“Oh that sounds like it could be our Floon. Who’s the boss? Where would they be holding him now?” ((Which group is the gruff voice with?))
”what artifact is that?” Zera asks the other
All three are part of the Zhentarim that you can see from the snake symbol on their shoulder..... roll history
"Like I'd tell you that..... and I haven't the slightest clue where there holding your friend, all I know is that the boss wanted to question him," says the gruff voice
"I don't know what it was, but we sent some men to treaty with the Xanathar guild and the buffoons killed them on account that they stole something valuable to Xanathar" answers the second voice
Friar Xavier follows along with the group, glancing about, peering down alleys, taking the Dock Ward in and keeping an eye out for any movement or indication of Zhentarim or Xanthar Guild activity or their missing Floon. As he does so, he mutters, "Interesting, Pascal, interesting... and curious. Oh Ilmater, what saturated suffering abounds here... can you smell it Pascal?"
Veil takes a final look at the prisoners, then follows the others away into the dock ward. Her tail twitches in anticipation as she feels the walls looming up to either side of her, the streets growing narrower around them.
Tall, densely packed tenements leave most of the neighborhood in shadow at ground level. Most of the streetlamps have had their glass smashed and their candles stolen, and the smells of salt air and excrement linger as you pass by rows of run-down buildings. One nearby shop stands out from the others. It has a deep purple facade, and in its window hangs a stuffed beholder. Above the door hangs a sign whose elaborate letters spell out “Old Xoblob Shop.”

Zera says “I’ve never been in this place, seen the outside only. I’m tempted to see what they sell, if they are open? just for a bit before we head to the tavern...” she gives one of her radiant smiles as she approaches the door of the shop and opens it to go inside.
Wheeze: covering his mouth and nose with a hand in a poor attempt to block the smell. "I'll join you. Let's be quick, it doesn't feel the safest round here. Any idea what a Xoblob is?"
A cloud of lavender-scented purple smoke trails out of the shop’s door as you peer inside. Every wall is painted purple, and every dusty knickknack on the shelves is dyed a deep violet. The hairless old gnome sitting cross-legged on the counter wears plum-colored robes. His cheeks are decorated with nine purple face-painted eyes.
The gnome lowers a pipe and exhales a cloud of lavender smoke before raising a hand. “Hail and well met! Come browse the shelves of the most curious curiosity shop in the world!”
Zera says with a cheery smile “what manner of things do you sell here? And are you Xoblob? I’ve always wondered if that name was the owner or that stuffed eye in the front window!”

“No relation to the eye tyrant hanging in the window!” he says" but yes my name is Xoblob, and as for things I sell, my wares are things I have picked up here and there take this for example" he then holds up what appears to be a small picture of you with a purplish tint "Yes.... This is a very special card indeed. 6 GP?"

Zera looks with amazement at the picture. "Well, that picture IS stunningly beautiful, to be sure, and I am certain one day it will be worth far more than a mere 2 gold! I regret I do not have the funds available to purchase such a priceless relic. I do, however, have, an item I could trade, I suppose,, (dramatic pause, and looks of extreme sadness) " Your most impressive shop seems like a suitable home for this artifact- and I am afaid it is the only Item I have at present that is worthy of this magnificent shop. I cannot bear to part with it for any amount of gold- to place a value on this item would be to cheapen it's worth, but I would be willing to exchange it if you have some items of equal value or splendor. With a flourish (enhanced by prestidigitation) she produces a single purple candle from her pack. "This.... this... (dramatic pause) is the most priceless candle of the legendary Zera the Incredible, a bard of such fame and beauty it is said (here whispering) the gods themselves sought to erase her memory from history, for fear that people would go mad having not witnessed her splendor in person. It is said she carried this candle with her to bring her light and hope in the darkest of times. Again, I have no gold, but I will allow you the honor of becoming the guardian of this priceless relic, as yet unlit (and who knows what powers lighting it might unveil) in exchange for some of your wares, this picture for certain, but perhaps some other items of extraordinary interest? "

If this actually works, she will get as many trinkets and items she can from him. If (as is far more likely) it fails, she will say the following "Truly, you are a purveyor of tales as much as I. An ancient trinket is only junk- worth no more than scrap value to the smith who can remake it into something else, unless there is a story to go with it, right? We can choose to believe our own stories, and sometimes, make them come true. A person perceived as junk can become a hero. I meant no offense by my tale, and will plan to return one day with something more worthy- or perhaps the candle of Zera the Incredible will have value to you then? She gives a big smile and winks. "

Wheeze: smiles at Xoblob and as he chats to Zera will wander around the shop scanning the shelves, his red waistcoat looking splendid against the purple haze.
He will be looking for any books or scrolls or magic items that would capture a wizards attention. Perception 17
And when he can he will say to Xoblob "what a mighty fine display of curiously curious items you have here, most curious. I could browse all day. Sadly we are a bit short of time at the moment, we are looking for our friend, Floon, so I cannot. Do you have anything that might interest someone in the art of divination, such as myself?"

She says “thank you, how could we get in touch with the boss, if we needed to- I mean where would we go?”
((if she can get anymore useful information from these prisoners, she will- but otherwise we will continue on to the tavern))
"The boss wouldn't want to see the likes of you," says the gruff voice
"Go find your friend..... if he's still alive" says the second
