Seeing the driver distracted and the others beginning to act Tortimer lets out a hiss of pleasure as his skin and shell slowy turn brown, he legs and arms begin to shift and mold into a single form. The manacles drop to the floor of the carriage as the now huge snake begins to slither out between the edges of the cage and towards the nearest guard.
"Hisssss" Tortimer hiss and he begins the hunt. "This hunt shall provide excellent stories for the young ones." He thinks fondly as he slithers.
Seeing the driver distracted, Satsuma tries to quickly finish the job with the manacles, hoping she has enough time before the driver turns back to her and puts a bolt into her.
Satsuma makes three more unarmed strikes against the manacles with her knee:
Sera: The mind sliver hits its mark and you watch as the driver grabs at his head, pounding to get the pain out. As you try to shove him in his weakened state with your mind, he's able to resist and keep his feet firmly on the carriage, though not for long–a creature leaps from one side of the road to the other, grabbing the elf in its maw, as it does.
Myles:It takes a bit of effort trying each and every key, but after about five, you feel a satisfying click when you turn it and your bonds open, the shackles clattering onto the floor by your feet.
Tortimer:As a huge creature, I'll need you to make a generic strength check for me to see if you're able to push the bars apart to get out. Your body morphs as you're freed from the manacles and suddenly you're stretched and wound around everyone's lap as you prepare to break free of the cage.
Satsuma:Three strikes more and the manacles split, leaving your wrists weighted, but free.
There's an uproar from in front and behind your carriage as creatures continue to attack from the tree line. You see flare ups from spells as the elves defend themselves and see in the light that the carriage in front of you has been flipped onto its side, the unfortunate souls whose seats were on the far side now standing with their hands above their heads, because of the manacles chained to the floor.
It quickly falls silent besides a few lone wails. And you can now see the creatures that attacked the caravan–or, rather, you can catch glimpses of them. They stalk like panthers from the mushrooms with horrible tentacles waving just above them. But every time you try and focus on them, it's like their form moves just to the side.
Noticing the cries, one of them attacks the caravan, trying to reach in to take someone as a prize, but it can't quite fit its paw in and its not quite dexterous enough to reach in with its tentacles. You can count three of them who try this, while at least four others wait, watching. Eventually, without a meal, the creatures slink back into the forest.
From the overturned carriage, you hear some muttering and see the glow of hot metal. The cage bars begin to split and unfurl and a gnome leads its passengers out. He runs back to your carriage.
"Hello! Are you all right here? Well, apart from the near enslavement and those horrible cats?"
Myles watches as the other passengers were freed and their supposed savior comes up to his carriage. Huh, cats. Some cats those were, he thinks. Seeing as the gnome was not yet another threat, he relaxes just a bit.
"We're..." Myles looks around at the large tortoise-turned-snake pushing against the bars and the woman's busted manacles, "Fine." He proceeds by twirling the key ring once and quickly turning to the other captives to free them as well.
Satsuma adds, waving at her surroundings with an iron-clad wrist, "We are fine except for the bars around this wagon. Can you do the same trick again, friend gnome?"
"Yes! Please get me out of here! While you get rid of these bars this guy with the keys will help get rid of the manacles. I'm not waiting around for those beasts to come back"
The gnome recoils at the his, surprised to see a giant snake, but nods vigorously and holds out his hands over the bars in the back of the carriage. You see them slowly begin to glow and give off heat, before bending backwards enough for everyone to be able to duck and hop off onto the ground.
"Hopeful the cats stay gone–wouldn't much like to see them again somewhere they could reach me.' He shudders at the thought and then looks you all over, snake included and then says, "Listen, you all seem quite capable–more capable than anyone who was in my carriage. I was sat mostly with human children and, while I do take offense to being gathered with them for size, I am worried about how they'll fare here...would you all mind very much forging on ahead to see if you could find help? Or somewhere to hide, or better yet a way out of this godsforsaken hole?" He notices some sniffing and wailing coming from the carriage behind yours and looks past you all towards it, adding, "I don't suppose there would be much help at the end of this road, where the Drow were taking us–they'd just as soon feed us to spiders. Or these." He motions to the rent corpse of the giant lizard, collapsed nearby. "But maybe along the road, yes? I have to believe there's a little light down here."
Again, the gentle sound of lapping water fills the air, just barely, from the direction the road continues.
Tortimer moves towards the pack with the groups belongings. As he moves he shifts back.
”That seems a good plan. See if anyone is injured and I can heal some.” He says as he opens the pack and looks to see what’s inside. “Also gather weapons from the fallen. You might need to defend yourselves while we scout.”
(OOC: "a little light down here." Title: Falselight. Hmmm)
"Not much we can do but have a look around anyway," Myles murmurs. He unlocks the manacles of the other captives, along with the panicked woman. He turns to the other woman with the orange mask and nods towards her wrists, holding up the keys. "Need those off?"
"They are rather cumbersome," the woman in the orange mask remarks. "OH!", she says, suddenly heading for the sack of items. She begins rifling through it, looking for something.
At last she pulls a sheathed shortsword of unusual make from the bag. She inspects the sheath, handle and handguard, then draws the blade. Satisfied that no harm has come to it, she returns the blade to its sheath. "I've missed you, Imogiri!", she says with visible relief, seemingly speaking to the sword.
Tortimer gatherers his things and begins humming a tune.
“Well, if we are going to be traveling together for the moment then we should introduce ourselves. You can call me Tortimer. I am a Druid of the wilds.” He says this while looking at each person of the group and smiling.
Sera is flustered but glad to finally be free of the restraints. Quickly she rushes over to the tortle with the sack and grabs her belongings.
While still thrown off balance Sera attempts to calming say, "Thank you for retrieving our belongings. I am Sera and I am a Wizard who has studied extensively in the School of Divination."
Then she turns to the masked...man and states, "And also thank you for unlocking these restraints."
She turns away from the group as she spends time to properly stow away her equipment.
The gnomish man smiles and dips towards Tortimer, saying, "Nice to meet you. I'm planning on staying here with the others–maybe make some makeshift shelter for the time being–but in case do come along anyone who might know me, world as small as it is, I am Merser Pekkamin." He nods to the rest of you in greeting as well.
"I'm going to go look at that last carriage, but I'd think the best course here would be to have you all continue down the road and see what you come across, if anything. Though, hopefully no more of those cats, am I right?"His cheeks grow visibly rosy, even in the low light, as he laughs at his own joke.
"No problem." He nods to Sera, then hands the orange-masked swordswoman the keys for her to unlock the manacles, before starting to look for his own items in the bag. Once organized, he nodded to the rest of the group. "I'm Myles," he says shortly. "I kill people for a living." "Good to meet you as well."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
After Sera put all her equipment in their rightful place, she goes back over to the sack that was holding all of their belongings earlier and inspects it all the time wondering, "Wow, this sack held a lot. I wonder if it has special properties or is simply a giant sack"
Investigation/Arcana Check: 25(OOC: Could this be a bag of holding?)
While she investigates this sack, as quietly as she could she pulls out her crystal she casts Detect Thoughts. Afterwards she yells loudly, "So again. Who knows what's going on here and how we got chained up?"
With this she is hoping she will direct everybody's surface thoughts to the situation at hand to find out:
More about the current situation
If there are any more of their captors in close proximity (30ft) whether they are hidden in or out of plain sight
Who she can trust
(OOC: I'll be trying to catch glimpses of everyone's thoughts so I won't be focusing on any one person nor getting any deep thoughts. If anybody wants to tell me what they're thinking I'd love to know!!!)
