large battle-ready humanoids with thick limbs, stocky torsos and broad gray faces, complete with the characteristic lower fangs that just from their lower jaws and armed with great axes.
Seeing the other two guards come out with additional arms, Sydiri and Kaelam each grab two tossed javelins from the other guards and rush back towards the watchtowers to make sure the front gate remains secure. Torem and Alara remain on the other side of the bridge, ready for battle.
After crawling up onto the bridge section that's closest to the village, the first orc lunges towards Vernon, who is standing there at the ready with his lance. He swings his great axe at the gnome with an intimidating battle cry. Attack: 18 Damage: 5. The other goes after Arisa with a potentially deadly swing of his own. Attack: 7 Damage: 10
Alara and Torem both throw javelins at one of the orcs (#3), who is just now making it up on the bridge, but is behind the other two. (Only two can stand side by side, so for you, I was assuming it was Vernon and Arisa.) Attack: 7 Damage: 6, and Attack: 11 Damage: 6.
Alara's throw is well aimed and her javelin sticks into the orc's lower back, bringing a roar of pain from the injured creature.
Belkas, Osmord and Vernon are up. Belkas and Osmord are currently standing behind Vernon and Arisa, who has fallen unconscious from the brutal hit she took from the orc.
Belkas cries out as he sees Arias collapse under the swing of the orc's axe. He throws an Eldritch Blast at the most wounded orc and moves farther away to give the melee fighters space.
Belkas's blast slams into the already injured orc who just delivered the ghastly blow against his companion. The spell is powerful enough to kill the orc instantly, and it reels backwards in its death throws and falls from the bridge before plunging into the moat.
Belkas watched for a reaction to his taunting and then shrugged when he saw that they were not going to react, he said, "What a waste of artistic talent. Osmord.
