Across the continent know as Terria, after the day has ended and the night has fallen, a bright aurora fills the summer sky. For how beautiful it is however, this light show seems somehow dangerous, almost threatening. You, you weary traveler, have already chosen your resting spot for this night; be it a cozy bed in some lavish tavern, by the warm campfire surrounded by your traveling companions, or maybe you are tucked away in a prison cell; lying on the cold hard floor, slipping off into an uncomfortable sleep while awaiting some trial for the next day. But that next day does not come.
What feels like only a moment passes between after you have gone to sleep to when you awaken and you are cold, far colder than you've ever been before. You feel like you are trapped, a heavy weight pressing down on you slowly suffocating you. In a panic you frantically dig your way up through the mass of what you know now to be densely packed snow. Freeing yourself from this icy grave you begin gasping, taking in breaths of fresh air as you gather your wits to take in the sight before you.A snow-covered mountain range fills your sight stretching from east to west, north to south, seeming to go on forever. The sky awash with brilliant blue, teal, and purple hues. It's strange though as it all seems slightly off, as if everything has been covered in a haze. Before you have time to ponder what this might mean, the wind picks up and deathly chill overcomes you. Forced to seek shelter in a nearby cave, you enter to find a roaring fire has already been lit and loose furs from an assortment of different animals fill the cavern's floors. As you move to sit by the fire and warm yourself, you begin to see others emerge from the shadows as well, others who seem to be in the same predicament yourself.
Hello everyone. My name is Shy and I am hoping to gather a group of about 4-5 players for a short One-shot game. I've played a few play-by-post games, but this will be my first game as a Dungeon Master. Even better it will be my first Homebrew game.(And I'm very excited.) I hope you all will be patient with me as i try to figure everything out.
Characters: Please start characters off at level 3. Everything will be manual and I will give exp at the end of each encounter. You all also get one uncommon magic item of our choice and one common magic item of your choice. For all those interested please post your character, their backstory, and a link to their character sheet below.
Rules: I don't have many rules. As I like people being as creative as they can be,but these are the few that I do have.
All humanoid-like races are up for grabs, with the exception of bugbears and goblins. (They simply don't fit into my world right now.)
Stats can be point buy, standard array, or you can roll in the forum if you wish to spice it up. Simply roll six times and assign them as you would in a real life game. If your rolls end up being bad you can always ask for a reroll.
You are free to use whatever books you like so long as you have access to them on site, be it the Player's handbook, Xanathar's, Volo's, etc.
Try to post once a day if you can, once every two days at the very least. I know right now it is the middle of the holidays and things can get a little crazy so I am very lax about this right now, but if you do end missing for a week or two without explanation the story will move on without you.
Keep your posts at a good length, not long and overly dramatic, but they don't have to be super short, I want you all to role-play and have fun with these characters.
That should cover everything, but if you all have any questions please feel free to PM me.

Backstory: Quintoc spent his early years among the elves of his mother's clan, learning their ways, but soon realized that he was different. He would never be a true elf. He was restless and curious about his human heritage. So when he was still but a child, he decided to steal away to a human city. There he began a relationship with a beautiful, roguish girl, named Elo. She drew him into a shady life and together they made their way among thieves and other criminals. They came of age together on the streets, falling in love, while engaging in all sorts of misdeeds, battling rival gangs and avoiding the law. One day, though, their exploits took them too far. They broke into the home of a reclusive and wealthy noblewoman, Malaine Der Luttan, who also happened to be a vampire. Elo did not survive the encounter and Quintoc was allowed to flee, terrified, with his heart broken, and his whole world torn down. The cruel laughter of that vampire as she took Elo's life is seared in Quintoc's memory. Quintoc left the city and resumed his ways among the wild. He has vowed to return one day when he is strong enough to defeat Malaine.

