Ressys's ears twitch for a moment. "I had forgotten about what we were told about Old Croaker. Well, he and I can have a nice chat if we happen to meet him."
Ressys then lets out a couple croaks that mimic the ones you have been hearing "Croak! Croak!"

"It sounds like we have a plan. Let's move forward."
As Qidira returned and told them of lied awaiting them, the group started discussing how to proceed. Durnham asked about distance and mentioned the magic hand thing he used in Tulgi’s house. Brandon mentioned calling for Hulil, cautioning against it. The wizard agreed suggesting Ressys to announce their presence to the frogs and that they intended no harm. The problem is, does the frogs share our intention? Kotar hoped they did. It was the best way for them to pass without a battle.
“We have no idea about the wight of the plank, but Durnham, wouldn’t the hand be able to stretch a hope and tie it in the plank?”The goliath asks taking fifty feet of hempen string from his pack. “We could pull the wood into place from here and worse case scenario we can simply run to the other side. And avoiding the water as much as possible. Even if it’s shallow it’s never a good idea do take a dip this far north - wet clothes and cold winds make for a deadly combination.”
That much was dear knowledge for those who lived under the skies. Even the goliath, with their resistance to the harsh weather of those lands, avoided getting their garments wet. In the tribe Kotar heard histories of man who lost their feet but a moments after letting water enter their boots. A history better left untold, he thought to himself. At least in that place, where a fight could force them into a murky pool.
Durnham looks at Kotar and bites his lower lip a moment as he thinks it through before answering in a quiet whisper. “I can try... carrying the rope across isn’t a problem but have you ever tried to tie a knot one handed? I don’t know if I can do it but I can try. You’re right though, I don’t like the idea of wading into the water.”
He looks around at the group and asks“Is anyone able to climb well? Maybe they can climb the walls and make their way above the water and around the chamber? I could get the rope to them and then they could tie it to the plank.”
Did Qidira observe anything climbable while she was as the entrance of the chamber? Were the walls smooth or wet vs drive and ledge-y
Qidira turns to Ressys whispering carefully as not to interrupt while he is listening or speaking, "It's possible Hulil is ill as well, the frogs would recognize illness right?"
@Qidira: The walls are quite rough and look climbable (OOC: Athletics check for anyone attempting please).
Ressys emits a low croaking noise, and to the ears of his companions he perfectly mimics the noise that has been echoing around the cave. There is no noticeable reaction from the cave or its inhabitants however.
Ressys's ears droop a bit but when there is no obvious change in the croaking but he isn't deterred in any way. "Lets all head that way. The way I see it one of you can use your magic hand thing to pull the plank across and then we can cross, one at a time. If that fails perhaps one of the more dexterous of us can climb across and secure a rope. Let's all go take a look at what we are up against. The plank has to be fairly sturdy if dwarves are using it to cross."
Durnham nods to Ressys and gets the grappling hook from his backpack that was left in Urgon’s cabin. He hands it to Qidira and quietly asks “Can you tie this to the rope? I’ll use my magic hand to secure it to the plank.”
Brandon follows the others and eyes the rough walls of the cavern. “I fear I lack the skill to climb across this cavern and don’t like the idea of a fall into this water. I can help with the hook though, we used these to practice scaling walls back in my training days”
He bends takes a knee to help Qidira with the rope and grappling hook.

Qidira reaches for the grappling hook, holding it so that Brandon may tie the rope onto it. She then secures it to her pack and moves to the wall of the cavern, searching for hand and foot holds and starts across along the wall carefully.
acrobatics21 with advantage due to Brandon's help sorry, should be athletics with no +2 so just 20
Qidira snatches up the grappling hook and tucks it into a strap on her pack before jumping up to the wall and grabbing some tiny handholds. With incredible skill she traverses the wall like a spider, never looking for a second like slipping. Once she reaches the other side, the gnome drops to the far bank and darts over to the plank, securing the hook to it.
In the time that you have all been in the cavern you have noticed the two sets of amphibian eyes in the middle of the pond have not moved. Croaks echo around the chamber, impossible to tell if they originate from near or far.

