"Just make sure you hold the lance until Celesta and Kellen try their sleep spells" Tellior says to Ember. "We don't want to harm them if we don't have to. But I'll be ready also if we have to fight."

He checks on Celesta,  Keller, and Aspen. "Ready then?"

Kellen pulls out his shortbow and readies some arrows before nodding back to Tellior “Ready, but be alert everyone, these birds are aggressive and will swarm together to bring down larger prey.  I wonder why they are in Hedgegrove?  Could someone have brought them here on purpose?  Anyway, let's go!"

“Ready-  so my sleep will only last a minute- we need to bag any we can in that time… here, everyone take some bags.   Ready your weapons to attack the stragglers.  

 If a group of the birds are gathered together, Celesta will use sleep on them, from maximum range (90’ away).  If there is not a group, she wants to put something out to gather them- she creates a silent image of an injured young deer 60’ away to lure a group in.

Ember waits standing next to celesta sword sheathed and shield set in a stance meant to deflect.

(Dodge action and will use protection fighting style if someone attacks celesta. So disadvantage attacking me and first shot on celesta)

Having readied yourselves, you quickly file down the passage and out to the edge of the berry field. Celesta swiftly identifies the best place to cast Sleep, in the middle of a group of six bright red hawks that are greedily snacking on berries straight ahead of you. Four of them thump upon the ground, unconscious. The two others take to the air.

As you take in the full scene, you see three more blood hawks in the southeast corner. The field itself is about 80 by 60 feet with five long rows of berry bushes that rise about six feet high. The whole field is surrounded by the same tall hedges you’ve seen throughout the city.

(Tellior Initiative: 22)

(Tellior is up first. Then, the hawks followed by Ember, Kellen, and Celesta.)

Tellior makes a motion with his hands and calls out the words to cast Ray of Frost targeting Hawk 1. (Attack: 7, Damage: 7 cold) 

Tellior reaches out and a blue-white beam streaks from his hand toward one of the hawks, but it dodges the attack. With shrieks filling the air, the five conscious hawks swarm your party. You quickly see the advantage they gain by surrounding you all as a flock.

One attacks Celesta: 21 Damage: 5 (straight roll due to their advantage and Ember’s protection canceling each other out)

Two attack Ember, Attack 1: 8 Damage: 6 and Attack 2: 12 Damage: 4 (straight rolls with their advantage and Ember’s dodge action canceling each other)

Two attack Kellen, Attack 1: 21 Damage: 6 and Attack 2: 22 Damage: 5 (with advantage due to Pack Tactics)

Despite Ember’s help, the first hawk cuts into Celesta’s shoulder. However, Ember is able to dodge both hawk’s that are attacking him. The two hawks attacking Kellen slash at his arm and head, causing him to bleed profusely.

When the first person next to ember is attacked he is going to use protection fighting style again. 

Ember slashes the hawk south of him (#8) and wounds it badly, but it is still flying about.

“Splendid suggestion, Ember.  I don’t know why I did not think of that before!”  Kellen shouts back, blinking the blood out of his eyes from the deep cuts in his scalp.  Mirroring some of the movements and incantations he watched Celesta just complete, he casts sleep at the bloodhawks surrounding the party.  (affecting 28  hitpoints)

Then, using his cunning action, he attempts to hide in the hedges to his rear. Stealth: 6

"Probably because you havent been in many fights. Tell me if you need out of the fight i have a protection spell but if you attack it cancels it"

Celesta squints through the blood in her eyes and uses another sleep spell (this time first level) aiming at remaining hawks.  30 hit points effected.

she calls out  “Do not attack any that are asleep!   Gently gather them in to the sacks and secure them tightly! Maybe we should also put them into a box or crate!.  They are fierce!” 

(ooc - sorry another sleep is kinda boring, but RP wise she doesn’t want to hurt the hawks, just capture them and relocate them) 

(HA. Ember wasnt planning on hutrting them either, hence dodge not jvelin, and then they hurt you and kellen)

(Relocate? Lets sell them. Pets, hunting birds, idk but they are somewhat rare and dangerous)

A circle of magic bursts around you and the blood hawks, and all but one of them falls asleep due to Kellen’s incantation. Celesta immediately recasts the Sleep spell--presumably aiming north of you all so none of your party is affected--and the final hawk (#1) drops.

“Well, that was easier than I feared it would be,” says Aspen. He steps past Celesta and gently bags the hawk Celesta had just enchanted. “I still don’t know what we’re going to do with them,” he adds as he glances around the berry field: Perception check: 5
