"Hmmm... could it be guarding against people stumbling down from the tavern? How would they haul Floon up a ladder into a tavern unnoticed... I think we should see if there are any more of those markings further on...", says Friar Xavier.

"You can check up the ladder, but my money on the hallway with the symbol" says Renaer
Sir Darak Darkhall: Darak stands silent watch at the foot of the ladder as the party discusses their next move.
Unconvinced that they should move on, he says, "This trail must lead here for a reason. Their route could have easily avoided this ladder, if they had wanted to avoid it."
Poking the dead Beholder with his sword, he continues, "If this creature was meant simply to guard against anyone coming down here from the tavern, it would cause more problems than it would solve. The Beholder would only panic the patrons above, giving cause to come down to investigate."
Looking quite proud of himself, he concludes, "Therefore, I believe whomever operates this tavern is involved with the Xanathar Guild. Likely smuggling contraband through these tunnels. I am honor bound to investigate further."
"Believe that all you wish." Veil says. "The symbol still is not near that hatch, but on the wall. I say we move forward, even if the tavern is part of the faction, our missing boy is not up there, but likely further along down here. I am ready to move on and see if we can find him before any harm can come to him." She moves to the tunnel leading onward, glancing to the others to see who is ready to follow.
Sir Darak Darkhall: Taken aback by the party's protests, Darak says, "How do you know Floon isn't ten paces from top of this ladder at this very moment?"

Zera hasn’t known the knight long- but she knows his type. Sighing, she says I“’ll go confirm it’s a tavern and make sure Floon is not up there. If it’s a public place he’s probably not. Wish meluck! “.
She climbs the ladder and pauses at the top to listen, then if she hears nothing right on the other side, tries to open the hatch. as quietly as she can.
Sir Darak Darkhall: Stepping back to allow Zera to pass, Darak feels a bit ashamed to not be going in first himself. Realizing he's ill-suited for covert operations, he says, "Good luck and please, be careful. If you can recognize what tavern it is, that is enough. I will have a team dispatched to investigate them later."

Friar Xavier prays for guidance for Zera in her recognizance.
He then turns to console Sir Darkhall, "Your intention is pure, Sir Darkhall. You mention being honor bound - a duty. The Maimed God you serve and the Broken God I serve are also led by Torm the True - god of Duty. As such the Triad always works together. We have promised to help Master Floon. Once we have liberated him, we can come back and investigate the connection of this tavern - should it be a tavern - with the Xanathar Guild. I will walk with you brother."

You find yourself in a tavern that you recognize as the Spouting Fish a small tavern in the dock ward. None of the patrons match Volo's description of Floon
Quickly, and ensuring she’s not noticed doing it, Zera zips back down the ladder and closes the hatch.
”it’s the Spouting Fish Tavern- we’re still in the docks ward. I know it well.. well not THAT well, “(she quickly adds when catching the knight’s eye). ” Floon is not up there. Shall we continue?”
Wheeze: watches the interactions of his party, almost studying the humans. He then says "right onward it is. We can always come back and do a further look around the tavern if we find nothing ahead, and if another beholder doesn't have is for dinner."
He looks to Amotal, wondering is he will take the lead again.
"The innocent awaits, let us make haste to remove his suffering! Miss Veil do you see any more of those yellow signs down that path?"
"There's one"Renaer points out pointing at the eye symbol on the wall of the middle passage "I'd lead but I can't see in the dark very well, if the Friar would light our path then I would lead the way"
"May Ilmater's mercy illuminate our path.", prays Friar Xavier refreshing the light on the end of his staff. "I do believe Miss Veil is already leading us down the path, but happy to bring a little light to the oppressive darkness."
(OOC - I would keep refreshing the light if it should falter, unless I have reason not too)

Renaer being happy to lead takes the front and after a while of travel, you come to a point where the main sewer tunnel expands into a circular hub with a pair of arrow slits carved into its outer walls, directly across from each other. Two passages continue on to the north and south. A stone door is set into the back wall of a stone ledge to the west.
Wheeze: casts mage hand and sends it over to the door to try the handle of there is one; "Please do shout if you think this is a terrible idea, but I'm going to try that door from afar" he whispers, and titters at having whispered shout.
