Kurik shimmers through the air appearing next to the dormer, looking down at his target. The man's solid blue eyes gaze up at Kurik with anger.
Kurik swings his blade. The thunder strikes into the man and the blade slices him clean in two in a most unnatural way. Kurik sees he seems to be made of ice inside, as the two halves of his body tumble down the roof and crash down onto the street below. His ice sword shatters at it hits the street. His upper body spasming a bit, he looks up at Kurik who is standing on the roof above looking down. "I was the icemaiden's tool....." *cough cough* "...now I am not. If you think....you've done anything...except earn her rage...." *choking sound* "...you are dead wrong..." he grins an ugly grin, "...emphasis on dead." Then his body stops moving. It appears entirely blue and frozen moments later.

Kari nods acceptingly at Dannika, then turns to the chwinga. Well, what do you think, do you like your new friend? I think it's ok to go with them, if you want to. But I made you something. Out of her pocket she pulls a tiny crude pouch and unties the rough thread holding it closed. There are 5 small animal teeth inside, painstakingly carved with runes. These are like my runes, see? I use mine to speak with my ancestors. Here, let me show you. She takes out her own rune bones and takes a full minute to explain how she sets her intentions, focuses on the question, then casts the bones and reads the for an answer.
I may as well ask a real question. Hmm, uh, If I go downstairs now will I find my companions in trouble?
Kurik whips the sword to the side by habit to flick off the blood. He looks at it and realizes that that is no blood only frost. He says the command word to bring to alight blazing in the night. After a moment he dismisses the effect and sheaths the blade.
The man was dead. A killer and a threat for sure but dead men need no responses. He hopped off the roof, transporting himself in mid air to further up the ally way and to not leave tracks. With a few more hops he has put a good distance between himself and the frozen man and he made his way back to the Tavern. He could sleep a little easier tonight and maybe the towns folk could too. A stray thought about going to Good Mead to see the man's boss bur he'd think of it tomorrow.
The chwinga grabs at it's head in an expression of surprise, and then runs around in a small figure out waving it's hands, before settling down to hunch next to the small teeth. It grabs them all together in it's arms in an expression copying Kari and then crouches there looking at them intensely. Kari has cast her and asks her question. The response is a clear and unequivocal "No." Dannika smiles at the exchange and then goes to pick up the spirit. Kari isn't sure the chwinga entirely understands, but he gathers up his teeth and, watching Kari carefully, let's Dannika pick it up and place it in a pocket on the front of her jacket. "Thank you. This..this could make all the difference. I promise I'll take good care of him." With that, she turns to leave. The small spirit faces Kari the whole time, waiting to see if she is going to protest....but then Dannika turns away and walks down the hallway...and her small friend is gone. A small pouch of 50 gold is left on Kari's bedside table...which Kari looks at with a heavy heart. (protection from cold etc is gone now).
Meanwhile, Kurik returns to the Inn with little trouble.
The rest of the evening passes uneventfully as the group settles into their rooms and gets a solid night sleep. No unusual dreams or events seem to plague anyone this night, though Kurik wakes up with a bit of a rumbling in his stomach.
(full rest achieved, next day!)
You each meet downstairs in the Inn for breakfast. Badger is the last to join the group and emerges looking....quite distracted. He glances all around at the common room as if he's searching for something, or taking it all in for the first time. He glances at the group and away, and then double takes back to them, and tentatively walks over. He stands at the table for a moment without a word, waiting expectantly, but when no one says something, he climbs into the chair silently and goes back to looking about the room.

