Nevaeh grins. "To think I would be letting thee stand alone 'gainst a dangerous foe... Thou hast another thing coming. This Lost Light will be at your side!" They whisper as they stand and follow Kairynna. She places a hand on the paladin's shoulder and imbues her with the astral energy of possibility. "I am thinking the stars are in our favor this night."
(Casting guidance on Kairynna - + 1d4 to an ability check made in the next minute!)
Varis alerts the group to the gnoll’s presence. “Tayvello, it appears your traps have worked, you have caught one over there” he points in the general direction. “It did not appear to answer your challenge Kairynna, but it definitely knows we are here. If you wish to communicate with it, perhaps we should approach it before any others arrive. Now, let’s see what is causing this smoke.” He reaches out to his familiar and directs the owl to fly to the smoke in the North East, his eyes rolling back in his head as he views the landscape through the eyes of the owl.
Seeing the gnoll, Kairynna walks over. Her hand glows with divine power as she kneels down before the creature. "I do not wish to harm you, however you cannot continue to attack these people. Perhaps an arraignment can be met so that my friends here don't have to kill you and we can all walk away peacefully."
Varis - As your owl flies about 2 miles North East it sees the smoke drawing closer. As it swoops over some trees it sees the road (that at one point could lead to Aoswell) that has a fire in its center. The fire is on a cart that has clearly be tipped over and its contents strewn across the ground. Among the debris on the ground is what appears to be a humanoid body. There are splatters of a dark liquid surrounding it but no moving creatures. To discern more details you would need to inspect closer.
Kairynna - As you approach you see the creature look at you with hunger. You can see it is clearly very gaunt and seems to have been injured badly prior to stepping in the beartrap (which you can see is still on its foot). It has burns in its fur and across its face. It begins shouting at you in a language you are unfamiliar with.
"Um.... does anyone speak this language or have a way to understand them?" She calmly begins to hum a soft tune and tries to use her charisma and general people skills to calm the gnoll down, despite not knowing it's language.
"I am 'fraid I do not know if I can be communicating... Look at the poor thing, it is injured and thin as a reed on a riverbank,"Nevaeh says, stepping closer to the creature slowly to inspect its wounds and potentially help it, if it proves to be non-hostile.
Rocky instantly goes into panic mode and starts looking everywhere to see if there is any other movement around the area.

He has the feeling the one in the trap is ether a scout or a trap. With some type of possible enemy out in plain sight it would make sense in his mind that using a hurt member, to draw out enemies to spring a trap or, to draw them away from your target so you have less threats to deal with. The group is facing an enemy that thinks like a hunting pack. Get your enemy to focus on one thing, in order to sneak around and attack from it's blindside.
Morkraw wanted to yell for the ones near the trapped creature to ether kill it, or knock it unconscious and secure it muzzled so they can deal with it after tonight. But, doing that would give his position away, and he is not about to give his only possible advantage away. At this point, whatever plan this group has, it's going out the window, in a manner of speaking. It's a game of cat and mouse now, and the one with the greater patience and diligent watch will win this battle.
Varis comes back to his senses and shares what he has seen with the party. “The smoke is coming from a burning cart along the road. I can see one body, motionless on the road. There is no sign of Gnolls or other creatures. We will need to go to the cart to learn more.”He pauses “It could be a trap, to lure us away from the fields.” Varis waits to see what the others will do and to see how the trapped gnoll responds.

Thoradin strode forward, trying to exude confidence and power, though feeling a bit foolish as the closer he got the further up he had to tilt his head. He briefly considered using a cantrip to amplify his words but decided against it.
The creatures words meant nothing to him, but that did not mean it did not understand Common. "This field, and this town, is now under our protection. You will stop your cowardly attacks. Go back to your leader and tell him this: be useful and prosper, or be a threat and perish." Even if it could not understand, his tone and body language would hopefully make his message clear.
Rocky - You don't any rustling not caused by the wind in the brush that remains in the area.
Everyone communicating with the gnoll - As more and more of you approach its eyes start to dart around looking for a way out. It, hearing what you said, begins stammering out very broken common (seeming to take the words you have said and use them as best as it knows how to). It speaks in a gravelly and harsh voice (with some words that end in vowels ending instead with a sort of bark). "Not with leader. He is wrong. Help if you help kill him. Know speech of gnoll-lord?" The gnoll seems to be waiting nervously after his statement for a reaction (and is very cautious about any hostile moves you might make).

Seeing the others seem to be having success with the gnoll Braci says, "It seems you all have this under control, I am glad he will speak with you." Braci then turns to Varis. "Someone might be hurt I will go to the cart and investigate. You are right however, it is very possibly a trap we need to be careful" He will wait to see if anyone else is going to join him before slowly approaching the cart, alert to any potential danger and looking for any sign of life.

Hearing Varis's full report Tayvello gives a small chuckle as he draws both his swords, "Guess it is finally time to make our gold then."
As the others move forward towards the gnoll Tayvello stays behind watching those that go while also trying to keep an eye out for any other movement coming from any of the other directions.
Braci - The cart is 2 miles away. It takes you a few minutes to get there (and any one can go with if you want, just make a stealth check as well). Braci gets to the cart undetected, the fire is starting to run out of wood to burn so it is shrinking but you see that there are various boxes strewn across the ground. All of them have been broken open and their contents taken. Between these boxes in a body. It is bloodied and charred (and clearly not alive) but you can't discern any other traits of the body (like race).
Kairynna reaches out to the gnoll, and her glowing hand releases energy into him. (Lay on hands for 10hp). "I can help stop him from attacking this town," she says in a soft voice to the gnoll. She motions that she will stop the gnoll leader.
Braci sadden by the loss of life looks at the carnage before him. What a waste...he thinks to himself. Looking at the cart and boxes and tries to learn what was taken and if there are any clues to where the culprits might have run off to. After he learns all he can he will quietly head back to the others.

Braci - The boxes seem to have had varying contents but have all been emptied. Some had fabrics or other more fine goods that have been shredded or destroyed (boxes that had more practical items have been emptied). There are some tracks that head East on the road.
Kairynna - He tries to avoid your touch but once you do touch him he calms as he is healed. The gnoll nods, then points to its leg in a bear trap. It repeats: "Know speech of gnoll-lord?"
Rocky sighs deeply before heading over to Braci, shaking his head at what is going on. " Ether we have a scout, or a pet. Ye find anythin on your brief jaunt? "
Looking around, one group waiting for a possible ambush, the others toying around with communication issues. At this point Rocky is ready to go on the offensive. The group needs someone to scout out to find, or at least discover where these gnolls are. Not really wanting to be the one to do the job, but not wanting to just sit and wait, now seems like a good time to become impatient.
Rocky thinks to himself: " Maybe, if we can at least find out if they are on their way, we can better ready ourselves."
Arriving back to camp Braci is relieved to see he didn't miss anything. He looks over towards Rocky and shakes his head. "No survivors, it appears that the cart was attacked and looted. There is one body but it is burnt beyond recognition. Only thing I could tell was they seemed to head east along the road after they took whatever they wanted." He lowers his head looks at the group trying to communicate with the beast. "Does not appear they are making any progress with their new friend there. Perhaps there is someone in town that speaks the creature's tongue?"
Braci starts to pace the field a bit deep and thought, waving Rocky to join him he says to no one in particular. "I wonder if our presence here has scared off the attack and they decided to settle for the cart or go somewhere else. Perhaps we stand tall a bit longer but I would not want to lose the trail to the east by waiting too long."
