When Hex enters the common room the next morning, Sylyra is sitting at the bar drinking something suitable for breakfast. He gives her a slight smile, but his eyes look more curious than friendly. "You're up early," he intones. When she explains her reason, he joins her while she eats and then asks, "Mind a little company? I've already been sitting here too long."
Sylyra gives a one-shoulder shrug. "We elves don't require as much rest as other races. I'm more often up for hours before everyone else opens their eyes for the day."
OOC: Letting the RP play out here. If Hex's plan is still to go see Chaab alone and meet the rest of the party at the town gates, let me know and I'll resolve that while the conversation continues.
"Ahh, right right. Forgot about that. Must be boring being up before everyone else though. Do you just sit around and wait for people to show up or do you get stuff done?"
Hex is more than happy for Sylyra to come along with her as she goes to meet Chaab but would probably ask him to wait while she speaks to him alone. She'll alter the note to let the other two know that Sylyra has come with her.
"Depends on the day," Sylyra replies. "Sometimes I practice. Sometimes I walk the streets. Sometimes I write letters. Far too often, I just reflect on what has become of my life lately." A little bitterness creeps into his voice at the end, but he looks away, and when his gaze returns to Hex, humor warms his eyes. "Have you heard from our mutual friend lately?"
Hex eyes Sylyra curiously as he looks away but doesn't question any futher. She shakes her head at his question, with a slightly guilty smile. "No, and I don't think I will any time soon. May have exaggerated a bit when I said she was a 'friend' the first time we met. I've only met her once, when I first arrived here and she was leaving. Thought it would help get you guys to trust me easier."
Sylyra's grin widens as he leans back a little. His eyes sparkle, and he chuckles. "Why, aren't you a little minx?" He leans forward again, getting close to the tiefling. "I knew I liked you." He chuckles again. "What other secrets are you keeping from us, Hex?" he asks in good humor.
Uragum waits by the town gates for the others. He still has the outfits. When the others arrive he may bring it up, and even bring up the idea of someone putting it on as a ploy. Just not him... it's much to small for him.
Hex is briefly stunned at Sylyra's reaction before leaning back in her chair and laughing. "Well, if you want my secrets, you'll just have to get to know me better first." She quickly eats up the last of her food and dusts off of hands. "Anyways, we should probably get going if we don't want the others to wait too long for us." She leads Sylyra to a place a little bit away from where she usually meets up with Chaab, chatting to him about nothing particularly important. Once they arrived, she tells him to wait a couple minutes as she goes speaks to her associate.
Sylyra waits, appearing a little surprised and slightly put off by Hex's request that he loiter behind while she goes ahead. He considers following her. He considers boldly walking in, not even bothering to hide. Then he considers shifting into a discrete animal shape and eavesdropping on her that way. In the end, he finds all of the intrigue dreadfully dull and winds up finding a comfortable place to sit to scrutinize the early morning Phlan population as they walk by, beginning their day.
Chaab, dressed in his usual black beneath his leather armor, offers a sly grin to you. He shakes his head when you ask about the thieves, saying, "Your knowledge is our knowledge; the Zhentarim couldn't care less about a pair of book thieves. What does interest us is where you believe they have fled to. Rumor has it that there is a subterranean complex beneath the Dragonspine Mountains. We'd like you to discern the viability of a base of operations there. It would be a small favor for the Black Network since you are already going to be there."
"We know that there is something beneath those mountains, but that is the extent of our knowledge. Take note of everything you see, how vast it is, and - if it is already occupied - who resides there, and in what numbers."
OOC: I'm going to advance us a bit but we can handle any more conversation with Chaab in retrospect. Feel free to respond to him in your next post if Hex has more to say.
By late morning, the party has gathered again near the town gates. The breezy air hints at a chilly hike through the wilderness to the northwest, where the Dragonspine Mountains lay.
Hex nods and thanks Chaab for the information before joining up with Sylyra again. "I'll tell you what I found out once we join with the others."
Once they've met up with Ola and Uragum again, Hex let's them know of rumors that there is a subterranean complex beneath the Dragonspine Mountains. "Maybe that's where the thief has went. We should move quickly, they already have a day ahead of us."
"Then let's go," Ola had everything she could need with her and was ready to go. If there was a possibility to rent horses, she would suggest doing so.
OOC: To save us the exploration time, you can find a place to rent horses through any of the various factions that you belong to. It will cost 15 gp per horse, plus an additional 60 gp per horse that is not returned. It will be early afternoon when you depart Phlan.
If anybody does not want to rent a horse at that price, let me know in the next round of posts. I will try and post the start of travel tomorrow afternoon, but can always adjust inventories after the fact if someone can't post their horse-thoughts until after I advance.
(Would it be possible to have two people on one horse? If so, then Hex would skimp out on getting her own horse and buddy up with someone else instead haha.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
OOC: With gear and armor weight included, that's not very likely for extended travel. I'll move us forward, and if anybody wants to change their mind on horses, just let me know. For now, 15 gp have been removed from everyone's inventory.

After obtaining horses, the party sets out westward, using the River Stojanow as a guide for the early part of the day. With the sun high in the sky, the brigands and bandits known to exist in the wilds seem to be enjoying a day off. The flat and sparse land outside of Phlan slowly gives way to uneven ground, and as night sets in, you see the rolling hills leading to the Dragonspine Mountains ahead of you.
OOC: Is there any conversation the party would like to have before sleeping? Where do you decide to set up camp, and are you setting watches or a fire?
Hex would scout ahead for a suitable place to set up camp. Preferably somewhere hidden and off the road. She doesn't have anything in particular she wants to discuss with the group during the night but she would volunteer to take first watch. She'd vote against a fire but wouldn't insist on it if anyone wants to start one.

Sylyra agrees with the rent-a-horse idea.
Hex would also agree with renting horses.
