Stena, they're being cautious as you and Jimjar approach, but weapons have been relaxed and they don't seem in inclined to attack.
The leader pushes forward a bit, similarly keeping hand away from his rapier, resting his forearms on the swell of armor covering his not insubstantial belly.
"I take it one or the other of you are able to speak Undercommon more fluently than the shadow elf? We have goods to trade, if you're in need."

"Aye, some of us have a better grasp on undercommon. We aren't in any immediate need, but what have ye got? Ye coming from Darklake then? What news of the tunnels ahead?"
He glances down at your bare feet and assorted armor but lack of clothing and nods.
"Huhm. Assorted goods, the sort folks living down here are in need of. Let me know what you might be interested in, and I'll see if we've got it. Yeah, tunnels are wet and dark, but that's normal."

Galingal listens the best he can to the exchange between Stena and the drow merchant, catching a couple of words but missing most. He does notice the merchant looking down at their rags and bare feet.
He takes out the dagger he found in the drow barracks, aloing with the scrap of cloth and spider hair clip, and pops open the secret compartment in the dagger's hilt.
"Stena," Galingal says in common. "Shoes, clothes. Could trade this dagger and clip and cloth. Value enough for boots and clothes for everyone?"
((Less than two hundred feet, chamber has a series of twisting passages leading into it, much smaller than the main ones you entered and exited through.))
He shakes his head. "I never understood dwarven fashion choices. The fish folks are a bit excited about something or the other, we didn't stop. They're too crazy to trade proper anyway, and there's not much market for the goods they make. Usually only stop there if we have something weird to sell them."

"They're not warriors," Galingal says in Common. "Those holding crossbows likely hurt themselves if try to shoot."
Galingal then shows Stena the dagger again.
"No coins. We'll have to trade." Galingal says in to Stena in Common. "Need shoes, clothes. Could trade this dagger and spider hair clip and cloth. Value enough for boots and clothes for everyone maybe?"
"No, aye can't imagine they have much of value. There was a patrol of goblins back that way but we cleared most of them but ye know how they are, maybe stirred up an Ankheg's nest."
Stena waits in her asking the others for now and follows up with, after having conferred with Galingal,
"We have some items of value to trade, if that is of interest. We'd be looking for clothing, boots, packs and water skins in return."
She does wonder with more than a little irritation why she is running intermediary in the negotiations when the elves can just speak their own silly sing-song language.
Lia cranes her neck to try and see what’s happening up ahead. From the very back she just makes out voices discussing something up at the front and round the corner…
"Yes, we'd have some of that to trade, if you've something of value. Shall we retire to an area with a bit more space so we can unload some of our pack beasts?"

Stena will translate it over to Galingal, and if he doesn't have any opposition to the idea,
"Aye, we have things of value to trade. Come on ahead there's some space over here."
Stena will move away and quickly explain the situation to the party, waving them back to the nearest large meeting space. She isn't sure what to do with Sarith, but figures he can figure it out himself. She quietly adds,
"They aren't all warriors. Got some guards but most of them of them have the look of traders. We're looking to get some gear, but be ready should they decide its a better deal to kill us."
"My there's a bunch of you! Clothing, boots, packs and waterskins, if I recall... how many of each were you needing? And what do you offer in exchange, of course...?"

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Galingal, has been watching the merchant and his caravan, letting Stena deal with them so he can better gauge their intentions. From what he can see they really are just merchants and at best have a minimal working knowledge of the weapons they're using. But are they hiding anything? Are they holding themselves ready for a fight because they're scared or about to attack the party?
Insight: 17
Finally, Galingal decides to speak elvish to the lead merchant.
"Clothing, boots, and the rest don't seem like they cost much," Galingal says in elvish, "I would think this though would have high value."
He shows them the dagger Eldeth, Stool and he found in the barracks. He pops open the hidden compartment and shows them the cloth and the spider hair clip.
You get the sense that they are merchants, but that his jovial attitude is a bit of a front. He seemed a bit disappointed to see the others. You've an uneasy suspicion that had it just been you, Lia and Stena, that they may have taken a different approach. You'd have probably been of greater value as captured slaves than just dead, but the nine (visible as Stool, Sarith and Derendil are out of sight) of you are more than enough to deter an initiation of hostilities on their part.
You also notice eyes flicking to the various states of the party's haphazard garb... including some amount of armor in the style of the warriors from the drow outpost, and the motley assemblage. There's a good chance that you've been pegged as escaped slaves.
The drow merchant speaks to Galingal in elvish, and inspects the dagger and clip.
"Ah, so you can converse! Indeed, assorted clothing and the like may not be much overall, but for multiple people... it does add up. May I?"
If you hand the clip and dagger over for him to inspect, he'll look them over before handing them back.
"I'd value the dagger at 2 gold, and the clip at 25, so you'd have 27 in trade that you could work with. Packs are two, can get a set of clothes, including boots, for two. Waterskins are 2 silver. Depending on what you're wanting, we can see what we've got in inventory..."
He snaps his fingers, and one of the unarmored drow pulls out a ledger and begins flipping through it, looking to Galingal for an indication of how many packs, sets of clothes and boots, and waterskins the party is wanting.
((Goblin clothes, but no boots. Upgraded clothing would be welcome: Buppido, Eldeth, and Jimjar)) >> 6 gp? ((No clothes, would like to be covered: Derendil & Lex)) >> 4 gp? ((Drow uniform and boots, but may want something more casual: Sarith)) >> 2 gp? ((Don't need boots or clothes: Shuushar and Stool))
((So 12 gp would get all the NPCs (+Lex) that want clothes taken care of. Derendil likely not going to fit in normal clothes, but maybe a robe or cloak? None of them have waterskins, only a few of you have packs. Some sort of blankets would make the camp less cold.))

“I would take a pack and some boots”, says Lia, in common. “Do they have more arrows?”, she asks ((and she would share a quiver-worth of arrows with 1 or 2 others)).
After checking with the group and seeing the obvious issues with some body types more than others, he lets merchant know what they're looking for:
- the 12gp for the clothes etc for the NPCs and Lex (including Derendil's robe, yes?)
- clothes/boots for Lia, Stena, Thom and Galingal - 8 gp
- two more packs - Stena and Lia - 4gp
- 10 waterskins - 20 sp (2gp)
- bundle of 20 arrows (1g - assuming they go for market price)
Gets them to the 27gp offered for the dagger and hair clip.
Galingal has never had to outfit a unit before and keeping gold in reserve might make more sense, but he still needs the warriors of the group to help get him to Darklake and away from drow pursuit. And they won't go unless all are taken care of.
As they wait to see if the merchant can produce everything requested, Galingal leans in to Stena and says quietly in Common. "They will sell out our location as soon as they come across drow slavers. Threaten them? Kill them?"

When he avoids answering any of her questions in a meaningful way she says,
