The old woman grumbled, while inspecting Polly's extremities. Once she was satisfied, she began piling leathers on the girl, while her helpers brought her the requested supplies. "Leave, all of you! I need room to work, and she needs rest. If you need healing, I'll take a look at you later, unless you're dying." She shook her cane, threateningly. Brod began to herd the group out of the hut. "She's a foul mannered old biddy, but she's a great healer. Your..." he paused, looking over the group, as if trying to figure something out. "Your child will be safe.
A group of people were gathered around another hut, whispering among themselves. Finally a voice called out, "Alright! Alright! I'll look into it!" A halfling man pushed his way through the crowd, and headed toward the newcomers. As he came closer, Scarlet Dawn members would note that he looked like an older version of Perrin. "Who are you, and what are you doing here? Why did you bring them here Brod?
Perrin looks at the halfling man...and then does another look. His mouth is wide open. He can't believe it. No. He rubs his eyes. No. He died in that fire. Perrin thinks before he calls out "Pa....Pa is that you?!?"
The halfling man paused, squinting his eyes at Perrin, shocked at what he was seeing. "Perrin? Perrin Cherrycheeks, is that you?" After a brief moment, he broke out running, embracing his long lost son. "I thought I'd lost you, boy." Then he quickly released Perrin and stepped back, the gruff look back on his face. "Where have you been all this time? Never mind, there's time for that. Come, all of you," he said, leading them to another structure. Inside was a table surrounded by chairs. "Come sit, make yourselves at home. We don't have much, but what we do have is yours to share." He motioned to a young boy, and the boy darted off.
The halfling man looked at Perrin, mouth open, about to say something, then paused. Turning to the others, he announced, "I'm Sam Cherrycheeks. I'm Perrin's pa." He sat, making himself comfortable, moving various documents around on the table to make room. Finally, he turned back to Perrin, remorse on his face. "Ma's gone. I lost both of you on that day. I thought that damned Lord had you killed." He shook his head, pushing away thoughts. "But, what are you all doing here? How did you come upon us?"
Perrin doesn’t know what to say at the news. He always assumed they were dead but without finding their bodies he always had a glimmer of hope. The glimmer only brightened when he saw his Pa. Now it’s conpletely dashed for his Ma. He just sits there; holding onto his Holy Symbol to Yondalla. The last physical thing attaching Perrin to the women who raised him.
Zamar walks over to Perrin and puts his hand on his shoulder, giving a brief squeeze. There are no words that will help, so he stands there just long enough to let Perrin know he is there for him. After a few moments of silence, he turns to Sam. "Mr. Cherrycheeks, thank you for your hospitality. Sheema and Brod were there for us in a time of great need. We are grateful for the shelter and will gladly contribute where we can. We are battered at the moment, but we have many diverse skills. We need to find a way home to Baldur's Gate, but before we go, what can we do to ease your struggles?"
Dapple watches the reunion play out between Perrin and his father. Seeing the touching event stirs up a host of emotions as it reminds him of his own loss, and that there will be no such happy ending for him.The flow of years has stolen his family, and the loss was profound. Anger too, at the wizard who captured him, and at himself as well, knowing that if his own curiosity hadn't pushed him to follow the man, he'd never have been in that place to be caught in the first place.
Forcing the painful emotions and memories away as best he can, Dapple approaches the halflings. "I'm glad for you Perrin, and you sir," he says. "Family and clan are all that really matters."
Lera felt uncomfortable, as if she was invading on a very private moment. Perrin desperately needed time alone with his father and his thoughts... Besides, there must be some cool stuff in here.
Already standing toward the back of the hut, Lera attempted to sneak out as stealthily as she possible could.
Shanolia merely stands back near the door - a habit she picked up in case quick flight is necessary. She doesn't say anything, but inside she feels bittersweet; happiness for Perrin, for his reunion with his father, but also sadness, for she knows that she will never experience the same reunion. Her hand idly wraps around the handle of the obsidian dagger, mind filling with newfound hatred for the council that had stolen her life.
She watches as Lera departs, and decides to follow. (17 for stealth)
Sam watched Lera and Shanolia leave the hut, worried look on his face, before turning to Zamar. "That's a kind offer, but you haven't answered my questions. I have to ensure the safety of my people."
Lera turns to walk down the more winding hallway, noticing Shanolia quick on her heels. “Why are you following me?” She asked curiously, looking around at the walls for anything exciting or cool.
"I felt out of place in there." She doesn't try to lie, knowing the girl would see right through it. "I didn't want to walk around alone... For obvious reasons..." She gestures towards her mask. "When I saw you leave, I figured we could explore together."
Perrinnis grateful to Zamar for the compassion. After a few minutes of him being silent and seeing Lera and Shanolia leave he speaks up to his answer his father’s question.
“We were on our way back from Lantan vía some flying machine that our gnome friend had. While we were above the mountains that white dragon attacked and fell us. Bron and Sheema found us and led us here.” Perrin explains and then says excitedly as if he’s been wanting to tell his Dad all this time. “Pa, I made it Baldurs Gate. After not finding you and Ma I left and made it to the city. While there I joined a new guild; the Scarlet Dawn. And I’ve made so many new friends.” He the gestures at each individual as he says there names “There’s Zamar, Singe, Woe, Koll, Dapple, Grasalfan, the blonde hair girl who left was Lera and the elf that followed was Shanolia. The little girl is Polly; she is the owner of the guilds little sister who followed us to Lantan by hiding on-board as a stowaway. And there are other friends I’ve made as well who didn’t come with us.”
Sam looked at Perrin, his expression softening. "I'm glad, Perrin. I'm glad you're doing well." Glancing around the room at the others, he looked them over a moment. "That dragon is Nydhi. She's been harassing us for a long time now, but I never thought the Gods would send her to bring you to me." He looks at Perrin again, a smile on his lips. "This might have been the blessing we've been waiting for. You're in need of help, and we find ourselves in need of help as well. Perhaps we can help one another out. You help us, we help you?" Sam leaned back in his chair, arms crossed over his chest, smug look on his face.
“Of, course I’ll help Pa.” Perrin says right away. Then he pauses for a moment before saying “I...I hope my friends will help too but, I cannot speak for them Pa.”
"It is a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Cherrycheeks," says Koll, shaking the hand of Perrin's father, knowing he'd never again have the same chance with his own father. "I'd be happy to help you with anything. By any chance, do the Winter Wolves have any relation to the Tower Wolves of Baldur's Gate?"
Dapple takes a seat when Sam asks the group to join him at the table. Truth be told, he wasn't entirely clear on where the Scarlet Dawn was headed or why, and was curious to hear what the response to Sam's questions would be. Baldur's Gate was obviously the city that the group hailed from, and he knew there were some Lords involved - leaders of some sort, he'd assumed, but without anyplace else to go, he'd merely been following along without asking for details.
He speaks up as the conversation turns to helping the locals. "Your people saved us out there. We'd surely have died in the cold if the dragon hadn't killed us first. I, at least, will do what I can to repay that debt. Please - tell us more of what sort of help you need."
Zamar grimaces. "I suspect I know where this is going, but if we can help, we will. It's kind of our thing. We help those who are worthy and piss off a bunch who aren't in the process. I think we have more enemies than allies at this point."
The old woman grumbled, while inspecting Polly's extremities. Once she was satisfied, she began piling leathers on the girl, while her helpers brought her the requested supplies. "Leave, all of you!
