Sorry for being a bit off-the-radar as well. Been a crazy couple of weeks and I'm out in no-man's-land with spotty signal and busy days until the end of March. At this point, I may post something tonight, but it may be just easier to wait for Vaike to get back anyway.

It seems as though my lizardmen are more plot devices rather than crafty-yet-squishy ambushers. Carrying on!
Realizing the forest is risint against them and new forces are joining the fray, the lizardmen begin to scatter. A myriad of hisses and curses follow and some are heard screaming, "Verdant! Verdant!"
In the chaos, a roar bellows from the nearby woods to your left. A man with pale-green skin, standing over 7' tall crashes through the overgrowth, cutting down a few lizardmen in flight with a pair of axes. "Run you savages! Desecrators will not claim this land!" Once the threat is fully routed, the man returns to the clearing and his tent, drops his axes by a burnt out campfire, and plops down. He produces a massive bladder from within the tent and begins to drink , "Come, Outsiders. I can only hope you are not a threat. You work the forest against the scaled ones and I can already see I am outmatched."

“Do not worry for us “ says the Goliath trying not to tramp into any more roots for once “ we came here looking for the Verdant and trying to help with that... infestation...”
The large man gives a smirk, "An infestation? Even now, I'd say it's far from that. More like opportunistic predators on a wounded beast." He ponders for another moment before reluctantly asking, "Do you know what The Verdant are?"

"We have a rough idea about the Verdant. We felt the call for help a couple of days ago. And one of lizardmen was kind enough to answer some questions.
Still, it is unusual for Oni and Trolls to serve mere scavengers."
The man sits a bit more upright now, "You heard the Verdant's call?" He beams a great smile to Perrin, "My friend, if I can be so bold, you may have given this land the first sign of hope in a long time."
He waves everyone over to his bonfire, places a hand over, and fire spouts from his palm and ignites the half-burned timber, "There is much you need to know about this land and The Verdant."

Leaning back momentarily, the man draws a pipe from a bag within the tent. His clothes are tattered and stitched in varying ways and he seems very at home with the woods. "Where to start...The Verdant are both 'who' and 'what'. They are the lifeblood of this forest, but also its caretakers. When the first trees were merely saplings by comparison, a man came upon a great beauty of the forest. So enraptured was he that he vowed to give anything to be with her. She loved a single tree above others and asked the man to see it grow strong. His devotion was so great that he grew the tree threefold in size, then continued to see the entire forest grow too. Over the lives of many great trees, the couple have tended to the forest." A smile cracks across the man's face as rings of smoke billow from his noze.
"In recent days, though, something has changed. The Verdant have become reclusive and dark. They do not commune with the land as they once did and the Lady's great tree has grown brittle. From its base, she appears only after several days at a time and says little. I fear an illness has befallen them. It is no surprise that the lizardpeople have moved this way. Before their recession, The Verdant mentioned a new threat in the woods, but not to fear. The lizardmen and their new leader could not withstand the might of the forest. It seems that something is weakening my masters and this scaled vermin are too eager to move in for the kill."

The massive man is very perplexed by the number of eyes staring at him from Vaike's robe, "I am called Tallgrass. At one time, it was Tallgrass the Tender, Tallgrass the Warden, Tallgrass Treefriend. That was when I was in favor with my Lord and Lady. Now their servants call me Traitor before anything else. The Lady will not see that a blight has befallen Her grove and my Lord has not been seen in months. I insisted something was wrong, but they refused and when I persisted in seeing the Verdant Lord, I was put out."

Vaike sticks out his hand and starts counting on his fingers
”So we got a sentient forest, one that is most likely being magically deceived or controlled by some sort of magical force, a missing guardian of the forest, and a mysterious new bad guy who is slowly taking over control of the forest, and who also happens to have a mangerine of mundane and magical servants, some of which gave us trouble on a scouting run, no where even close to the heart of their forces. Am I missing anything guys?”
"Yeah, yer missing the lit fuse burning towards us once those scouts get back to Zazzy-face. And the lit fuse coming up behind us if we don't clear passage for tha Army an' Commander Cud-chewer has to detour. So we's gots a lotta rocks an' a lotta hard places. All we's gotta do is pick which ones we're gonna be between when they all come crashin' together."
"I don't know about all that, but it seems you've all been through a fair deal thus far. You say you've come across trolls and a, what did you call it, an oni? Was the oni the leading the trolls or just working with them? I've never known the brutes to work with anything before trying to eat it first." Tallgrass gives a shrug, "I don't know why the lizardmen are coming this far south; they typically keep to the swamplands in the north. If the Verdant Lady's warning was true, they are being driven this way by a power great enough to move them in force. It's too coincidental that The Verdant suddenly began to wane just after and we are being encroached upon only a few months later."

”So, Mr Warden, you know the forest better then anyone in our immediate vacinty. Is there any magic weapons, well of powers, springs of mystery, etc., etc, that will let us beat the bad guy and save the forest, because I would much rather have to face some evil lizards then have our near perfect mercany record besmirched.
“oh and I guess have the forest and kingdom ruined.” Vaike adds as a afterthought
"I have a supply of food meant to keep me going for a few days just in case game was scarce. I can split off what I can, but I'll need to go hunting or - provided they don't shoot me on sight - back home sooner rather than later."

Tallgrass gives a sympathetic shrug, "Nothing of terribly great power here save for my once-home. It seems as though our causes are sympathetic, though. I can lead you there, but we may have to negotiate our way through the servants of the grove. They are never keen on outsiders and I've noticed they've been more prickly since I left."

“Anything Special about this once home? Sorry for the grilling, but we have a big and scary unknown threat and a very big time crunch on our hands. I really don’t know what will happen if we can’t secure the forest in time, our forces might resort to something drastic like setting the whole thing on fire, so any assistance is very welcome and probably very relevant for the well being of the forest.”
“You are very kind Tall Grass” replies the Goliath “ I won’t take your food, we have supplies yet, but we can share a drink “ hesays passing his can of med to the man “ we can help you, and perhaps later you ad the Verdant could help us.. “
"Your Lady is a dryad, isn't she," I state, breaking my silence. "What about the Lord?" I pause a moment, mulling over the situation at hand. "How in the Nine Hells are we going to save a magically corrupted dryad?" I scream, quietly but forcefully. I spend a few minutes cursing, then spend another few meditating, then inquire, calmly and politely, but not very optimistically, "You wouldn't happen to have any spare dragon-slaying weaponry laying about, would you?"
