Ok, you two, here's the deal. I want THREE INSIGHT rolls from EACH of you. Each one over 15 will yield some useful information about the land. But that's it. What you learn from those rolls is what you learn, and that will be it for this establishment, or anywhere else. I have to make this challenging in some way.
Grishkar Darkmoor, Necromancer of Nerull the Despiser Kelvin Rabbitfoot, Diviner, con artist, always hunting for a good sale Bründir Halfshield, Valor Bard, three-time Sheercleft Drinking Competition Champion, Hometown hero
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
EDGE & SHAR
Five total pieces of knowledge will be learned this afternoon. Would have been four, but Shar rolled a nat 20. Here we go:
6, 13, 20, 66, 68
"The great god Ubtao once guided the people of Chult, be he tired of their constant warring and abandoned them. Since then, Chultans have turned to the worship of other gods, some of which were tricksters and deceivers."
"A ruined city lies up the River Tath, past Kahakla Gorge. Supposedly, no one's explored past the gorge, but that's not true. It's just that the few who made it out alive mostly keep quiet about what they found there. I have it on good authority that the ruins are guarded by a naga who is both wise and generous."
"One must purchase a charter of exploration at Fort Beluarian before undertaking any jungle expedition. The Flaming Fist punishes explorers who don't have the required paperwork!"
"A dragon turtle named Aremag lives in the Bay of Chult. If you wish to set said from Port Nyanzaru, you'll need treasure to appease the greedy monster. How much treasure, I can't say. Aremag will tell you what it wants, and you'd best give it what it demands."
"Bird folk inhabit a monastery that hangs on the side of a plateau many miles up the Olung River, past the Laughing Gorge. The bird folk are holding the last royal heir of Chult as their prisoner."
During Yasei's recitation, Bree smiles dreamily and adds what she thinks are appropriate (illusory) musical sounds. When Mal trips over himself she tries to make it look like a planned pratfall, but there's not much that can save the act after that. Bree gathers up Clayton's hat and puts the money she had been holding into it, handing the whole bundle back to him. "Here you go, Bacon. That's 17 gold from our acts, to go with the 13 you have left, makes 30 gold. Let's go see what that buys!"
She heads with the rest to the shopping district, to price out supplies, and maybe talk to a few locals about guides and what sort of costs are involved with that. She is again curious and a little flirty with people, poking her head into things and smiling disarmingly.

ey/em/eirs, or they/them works, too (just not he). Role-playing since that keep on those borderlands. I love it so.
No one knows how the Red Bazaar got its name. One story is that the label comes from the huge slabs of dinosaur meat sold here and the resulting buckets of blood that stain the rain-washed gutters, and that's probably a good enough explanation as any.
Here, you can buy locally produced meat, veggies, fruit, tea, light tropical clothing, insect repellent, rain catchers, and other typical household goods.
Looking at the prices, you could get all the food you could each carry, insect repellant for each of you, along with a rain catcher, for about 7gp total - or 10gp for the whole party.
“What in the world is a ‘rain catcher?’” Clayton mutters as he looks over the selection. Clayton has now put his hat back on.
A Chultan "Rain Catcher" is a handmade sturdy palm leaf-like "tool" that, when it rains - which it does a lot in Chult - catches the water so you can drink it. Ground water is NOT safe to drink in this land. Parasites.
Mal, an enormous Chultan guard standing at attention with folded arms catches you subtlety looking around with an ulterior motive, and slowly, without blinking, nods in a way that begs you to reconsider whatever you're considering.
"My, that's a very large gentleman," Bree exclaims as she guides Mal away. "Maybe the bazaar isn't the place to 'lighten' the locals' loads? This is probably where they get most of their homegrown riffraff." She smiles winningly at the large man. "Besides, Bacon has stuff for us to carry!"

BREE, CLAYTON, MAL, YASEI
The Red Bazaar is choked with people and stands.

OOC > What are the mechanics of haggling? Is 7 gp the haggled price? Can we go lower (or higher?) with Persuasion?

OOC: If so, they’re in trouble. Clayton is a charmer.

As they walk around Mal is going to keep an eye out for any small trinkets. Stuff that easy to grab without being seen and won't really be missed.

Clayton wrinkles his nose, looks up at the seller, then back down. “Alright, fair price.” Clayton shakes the sellers hand and hands him 7 gold.

Mal winks at the guard and does a little wave.
OOC: Was Mal being obvious about stealing something???

Gosh, that Chultan guard thinks so. Better keep an eye on him. Cuz he's keepin an eye on you's.
But yeah. There's plenty of little knick knacks for sale. Lots of tropical looking souvenirs, and such.
“That’s right I do. Here, put those hands to use.” Clayton says as he drops the supplies into Mal’s arms.

"You mean for me to carry, Bree."
When Clayton drops the load in his arms Mal looks up a Bree, one eyebrow raised.
"See."