Kurik stared at Badger as he acted wierd and frowned. He always acted wierd but the quiet was just so strange. "Why so quiet Badger. I've expected at least three complaints by this time "
Kari comes to the table looking colder than she has for a while. She tosses a small pouch of gold (50gp) on the table as she sits down. Here, somebody take this. Badger, I think you were the one that accepted that job, to find a spirit, right? Maybe you should take it. I'm gonna miss the little fellow. She motions for a waiter to order some breakfast and a steaming hot spiced wine, if they have it, then turns back to the others at the table. So, what's the plan for today, go see that Colper gnome fellow at the temple to break the news?
Badger looks at Kurik oddly, and then makes a non-committal, rather gruff shrug, but says nothing.
Mal looks curiously around the room. It seems a bit quieter in here than usual. The conversation seems a bit more subdued, even for breakfast.
The serving boy walks up to the table, "Alo. M'name is Stan. Can I get ya somethin?" He takes the orders all. While he's waitin for the group to decide he says in a conspiratorial voice, "You know, there's a murder last night. Two in fact! A local man named Barton got murdered. An icicle right through his eye. And some o're man got chopped in to two! And all his insides got turned to ice. Creepy stuff. Don't piss off the Icemaiden, that's fer sure."
"Just live your life boy. We all gonna die some time, no use worrying yourself to death," he says absentmindedly. Then looks at the boy, "Eggs if ya got em' and something with meat. On the side or mixed with the eggs, whatever works."
Kurik casts side look at Badger. Unable to shake the feeling that something is off, he risks its. Worm uses it's psychic ability and tries to read Badger's mind and feed the info to Kurik.
When the serving boy returns Mal will ask for a plate of fruit and any hot porridge they might have for breakfast, with of course some sugar treats thrown in.
"Anyone know about any of these murders? Are they associated with anything we are currently looking into." She will ask the group when no one else is around.

Worm scans the surface thoughts from Badger. "...should order some food. Would it be strange if I did not? I suppose I need to eat. Very well. Probably should just order something they order. Or I could just eat their food when it come..."
He attempts to scan deeper...25 ...and is abruptly shut out by Badgers mind. The gnome turns and glances at Kurik, "Try that again, and I'll cut your head off and leave it on a spike."

Mal looks at Badger and then at Kurik and then back to Badger incredulously, "What the hell is up with you this morning? You are not acting normal at all." As Mal gently but firmly puts a hand on badgers shoulder.
Kari looks at Badger when Mal comments, and then remembers what the serving boy said about the bodies. Her face gets a bit stony. Badger did- She stops and leans in, starting again in a much lower volume. Did you have anything to do with those bodies? What are you doing?
Badger raises an eyebrow, "I can assure you I was in my room for the entirety of last night. But...I was watching that one...and he was out and about chopping people in half."
He points a finger across the table at Kurik.

"What?" Mal exclaims a bit too loudly and then looks around, "Kurik have you been going around killing people without me? Next time at least send a girl a heads up so I can join in. So do explain what happened after I went upstairs. By chance did it have anything to do with that blue eyed person I asked Badger to peak inside it mind last night?"
Kurik takes a slow drink. "Yes, and yes," he said and put his glass down. He leaned in a little a spoke quieter. After everyone else left, I kept watching the blue-eyed fellow. He left after the glass blower and gave space to track. Not being familiar with the town I lost him for a brief time but found him. Worm scanned his thoughts and it was all about murdering the glass blower and then heading leaving for Good Mead this morning with whomever is his quote unquote boss. He recognized the magic worm uses and sought who was reading his mind. He became aggressive so I got aggressive-er. He ran and could disappear and reappear short distances away. That may have helped him verses the common folk here but my skills proved better. Though he tried, he left not a single scratch on me, whilest I cut in in two. With his last breaths he claimed he was but a tool of the icemaiden and all I had accomplished was making mad. Then he froze like an icicle... not my doing. So I left."
He took another drink. "So yes, I laid low a predator last night. These people have had enough trouble with just the winter. Now the maiden has her own agents running about killing towns folk. I regret nothing, I appologize for nothing."
There's a bit of awkward silence as people finish their meal. The sudden stressful rise in the conversation leaves everyone a bit quiet. A bit of steamy breath seeps from Mal's mouth as her icy blue eyes survey the table.
Badger grabs a last piece of bacon off of his plate and shoves it in his mouth, then hops off his chair, "Sounds like he deserved it. Good job. Let's go see Colper the gnome at the temple and let him know the news. Be right down after I grab my stuff."
He heads up stairs and eventually comes down with his gear, ready to go. He pulls his goggles over his face and begins wrapping himself up until he's ready to face the cold. A muffled, "Shall we?" comes from beneath the scarf wrap.

Kari quietly finished her breakfast, then when Badger goes to get ready she also gets her things together and bundles up as warmly as she can. Somebody else can have that gold from the half elf she says before she leaves the table, gesturing to the pouch still just sitting there. Maybe you two can split it or something, I don't want it. She is soon ready to treck out into the cold.
