(Is the Horrifying Visage frightened condition ended due to the object of his fright being no longer in line of sight?)
I meant to answer this before, but forgot. No, the frightened effect does not say anything about ending if the ghost is not visible. Makes sense for it not to end, as ghosts tend to be here and gone from one moment to the next.
ghost2 In defiance of the holy light from Larry, one of the ghosts comes out of the North wall of the chamber. It moves up to Tayret Magnus... It attempts to possess him. Possession (Recharge 6). One humanoid that the ghost can see within 5 feet of it must succeed on a DC 13 Charisma saving throw or be possessed by the ghost; the ghost then disappears, and the target is incapacitated and loses control of its body. The ghost now controls the body but doesn't deprive the target of awareness. The ghost can't be targeted by any attack, spell, or other effect, except ones that turn undead, and it retains its alignment, Intelligence, Wisdom, Charisma, and immunity to being charmed and frightened. It otherwise uses the possessed target's statistics, but doesn't gain access to the target's knowledge, class features, or proficiencies.
The possession lasts until the body drops to 0 hit points, the ghost ends it as a bonus action, or the ghost is turned or forced out by an effect like the dispel evil and good spell. When the possession ends, the ghost reappears in an unoccupied space within 5 feet of the body. The target is immune to this ghost's Possession for 24 hours after succeeding on the saving throw or after the possession ends.
Tayret Magnus, Karen, Ravocrath, Cora, and Xap are now up. Ghost2 is only visible if Tayret makes the DC13 Cha save. Otherwise they disappear again. I have them on the map while we wait for that save.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(If this is the top of round 2, can Xap use his reaction to strike ghost2 with his PAM Opportunity attack as it enters within 10’ and before it ‘enters’ Tayret?)
End of turn in round 1 Wis save vs. ghost2 frightened condition: 14
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Xap’s if/then plans:
If Tayret is possessed and he is still standing by the time we get to Xap’s turn in initiative, then he will attack Tayret (non-lethally) to beat the ghost out of him.
Assuming Ravo’s Haste on Xap but with disadvantage due to the multiple Visage fails. Also please spill over of any attacks to target the ghost (lethally) that has left Tayret. Reaction already spent for round 2.
Attack: 9 Damage: 11
Attack: 21 Damage: 14 (Thirsting Blade)
Attack: 11 Damage: 12 (Haste) (remove this attack if Tayret is not possessed as Ravocrath would not have Hasted Xap)
Bonus PAM butt Attack: 16 Damage: 8
Note any successful attack against ghost2 would add +3 damage per hit (not accounted for above) due to Hexblade’s Curse (crits on 19 and 20 might apply to above rolls). Not sure you would rule +3 damage against Tayret because he’s controlled by ghost2.
If ghost2 is already “dead” before Xap’s turn, then he will use the Help action with whomever needs it. (Without a reaction left for round 2 and no enemies in sight, and with blur already giving disadvantage to attacks against him, the dodge action seems redundant)
End of turn Wis saves to remove frightened condition (already saved against ghost2 in post #302)
Between the two players that have posted actions alone, Ghost2 has been destroyed. I will give others time to post their actions, in preperation for the other ghosts return. Everyone has 1 minute to do any prep actions they wish to do. I will wait 24 hours from now for posts, but will move on in 24 hours if all posts are not recieved by then.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Blur will expire before the ghosts return because Xap cast it as he entered the room.
Xap will position himself 15’ away from a spot on a wall he saw one of the ghosts disappear into. He will Ready his pact halberd for a flurry of attacks if it reappears in range. His head will be on a swivel looking up/down/right/left not knowing exactly where a ghost might appear. If one doesn’t enter his range, on his turn in initiative, he will use his movement to engage lethally (or non-lethally if the ghost has possessed someone).
He has previously saved from all three Visage fails.

note: Lucky for us I'm not planning on using attack rolls in this room because my spells that do that are mostly resisted or completely useless

Sure Xap can do that. Roll it up.
With Xap’s resolve restored against the approaching ghost, he lashes out as it approaches Tayret.

The attack hits, but does less damage than expected, as the ghost is resistant to the damage.
Need the Cha save vs possession, so the others can know what they can do this round...
