An open landing waits at the top of the stairs. Four closed doors lie before you, and a large entryway gapes from across the hall to the south.
H7 - BEDROOM
This dim room holds nothing but a bed, partially coated in debris from the collapsed chimney. Cold air gusts in through the gaps.
H8 - MASTER BEDROOM
A double bed sits beneath the windows along the far wall. A fireplace occupies one corner, and a window looks out onto the front yard. The room contains a pile of crumpled, half-written letters on the fireplace mantelpiece.
In room H7, Hino’s sensors note the cold airflow. “Strange. This room appears to be breathing, almost as if this building were alive. Not creepy at all. Nah…”

As the group continues to move through the upstairs, Isa is simply convinced that something is still watching them... "I still feel like something is watching us... it's very unsettling, can we please hurry up and finish going through this place?" She head over to where Orvok is looking through half written letters and tries to help out in looking through them in an effort to speed things along.
Investigation: 14
"Have you found anything of interest over here?" she asks Orvok
Hino, Emporious, would you like to follow them or blaze our own trail through? Us three together, i feel like we can handle most things. Id like to ask Orvok about that bauble he found, but ill be able to ask him later when were all together. Barbär says confidently, swinging his warhammer by the bottom leather loop.
Th letters chronicle the disaster at the mine and the village’s anguish at so many victims. The mayor recounts the rescue efforts in the following days, and how they had to stop the search due to fears of more cave-ins if they attempted to remove any more of the rubble, even with miners still missing. She writes of villagers going missing in the night, of her helplessness, and of stubbornly staying on, determined to find the missing villagers while Tifra and their two children, Tavin and Nia, evacuated. The last few pages speak of the mayor’s nightmares, of her creeping fear and waking in the night, soaked in sweat, with lingering screams echoing in her ears.
H9 - THE LIBRARY
Shelves filled with books line the walls of this library, and four wingback chairs sit around a low table in the center of the room. The wide bank of windows in the south wall affords a panoramic view of the dilapidated houses beyond the twisting branches of the tree in the front yard. Several open books lie on the table.
With notes scribbled on bits of paper stuck between their pages, the books have topics that include the effects of physical and emotional trauma, nightmares, and mysterious disappearances as of late. Seemingly out of place in comparison to the other topics, a book about the Feywild and its sundry creatures holds a single note, written in a shaky hand. It reads: Could this be the answer? The note marks a page with an entry on "meenlocks", which includes the following information: Meenlocks are corrupted fey creatures that spontaneously manifest in response to fear in places where the border with the Feywild is thin. Meenlocks create more of their kind by transforming humanoids through a process of psychic torment that takes hours or days. Meenlocks live in subterranean nests. Meenlocks are sensitive to bright light and can sense shadows and darkness.
As if on cue, you can feel something watching you.
As Isa and Orvok look through the half written pages and Isa sees the last few pages indicating a creeping fear "See... I told you...." she says as she points it out to Orvok, "I think whatever caused this to happen is still here.... I keep getting that creepy fear feeling like they mention!"
"I may have found something...." Mav says loud enough for those on this floor to hear.
"Also, I am starting to think we are not alone." as he looks around for the source of his feeling "What does everyone know about the Fae? It seems that perhaps someone believed something called meerlocks may be responsible."

Emporious moves up stairs with the rest. He pauses on the landing as the party breaks off into different rooms. Just as he is about to follow Mav into the library he hears Barbär ask him to split off. He barely gets out the reply, "I don't think that would be a good idea. Besides everyone seems to get distressed when I wander off." When he hears Mav's announcement. "A Meenlock and Fae? Hmmm...let me see." The wizard assumes his usual thinking pose of right elbow resting on his wrapped around left arm with his right index finger tapping his lower lip and chin.
Arcana: 20
He proceeds to relate the same information about the Meenlocks as was written in the books as well as some interesting Fae tidbits.
"That does sound like our culprit. It would appear that perhaps the cave-in disturbed a nest. We should be extra cautious and all the more reason to stick close."
‘No bodies…’ Orvok says significantly, sharing a look with the group. ‘I don’t think I’d recommend that we sleep in this village.. Right, let’s keep moving. Sooner we find them, the sooner we end the threat.’
Barbär, not expecting any answer in particular, follows close behind until most enter the room, and he will stay at the landing and patiently wait. While hes there he dusts himself off almost like a preening bird, going over his armor noting any blemishes that will need to be redone.
He becomes almost lost in thought then snaps out of it as they start talking about everything out loud more, and shuffles inside slowly, with a bit more worry as he starts getting the creeps again.
Yes, id prefer not to sleep here myself. There is something off about the feeling here. Almost feels like... He says as he casts Detect Magic

Hearing Mav speak up, about the writings he found concerning the Meenlocks, it grabs Isa's attention. She thinks hard trying to recall anything she can about these creatures.
Arcana: 21 History: 16
In a slight paranoid fashion, Isa heads over to Mav "Can I see that book?" she asks. Quickly she starts looking through and reading any information that she can glean about these creatures.

"Transform humanoids by PSYCHIC TORMENT...." she reads aloud with a slight shaking in her voice. "Sensitive to bright light.... yes, that might be the trick.... they can't handle the bright light!" Immediately she cast Light on the tip of her arcane staff "That should help protect us a bit." she says nervously.

hm. Im not picking anything up in the area with a magic sweep. Seems like it may be best to keep that light going for as long as we can. Did you all hear that? Hours or days. It could come on quickly. We must hurry.

Last to know and first to be blamed...
As a free action, can I regret my life choices?
In H8 Orvok takes a look at the half-written letters, looking for some insight into what happened here…
Barbär keeps his body-guard like demeanor, and not letting Emporious or Hino get to far, he also takes a look at the ring in the painting.
Does that ring match the thing Orvok found? I wonder... Ho, Orvok! He calls out, hoping the sound will carry

"Right then, this place doesn't seem to hold much information as to what happened here. Has anyone else found anything worthwhile?"
