Friar Xavier quietly peruses the shops displays. He peers out the window to the streets outside. Could the proprietor have seen anything suspicious through them? when the prorietor is free, Friar Xavier casts guidance on himself and says, "Master .... Xoblob, was it... as my companion mentioned, we are looking for a person who went missing recently. It seems that your shop is well situated to view things outside and a careful proprietor such as yourself, must take care with the turbulence between the gangs recently. Would you have perhaps seen or heard of anything which might help us discover what might have happened to our friend?" He proceeds to give a description of Floon.
Zera says with a cheery smile “what manner of things do you sell here? And are you Xoblob? I’ve always wondered if that name was the owner or that stuffed eye in the front window!”
“No relation to the eye tyrant hanging in the window!” he says" but yes my name is Xoblob, and as for things I sell, my wares are things I have picked up here and there take this for example" he then holds up what appears to be a small picture of you with a purplish tint "Yes.... This is a very special card indeed. 2 GP?"

This is a very special card indeed. 2 GP?"
Zera looks with amazement at the picture. "Well, that picture IS stunningly beautiful, to be sure, and I am certain one day it will be worth far more than a mere 2 gold! I regret I do not have the funds available to purchase such a priceless relic. I do, however, have, an item I could trade, I suppose,, (dramatic pause, and looks of extreme sadness) " Your most impressive shop seems like a suitable home for this artifact- and I am afaid it is the only Item I have at present that is worthy of this magnificent shop. I cannot bear to part with it for any amount of gold- to place a value on this item would be to cheapen it's worth, but I would be willing to exchange it if you have some items of equal value or splendor. With a flourish (enhanced by prestidigitation) she produces a single purple candle from her pack. "This.... this... (dramatic pause) is the most priceless candle of the legendary Zera the Incredible, a bard of such fame and beauty it is said (here whispering) the gods themselves sought to erase her memory from history, for fear that people would go mad having not witnessed her splendor in person. It is said she carried this candle with her to bring her light and hope in the darkest of times. Again, I have no gold, but I will allow you the honor of becoming the guardian of this priceless relic, as yet unlit (and who knows what powers lighting it might unveil) in exchange for some of your wares, this picture for certain, but perhaps some other items of extraordinary interest? "

If this actually works, she will get as many trinkets and items she can from him. If (as is far more likely) it fails, she will say the following "Truly, you are a purveyor of tales as much as I. An ancient trinket is only junk- worth no more than scrap value to the smith who can remake it into something else, unless there is a story to go with it, right? We can choose to believe our own stories, and sometimes, make them come true. A person perceived as junk can become a hero. I meant no offense by my tale, and will plan to return one day with something more worthy- or perhaps the candle of Zera the Incredible will have value to you then? She gives a big smile and winks. "
"Ooooh purple.... and what a great tale to go with it," he says as his jaw drops and his pipe clatters to the floor "Here have the card and... and this," he says handing you a small purple key

Zera says “a worthy exchange! I’ll be certain to trade here again in future! “She tucks the key and picture in her pouches, describes Floon from what the wizard said, and says”We fear the zhentarum kidnapped him- their boss wanted to question him- at least that’s what some Zhents who were recently arrested told us. We would appreciate any information you have. “
(Just role playing for the stuff- she’s not trying to get anything really of value here, just seeing if she could trade a candle for some things!).
"Floon and a well-dressed fellow of similar appearance and bearing were jumped outside my shop by rough-looking men in black leather armor. Methinks there were 5 of them but none looked familiar although one had a black-winged snake tattoo on his neck" says Xoblob
Tail switching in irritation, Veil moves to the door and back onto the street. All she saw in the shop was junk and worthless trinkets. She prowls up and down the road outside the shop, waiting for the othres to finish up inside.
"Hmmmm... it seems now we search for not one but two missing persons!", considers Friar Xavier. "Perhaps describing both the men will help us discover more at the tavern!"
Friar Xavier says, "Maybe we should head toward Candle Lane and look for clues there... this lead seems fresher than anything we could get at the Tavern"

Gloom envelops a narrow alley as dark as a dungeon — and as odorous as one, too. Nearly all the streetlamps have been smashed. The only light that pierces the darkness is a faint flickering from down the lane, like a distant candle. across the street from the candle, you see a black-winged snake painted on the door
Zera smiles and says “I’m no brilliant detective, but I’m suspicious that door may have something to do with the Zhentarim base.. shall we check it out?”
Zera gets a mischievous smile. “Sooo... how do we want to do this Sir Darak Darkhall? I’m sure you have a protocol for this sort of thing. Or we can do it my way?” She looks at the group and winks.
Friar Xavier smiles at Veil and Zera, then to Sir Darkhall he suggests: "As St. Jasper wrote: The shorter the preparation, the greater the suffering. Perhaps one of our more stealthy members might do a little reconnaissance before we charge in?"

Sir Darak Darkhall: Hesitating a moment, Darak answers, "As I've said... I'm not much for protocol. However, I am sworn to uphold the Law of Waterdeep and we do not yet possess enough evidence."
Turning his back to the group, he continues offhandedly, "I intend to stand watch here. If someone were to, say... discover some evidence, or perhaps a commotion was heard inside, well... I do rather enjoy kicking down doors." He scans the building and the rest of the area, oblivious to what the others are doing behind him.

Zera looks at the friar- ” shall we listen and then see if the door opens? Perhaps with a word of divine guidance to help our chances?” Saying some words of encouragement to the Friar she grants him inspiration (1d6), then Zera listens at the door and then will help the friar open the lock.
