Depending on your initiative you will have to act. 

I surmised that you are moving toward the noise that Zanna has picked up. In the rear Shaylin follows, her ears open for any and all hints if trouble. 

The corridor is straight and like the level above you very well made. The etching you saw above have disappeared though and this part seems to have seen more use over the years. 

You follow the snarls and now every one of you can hear them. 

The tunnel opens into a large room were a hound the size of a small horse, dripping hot metal from several wounds is being harassed by ten giants caterpillars. They have it surrounded.

On the east side, the chewed body of a male Kobold lies on the floor. 

(OOC: if you are attacking roll attack and damage. I 'll assume you attack the closest one unless otherwise stated.)

Smudge throws out a taloned hand and utters a few guttural syllables, a long shard of ice forming in the air, which he lets fly at the nearest caterpillar

Well, there is our totem. Wounded and under siege. Her nose wrinkled at the giant caterpillars. Ugh, slimy creatures!  Sparks of orange light shimmered at her fingertips, before growing into a sizeable glowing fire bolt and launched it towards a caterpillar adjacent to the Hound. (no. 8)

Zanna's bolts of fire streaks toward one of the caterpillars barely hurting it but attracting its attention. It starts to slither toward them. 

OCC: Zanna being the only one visible (the others are stealthier) will be attracting the creature's attention. Still, they move very slowly. 

Smudge soft chanting ends and a long ice blade darts at the nearest caterpillar. It pierces it an  explodes showering the monsters near with ice shards. 

The recoils from the cold and gives a yelp of unease.

(OOC: creature 1 and 2 are dead.)

Sage grips her Greataxe, as a bonus action begins to rage and rushes forward to caterpillar 9, she swings and goes to slice through the creature

Sage uses the confusion the spellcasters have brought down on the insects to rush toward the one fearing on the dead Kobold. Great axe swinging two halves of the same creature are sent flying in opposite direction.

(OOC: perception check please for Sage unless Rage doesn't allow her to.)

Perception: 18

Sage, in the cave east of you you catch a glimpse of a figure resembling a walking scarecrow. It seems to be hiding in the shadows. It is in 40 feet front of you in the dark. 

Thasa moves into the room hugging the wall and moving to the corner (A6), with his shortbow he takes aim at the slightly wounded caterpillar (8) and lets fly.

Thasa's arrow just seems to appear in the insect's flesh and you can hear the steel blade scrapping the stone underneath. The creature moves still but barely and with no purpose. 

OOC: Perception check since you have a line of sight to the east.

Thasa, except a bad feeling and knowing the cave in front of you is not empty you are too distracted by the fight. 

Shaylin will walk to the bottom of the stairs and fire a bolt at bug number 3

Everything seems to be happening at once and the creatures, insects and Copperhound, are completely surprised.  One caterpillar ( 8 ) slithers toward Zanna but will not be on her for another round. The others are still intent on hurting the hound but just manage to graze it. 

The Hound swipes his head and bites down on one of the giant insects behind him. 18 Dam 9 almost killing it.

Caterpillars 1, 2 and 9 are dead 3, 5, 8 are wounded. 

The gnome had hoped that her spell would have gotten that slimy slithering monster good, but magic was a fickle creature in itself. Thankfully, they all managed to make a dent in them. Orange light shone through her finger tips. She prayed another fire bolt would do the trick and get the wounded caterpillar on her tail down.