Before Durnham can even cast his cantrip, Qidira leaps to the wall and scrambles around the wall of the room. He stares at her in silence, not quite believing what he is seeing. He gives Kotar a look and silently mouths the word “Wow!”
After Qidira reaches the other side and attaches the hook, Durnham takes a good look at those creatures in the water. 13 perception

Qidira hops down from the wall and something occurs to her about the frogs, but she is too far away to say. Then gets an idea, she pulls out her mechanical bird and holds it up to show the others then points at the frogs and back to the toy. She studies the frog's eyes for a minute to test her theory.(If what she suspects is true, she will gesture to her own eyes and then at the frog's.)
@DM
Perception11 She suspects that they are fake and that the sound is also. Wouldn't the Druid notice this though? Maybe?
“We could use an improvised hook to avoid the one-handed nod.” He answered the dwarf, honestly unsure of how difficult things could be otherwise. Amongst goliaths it’s common belief that the person who is best at a job should be the one tasked with doing it. Kotar himself was never that much of a dexterous figure and usually ended with the heavier, less precise, kind of work. He suspected that climbing the wall would be easier for him than attempting the knot. Fortunately, he didn’t have to confirm that, as Durnham pulled an actual hook and both Brandon and Qidira tied it.
Before the wizard could do the magic hand thing the rogue took the tools in her back and with help from the warlock made her way across the cave chamber. It seemed an unnecessary risk to the eyes of the Fighter, but Qidira clearly knew what she was doing. If she was part of his clan she would be called Wallclimber, or something like that. The more he thought about it the more he realized how good he was with names - not at all. Better keep calling her Qidira, he decided in resignation.
“Well, guess it’s time to pull.” Kotar answered to Durnham’s exclamation while moving to the end of the rope. “Any help can make it easier.” He said to no one in particular, strangely sure that one of his fellows would take the line with him. Hopefully it’ll be enough,he told himself facing amphibian eyes.
Hearing Kotar’s request, Durnham will grab the rope behind him. Although he wasn’t the most athletic or strong dwarf around, he wasn’t the worst either. He prepared to pull with Kotar.
As he steps up to the rope and looks towards Qidira, however, he notices the gnome hopping around and gesturing to her mechanical toy and the frog. 11 Intelligence check
He looks from the frogs in the water to Qidira. He can’t quite grasp what she is trying to suggest. He shrugs towards Qidira and examines the frog eyes again for anything unusual. 8 Investigation
Ressys grinned and his ears flopped up and down watching the skill of Qidira as she climbed across. "Nicely done. Now we just get the plank across and the rest of us can cross. One at a time, mind you. We don't want to take the chance that the plank can't support more than one of us at a time."
As Qidira starts gesturing to the toy and the frogs he wonders what she is doing. Does she want a pet frog? Does she think the frogs are fake like toy? Why would there be fake frogs in the water? That made no sense to him. We know there is a particular giant frog, Old Croaker, somewhere within. That may be him in the water. As long as he didn't bother us, or those frogs didn't bother us they weren't a concern. One step at a time the Firbolg thought to himself.
He looks across the water and shrugs his shoulder and gives her an I don't know, gesture with his arms and hands.
Qidira crouches down and give the plank a gentle but firm push onto the water, angling it for best direction and coordinating with the pull of the others of the hook keeping a look at her surroundings, especially for active frogs.
Durnham studies the creatures, able to get a better look now from the water’s edge. They are frogs as far as he can tell – big ones, maybe the size of a grown human in a crouching position. In the torchlight they look blue.
@Qidira:
You see the faintest movement from one of the frogs and a rumble when one of the croaks rings out, plus the eyes just seem too natural; you are confident that they are real.
With the hook secured on the plank, Qidira nudges it into the water and tries to guide it as far as she can before it relies on the skill of her colleagues to get it all the way across.
(Whoever is guiding the plank, please make a dexterity check – with advantage due to the assistance given)
