"The Xanathar and Zhents are both scumbags. Zhents less so but still scummy. The Xanathar is a criminal organization and the Zhents are mercenaries." Aran sums up.
Was Caix able to pilfer their pouches while tying them up?
Caix retrieves her rope as they untie the thugs, but stays back as the interviews happen, then stops by the bar.
"Thank you for your help Bonnie. Didn't mean to order you about like that. I've never seen a thing! Has that ever happened before? Durnan didn't seem much surprised?"
I would assume she succeeded since they were asleep and tied up, yes.
Bonnie smiles at Caix. "Maybe every other tenday. It's not always a troll, of course, usually something a bit less intimidating. Normally Durnan springs into action a little faster and nobody gets hurt, I guess he's getting slower in his old age; shame about the one that got eaten, the Watch won't like it."
"We were much closer, fortunately it went ok. Those are fierce looking beasts. Do they always regenerate like that? And The Watch?" She asks excusing any perceived slowness on Durnan's part and interested in knowing more.
Caix would know that the City Watch is the organization that acts kind of like Waterdeep's police force.
"When you don't burn them, yeah," Bonnie answers. There are calls from patrons for refills and Bonnie apologizes for running then rushes off to handle that.
As Bonnie heads off, a man in a floppy hat with a magnificently groomed mustache approaches your table, clapping. "Bravo, bravo! Well done with the troll, I say! You be adventurers, right? I could use your help. Might I take a seat and present my case?"
Olaerys says "Sure! Pull up a chair. You look familiar to me. I've seen you around here, larger than life. You're that guy, that guy...." Olaerys pauses, like he's trying pull a name...

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
The figure who approached you pulls up a chair and sits. He strokes his mustache, adjusts his floppy hat, and tightens his scarf, before introducing himself: “Volothamp Geddarm, chronicler, wizard, and celebrity, at your service."
Seeing the figure approach the table, Caix returns to it, slipping into a chair. Feeling like she's about to be sold something. She gives Volo her attention. Thinking the name should be familiar but can't place it.
"Yeah, I've heard of you!" Aran claims with a beaming smile. Then he elbows the person next to him. Uttering under his breath while still wearing that smile. "Who's Volothump Geddamn? I swear that's a curse word somewhere."
"Volo! Durnan has mentioned you!" (He says that you never stop talking!) Olaerys stops and points to the large stein on one of the shelves with a "V" on it. "Is that yours? Have Durnan fill it up with his finest and please do present your case. This day just keeps getting stranger. What's on your mind?"

Volo clears his throat and begins: "I trust you’ve noted the violence in our fair city these past tendays. I haven’t seen so much blood since my last visit to Baldur’s Gate! But now I fear I have misplaced a friend amid this odious malevolence."
He continues after a pause: "My friend’s name is Floon Blagmaar. He’s got more beauty than brains, and I worry he took a bad way home a couple nights ago and was kidnapped — or worse. If you agree to track him down with all due haste, I can offer you ten dragons apiece now, and I can give you each ten times that when you find Floon. May I prevail upon you in my hour of need?"
(Note: Waterdeep gold coins are called 'dragons' because of the dragon figure featured on their reverse side.)
As an aspiring scholar, might Zimm be familiar with some of Volo’s work? History 16
”You make a compelling offer. Can you provide any additional information about your friend? What he looks like? His known associates - other than yourself, of course. Your fears initially jump to a possible kidnapping... is he someone that warrants kidnapping? Would he be targeted for some reason? Any additional information you can provide will only increase the chances of our success,” he looks at the others around the table, “Assuming we are interested in the job?”
Zimm is presently unemployed, on the outs with multiple mages in town, and seriously lacking prospects. His body language suggests he is most interested in taking this job.

Olaerys is similarly interested, primarily by curiosity and prestige, but the coin would be nice as well. He also wishes fight the dark forces that seem to be tearing the city apart, so all of this sits well with him. "I would be interested to hear more as well. You can't just expect us to say yes without knowing more of what we are getting into. Where was he seen last? Tell us more about Floon and what his habits are. Is he a gambler? Does he have any vices, is he rich, and why would someone kidnap him? As my friend Zimm here said, the more we know, the better our chances are."

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Caix smiles at the offer, "I agree, we do need to hear more, but I am certainly in." Keeping it brief as the others have already voices her general interests. She watches him carefully as he speaks, noting expression and body language to determine if he is fully truthful in what he knows. insight10
"Well, can't very well let you all find someone without the resident tracker. If you can take me to where he was last seen I might be able to track him. But I second these questions. I understand that we may be overwhelming you but we all just want to undistund what needs to be done." Creach says, clearly getting antsy now at the prospect of a hunt. And trying to contain a snicker at Aran's comment, since he was the one sitting next to him.

”I may be persuaded to help but I am not much for this sort of adventure or hunt. 10 dragons to start and 100 each upon completion... I don’t know, this sounds like it may be a risky venture. We may have already angered this guild. Perhaps we can negotiate on the payment as we may need to purchase more supplies.”16 Persuasion
"We probably angered the Xannies, the Zhents -and- the law with how quick we were to turn a fist fight into something lethal. No names will be named." And Aran names no names. But his eyes are on Creach and Olaerys both the entire time.
"Ok, first of all, I didn't mean to escelate that. In hindsight, aiming swords at two people that are already fighting is not the best way to de-escmate the sitation. Second, who cares? Why would I care about a group that is fundamentally wrong having me on it's bad list? I certainly don't. Will they make life harder for me? Yes. Will they try to kill me? Most likely. Is that any more dangerous or any worse than day-to-day in the forest? Absolutely not." Creach says at Aran, knowing full well that he was being implied.

"We charge 500 gold per minute."
Says Aran, straight faced. He lets that linger in the air for a moment, before slapping his knee and chuckling.
