Jax kills his guard with the first attack! The second would not hit anyway, so not applying it to the other guard. The barbarian's words do seem to shake the remaining guard (or maybe that's his extremely violent method of interrogation), whose eyes go wide and nervous.

“…now that the outcome is clear it would be wise of you to lay down your weapon and tell us why you sought to ambush us in such a foolish manner… if your lives matter to you then tell us why you wish to interfere with messengers of the Blood of Vol…” Pieste Mor says in his most persuasive manner.
Persuasion: 23 If the dragon still gets an action, he’ll hold a Fire Bolt that he’ll release if the guard tries to attack or flee…
Seeing Case nearly get thwacked by the guard sends stitch into a fury. Sneaking up behind the guard he leaps onto his back and tries to stab him in the shoulder of his sword arm.

As the warriors 2nd attack comes swinging at Case....a small rock on the ground gets under the foot of the attacker, and his foot rolls ever so slightly sending the blow slightly higher. Case raises a magical shield sending the blow glancing just off target. (Lucky and Shield)
He swings his mace at the man without further comment. He doesn't even bother with booming blade. Attack: 23 Damage: 7

Not trying to go fully through, just to poke enough snout to look down the passage…)

Drego stands over the body of the guard who struck Stitch first in the ambush and coldly fires a single bolt through its eye before walking over to the next closest felled foe and doing the same.
His anger at the betrayal - and his own failure to detect it - could be felt coming off him in waves, boiling out into the tiny kill box now rank with the iron scent of blood and the stench of fear.
As he fires the bolt into the second guard, the ranger looks up to search the room for Stitch and sees the tiny, battered goblin bleeding from multiple wounds. Cursing, the ranger moves across the room, dropping to his knees and opening his arms 'Those bastards, look what they did to you, c'mere buddy, c'mere let me see what I can do'
Jax looks for the moment after the guard falls like he wants to smash through the door to look for more people to stab. But he catches a glance at PM peeking under the door and instead he steps heavily forward and seems, somehow, to gain control of himself. He catches his breath and then looks around the room, helping Case search the bodies. “That was bad. Are these people actually guards here? If so, they are either very bad at their jobs or the whole place is going to come down on us. PM, anyone coming? And is there anything useful in here?”
You hear footsteps coming down the hall outside. Not mailed footsteps like from someone in armor, but just the quiet scuff of cloth shoes.
Case:
Looking at the bodies, you find a few things. One, they're all also wearing the same ring that the person who ambushed you yesterday was. Two, they also have an Elvish word tattooed on the back of their necks in emerald-green ink that translated to "shadow". And three, their armor is ill-fitting and was already scuffed with a few dried bloodstains--you don't think this originally belonged to them, and you don't think the original owners are still around...
Case points out everything he has found about the men to the rest of the group with clinical coldness. He then flays the back of one of their necks to get a sample of the tattoo, and ensures he pulls the rings off as well.
"It would certainly seem some conspiracy is afoot."

"That is not a foot. That is a neck,"Jax says, pointing to the result of Case's handiwork. "So they brought us in here to try to kill us? Why not somewhere else? And why are they trying to kill us? Are there more?" He moves closer to PM and asks again what they see.
"...someone is headed this way," Pieste Mor says, pulling their head back inside the room. "...can't see anything, they may be invisible... but the tread was soft, muffled... unlikely armored..."
Then, hearing Jax, PM rolls their eyes and sighs. "...afoot is not always a foot, my friend... as for necks, let us not stick them out, yes?"
"...my pure speculation would be they are trying to perhaps frame those who do actually belong here?" PM would, well, speculate. "...though. I suspect our tin man is a better sleuth than I..."
