Cerlinde accepts the note and leads the group out of the store "Any final preparations you all need? With any luck, we will figure out how to activate the portal, so we should be prepared for a journey. I"m ready, i hope." She shoulders her pack.
Syd falls in line behind the pretty elf, and wonders aloud if they will be home in time for lunch? "Just in case, we should pack a few sandwiches, only ten or twenty, maybe some fruit, a bit of bread, no more than ten loaves, honey, definitely some sausages and cheese, and a skin or five of wine. A light snack, nothing more."
"Young man, do you really eat all that in a day? To live to this old age, you must make better choices with your diet. I prefer mushrooms, would you like one?"
He holds out a very smelly red toadstool, with a bite taken out of it already.

"In a day? No, no, of course not don't be silly. That's just lunch!" Syd regards the mushroom momentarily, shrugs, accepts it and pops it into his mouth. "Chewy," he mumbles.
Cerlinde, trying somewhat unsuccessfully to hide a look of disgust, says "well, I have some rations, but nothing like that. If you want to get something here in Haven, pick it up now. I have no idea how long this will take, nor do I know what lies on the other side, I only hope it is someplace the apprentice went intentionally, and not some form of trap. Perhaps by studying the notes I can determine that before we enter any portals. We should head to the library soon."
Suddenly wishing he had chewed the toadstool more slowly, Syd sighs sadly. "Unfortunately, I'm low on cash.... Oh well," he brightens up, "I probably needed a diet anyway." He cinches up his belt a notch. "I'll just skip lunch and eat double for dinner! Let's go!"
Cerlinde accepts the note and leads the group out of the store "Any final preparations you all need? With any luck, we will figure out how to activate the portal, so we should be prepared for a journey. I"m ready, i hope." She shoulders her pack.
Mohdrak stretched a bit to limber up. 'Nah, I'm good to go. Lead the way, little lady.'
Cerlinde leads the group over to Drusilla's Forest, explaining to any newcomers that it is "Actually a chained library, which is a library where the books are secured to the shelves with chains to keep them from being taken, and not a forest at all," She adds.." Drusilla can be... challenging to work with. Hopefully we can get what we need. "
Cerlinde says, with a smile-" You've seen my fighting style Ollezall- well sort-of. Frantically running through the woods with hundreds of kobolds chasing us is not how I ever envisioned fighting. I prefer to stay far away from the enemies 'pointy-ends' and throw firebolts, and help out more where I can with my spells"
" Haha yes Cerlinde, I am enamoured by your owl; a very useful companion in both combat and scouting. I look forward to seeing the full capabilities of your skill, now we aren't being harassed by kobolds.....speaking of which, I'm pretty sure one of the kobolds that came through the portal tried to enter into a bond of servitude with me... Very curious, since a minute before that he was trying to kill us...."
To Syd; " the pointy end is a good tactic.... You like to run in first and be in the thick of the action then? Are you able to take a lot of hits? Or would you benefit from having magic protection against the other person's 'pointy end'?" Ollezall pauses to allow Syd thinking time (not in a condescending way, Ollezall just perceives that word vomit confuses Syd).
" Unlike a wizard, my repertoire of magic is lower and I have to meditate and prepare certain Spells ahead of time; if I know you like being in the thick of a fight for example, I will focus on magic that supports you being hit less, or perhaps in you hitting harder than your foe does. Anything to ensure you walk away from the fight alive" Ollezall smiles genuinely.
After the others have departed Cassandra turns back just as she was about to leave the room, finding Kandra standing there. "Ah, there you are. Better late than never, I suppose. I am rather intrigued by your chosen path. I don't think I've come across someone like you in my travels, though I've heard tales. How did you come to learn your magic and how do you now find yourself in Haven?"
(@Bender2120301, not sure if you want your class/past to be known to the party, so trying to walk that line. Play it how you like.)
(For the rest of the party, I'm assuming Kandra will catch up after she chats with Cassandra. Chat amongst yourselves as you like, let me know if you want me to RP any shopping or other prep, or if you've otherwise made it over to Drusilla's.)
Cerlinde leads the group over to Drusilla's Forest, explaining to any newcomers that it is "Actually a chained library, which is a library where the books are secured to the shelves with chains to keep them from being taken, and not a forest at all,"
Syd ponders this notion, and muses, "When I was tending goats, Uncle Dimnodder used to say that 'the rope is only as strong as whatever it's tied to'. If I use a thick rope but tie it to a small, brittle branch, it does little to keep the goat from wandering. If the chains are strong, but the books themselves are weak, old or brittle, it seems like it wouldn't prevent much theft."
Ollezal:
...if I know you like being in the thick of a fight for example, I will focus on magic that supports you being hit less, or perhaps in you hitting harder than your foe does. Anything to ensure you walk away from the fight alive"
The light slowly dawns in the orc's eyes. "Yeah, OK, I do prefer up-close fighting. Either of those options sounds great, thanks!" He leans closer and tries (but fails) to whisper, "But what would be really awesome is if when I hit someone really hard you could make little magical stars orbit around their head for a few seconds. That would be swell!"
"Little magical stars? Mmm, I knew someone who could do something like that, yeees, yes."

'How hard can it be?' Mohdrak gave the elf wizard a grin. 'She's a librarian, right? All them smart types listen to logic. I'm sure if we explain it to her carefully, she'll be happy to help.'
He reached for the door, angling his head as to not accidently scratch the sides of the doorframe, and entered the library.

Cerlinde sighs, carrying the note and the purse of coins, and says.. "Just... let me do the talking. And don't test the strength of the chains or the books, Syd!" She enters the library and goes to look for Drusilla.
As the party enters Drusilla's Forest, they see that the front room consists of three main stacks, each capable of seating ten people, five on each side. There are two smaller bookcases against walls that can seat two more people each. At the moment, there are only a few people in the library. They were reading quietly, but they seem to be collectively startled at the appearance of such a large group, particularly one comprised of such exotic folks and obvious adventurers. A kenku tentatively approaches from behind a desk located at the back of the room. A random assortment of voices emanate from its open beak, but you can clearly understand the words. "Welcome to ... Drusilla's Forest ... We may ... assist ... you?" The sable avian looks you over nervously, turning its head slightly to one side. From the well-worn scholarly robes, with sheafs of parchment and quills poking out of randomly placed pockets, you can surmise that this kenku is, in fact, an employee of Drusilla's, and likely involved in the transcription of books from the library's holdings.
While Syd waits for Cerlinde to explain their mission, he browses around for any interesting illustrated volumes, such as "Beauty and the Orc" or "Greatsword Magazine" or "Barbarian Fashion: Kilts vs. Loincloths"

'Get book, get guy, get back. Sounds simple enough.' The minotaur wiped a splotch of dirt from one of his horns and scratched his ear.
