THE HOUSE OF REST

This three-story bunkhouse in the Court of Air provides seekers (visitors like yourselves who enter Candlekeep are called Seekers) with a place to rest and store their gear. The rustic accommodations include both private rooms and common rooms. In addition to comfortable lodgings, the House of Rest offers guests peace and quiet. Noisy patrons are directed to the Hearth if they want to continue their revels.

There is a sign on the wall by reception that states The House of Rest can hold up to fifty guests comfortably. If more space is needed, extradimensional spaces are created using Mordenkainen’s magnificent mansion spells, the doorways to which are located at the ends of the upstairs hallways. Beneath the House of Rest is an extension of the library known as the Firefly Cellar.

A young man behind the counter says, "Greetings, Seekers, and welcome to the House of Rest. Rock on, dudes. How may I assist you today?"

Orvok steps up to the counter, a relaxed good natured smile on his face.

’Good day sir. We’re seeking counsel with the mage Matreous, if he’s presently within.’ he leans closer ‘It’s a matter of some urgency for the youngsters here..’ he says firmly

"Matreous?" the receptionist's face twists in confusion, checking paperwork. "Oh! You must be the investigators! Excellent! Yes, Matreous has not exited his room for days now. We were most worried."

"He hasn't come out in days?  That seems odd."  She continues with her best persuasive voice possible "Might you show us to his room - we are eager to find him and discuss a matter of upmost importance to this kind mage." she gestures towards Emporious.

Nodding in agreement with Isa,  Emporious extends both arms with his index fingers pointing out and laying side by side. He draws a square in the air by miving his fingers apart and down then back together ending in a light clap of his hands. Archimedes suddenly begins to collapse and dissapear as if sucked into a pin hole in space as he is dismissed into an extra dimentional pocket.

"Best we tuck him away for the time being. Makes it easier to move around in doors." He explains to Isa in particular but really for anybody that cares.

"He hasn't come out in days?  That seems odd."  She continues with her best persuasive voice possible "Might you show us to his room - we are eager to find him and discuss a matter of upmost importance to this kind mage." she gestures towards Emporious.

"Yes. Of course. Right this way."

You are all led to a private study room that was assigned to Matreous days ago. When the room is opened, it is unoccupied. Only the sage’s personal effects and a handful of books remain. One particular book is obvious, on his desk. It is called: The Joy of Extradimensional Spaces and is open to a page with someone's scribbled notes.

"Should you find any clues to his whereabouts, we would be very curious to know. Good luck." And the receptionist leaves you all to your "investigations".

Isa looks at the young man "Thank you, and we most certainly will."

A singular command words stands out from the notes in the book: "Scepter".

"Emporious, do you see this?" walking closer to the 'Joy of Extradimensional Spaces' book "The notes here have the word 'Scepter' written down, do you know what this might mean?"

"Let me think...."

He looks over the sheet of paper while tapping his upper lip, left arm across his body supporting his right, his right index oerforming the tapping.

The word appears to be a verbal command, perhaps activating something.

‘If you give me a moment I’ll see what might be veiled against our mundane senses...’ says Orvok and, working as quickly as he can, takes a few minutes in prayer with Clangeddin to ritually cast Detect Magic...

“It appears to be some kind of command word according to these notes... maybe” Isa pauses for a second as if to think through what she is about to say “maybe we should speak it out as a command.”

"What kind of command word is scepter....." Mavshoon says

Just as Orvok casts Detect Magic, and Mav says "Scepter", in a brilliant arcane explosion a portal opens. On the other side appears to be the first entryway to a mansion you've never seen before.

"Well that was unexpected....."

"I knew it!!" Isa exclaims "It was a command word." 

Looking towards Emporious "Is this another dimension?  Do you think Matreous..." she pauses fearing the worst "went in there?"