I'd like to join this game with Dazzle, a human bard charlatan.
Backstory:
Dazzle was born Jody Cooper to a poor family in a small, unnamed community situated on the disputed border between two warring nations. His mother had gone to fight in the war while his father stayed and made barrels for the local community and the kingdom. Jody's mother had long since been declared killed in action, but her body was never recovered and since then his father has lacked the energy to bestow much attention on his children. Jody spent his youth in the town's tavern, talking to travelers and gaining an unconventional education: how to manipulate a deck of cards as easily as he could manipulate his facial expressions, how to spin dice, how to palm coins, how to pull kerchiefs from ears, and so it went until the winter after his 18th name day arrived. Then the war touched their town.
Jody awoke to the smell of smoke and the heat of flames. Cries of panic could be heard outside as he rushed out of bed and ran downstairs where he saw mounted soldiers wearing the colours of the invading nation throwing torches on rooftops and cutting down peasants. Flames had already consumed most of his house and Jody flew into a panic. He ran. He couldn't see where he was running for the smoke in his eyes, but he ran far and long until he collapsed. When he regained consciousness at dawn, he kept running down the main road. In many ways he has never stopped running.
In all of his travels, Dazzle (as he has since called himself) has not thought much about what he was feeling that day. In fact, he thinks as little about his former life, his former self, as possible. He had to start by begging for food and transport, trading stories and performances whenever possible. Dazzle managed to talk his way into odd jobs in various towns and worked as a servant in a tavern for a few months before moving on. Dazzle did everything he could to forget his family, the war raging back home, to forget who he was so he took to drink, gambling, feasting, quick and easy companionship - any vice he could find. Most of the time Dazzle was able to talk himself out of trouble, but once in a while he would get a beating or lose his job, at which point he would travel somewhere else to begin again. This continued for years, Dazzle getting better at his tricks, his cheats, his lies, his charm as he moved steadily onward, eventually finding himself in Whitehill.
I'm closing up the recruitment thread now since I have six interested player and am now just waiting for character sheet. I'll send a PM out to those that are in when I get everything together.

Before Ivellios was born his mother was a noblewoman. She had set out as an adventure and met an elf Ivellios' father. They would eventually fall in love and get married. However tradgey struck and his father was killed under mysterious circumstances. Pregnant and heartbroken she made her way home. There she gave birth to Ivellios and they lived happily for awhile until she had to marry another nobleman. Her parents where in debt and had set this arrangement up without her knowledge. Ivellios' mother was a kind soul she would not see her family destroyed so she accepted under the condition Ivellios would inherit the name Claywood and he would continue on as her family's head when he came of age. When the nobleman found out about the last minute deal he was furious but with the deal signed and sealed he could do nothing. So he made the Ivellios' life hell since he could not hurt the woman who had now become his wife and later bare his children. As the years went by Ivellios' elven traits began to spring out his ears, hieght, eyes, and even his hair which was a dark brown as a child now a dirty blonde color. This further angered his step father so he sent Ivellios to join the military school. Later on and find a woman name Charlotte it was love at first sight however his step father and her family hated each other for years. So there was a constant fight between the two families. He would eventually come of age claim the name Claywood. With that he proposed to Charlotte as soon as possible and she accepted. As the ceremony was taking place a flash of light and He awoke beneath a ton of snow! Clawing his way out he found he was no longer in his home but some mountainous range coved in snow!

Saccularius has always been too smart for his own good. He was never very strong, but he was fleet of foot and had an even quicker wit. He used these abilities combined with his natural affinity for spells to take advantage of anyone he could to make a quick gold piece, but only if he thought he could get away with it. This eventually turned into breaking and entering, conning the unwary, and petty theft. He soon realized that just having something in your hand doesn't mean you own it. The person with the right documentation can steal your house right out from under you and kick you out of your home. Naturally, he began forging documents. Mostly this was just to help him fence stolen goods and launder stolen money. This quickly became boring, so he began trying more elaborate schemes. The latest involved forging the final will and testament of elderly widows. When one of his marks was suddenly murdered and had her family jewels stolen, Saccularius didn't have time to finish the documents to take over her estate. The documents didn't hold up to scrutiny, and he was charged with the old lady's murder. He was awaiting trial in a cell until he woke up in the snow.
