Lia graciously accepts the offer of food and drink. She tries a strip of the jerky…
((Does she like it check: 6 ))
The taste is not pleasant to her, and whatever they’ve used to ‘jerk’ this food, is stinging her cracked lips. She smiles nonetheless politely to the fishfolk, in thanks. She also eats as much as she can, regardless, since she’s learned not to trust getting more food anytime soon down here.
She thanks Thom for his concern and is slightly heartened by all the chatter of their situation changing for the better under the care of these fishfolk.
When she is safely back in the boat, she sits close to Thom. He will notice her head nodding a couple of times, as the movement of the boat and the rhythmic lapping of water only hurries her towards comfortable sleep, after, what, days of running and fighting?
She eventually slumps against him, loosing all grip on wakefulness as they are paddled onward in relative safety.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Thom would say to Lia "we'll be there soon, mate. Not to worry, yeah?" and he would lean against the side of the boat as she puts some of her weight on him.
(short rest?)
Oh - I also like what Lia did with her 'does she like it' check. So, here's Thom's check! 17
The KT is very twitchy as it slinks slowly up to the boat, pausing every so often to glance around.
The two of you make the early part pretty easily, slipping across water and sand with not much more noise than the gurgling and dripping natural to the cavern. The KT has finished checking the contents and has started pushing at the boat as you reach the half way point, 150 ft away. It shifts a bit in the sand, the back end floating in water as you come within 120 ft, the KT still glancing around. As it keeps shoving, and you keep slipping forward, it whips its head in your direction as you reach 90 ft away and it gives a yelp, heaving at the boat as it begins to slip free of the sandbar.
The KT hops in and scrambles for a paddle digging it into the sandy bottom and trying to shove off.
Thom and Lia:
The fungus jerky has a spicy, salty and acidic cure on it, that Thom quite likes, but Lia doesn't find to her taste.
As you are paddled along, you notice the current starting to pick up.
"It narrows here, and flows down to a wide area. There is a bridge that crosses the river. Good place to set an ambush, if you want to be on the lookout.", Ploopp mentions.
((Like a hot sauce, salt and vinegar beef jerky, but fungus.))

@DM & Lia
((that jerky sounds delicious - especially being vegan myself! Thanks!))
Thom was quite enjoying the ride until he gets jarred slightly from his comfy position with Lia against him as the current starts to pick up.
Thom adjusts his position back to an alert seated position, gently moving Lia's weight off him and suggesting she also sit up alert. He says to her "damn, guess we should hang on, yeah?"
Thom says to Ploopp "Ploopp mate, how rough does the river get?" and he tightens his grips on the side of the boat. easy for them yeah they can just hop in the water and swim yeahThom thinks to himself. He's not a fan of rough waters. Never has been.
After Ploop mentions the potential ambush site, Thom just lets out a defeated sigh. In his mind it was going to be a calm relaxing paddle to the village!
He simply says "Alright."and he narrows his eyes and begins to scan the riverbanks as it narrows and we approach the bridge.
It's kind of a mixed bag, terrain wise. The sandy parts are decent, but wading through water would be difficult, but in some places you can jump across. Sticking as strictly as possible to sandy parts, however, may mean a longer, more circuitous route. Fortunately, the KT doesn't have a straight shot out of here either.
Let's call it half difficult terrain? She and Gal can make it 20 ft with their movement? So 40 ft on a dash.
The KT doesn't show signs of stopping, though it does duck when Stena threatens to shoot it (half cover).
If you use just move, it'll be 70 ft away, can close to within 50 ft if you dash.
Thom and Lia:
((It sounded pretty good to me, but both of those can be pretty divisive! My wife wouldn't touch spicy fungus, and salt and vinegar can be too intense for her sometimes.))
"Not too bad, just moves fast. As long as no rocks have shifted, and nothing is waiting for us, should be fine!"
It is now moving faster than it would be possible to paddle, and the KTs are dipping their paddles in and using them as rudders to keep the boat centered in the channel.
It's a lot to take in quickly, Thom's eyes scanning swiftly, but he doesn't see anything out of place. He has to wonder if the bridge would have been something they'd have crossed if they'd not ended up getting ferried to Slobludop by boat.
Lia stays alert, but doesn't find anything to shoot in her quick scan of the area.
He judges the distance. 90' is still too far for him to be able to do anything. So he takes off as fast as he can, dashing to try and intercept the kuo-toa, wondering if Stena might just let an arrow loose into his back too.
The arrow arcs up into the dark, before plunging down and skewering the KT, which gives a yelp and slumps over the side of the boat, fishy hands loosing grip on the paddle as the boat and paddle begin to drift lazily.
You hurry forward, and are able to reach the boat.
The first thing you see in addition to the just killed Kuo-toa is that the rest of the boat is unoccupied other than the slumped form of Shuushar, and some assorted gear piled in the bottom. You see no signs of KT crew, or any of your other companions in the boat.
Galingal scoops up the paddle as they get to the boat. Once he gets a look at the kuo-toa and the arrow, he looks over to Stena and raises an eyebrow and gives the dwarf a smile.
"Good shot," Galingal say.
He then pulls the kuo-toa out of the boat, quickly checks him for any useful gear, and then lets him drift away before climbing into the boat.
He does his best to steady the boat with the paddle as Stena gets in, then continues out into the waterway, trying to get through the sandbars to get them back heading in the direction of the kuo-toa town.
Gal, with your passive perception, you'd easily notice that from where the boat was beached on the sandbar, there are bloody dragmarks leading across to the back side of this sandbar, from your current position, you can make out some slumped figures...

Galingal pauses and before Stena gets in the boat he points over at the slumped bodies on the other side of the sandbar.
"We should check first," Galingal says.
He hops out of the boat, back into the water and motions for Stena to grab a side and drags the boat on to the sandbar so it doesn't float away.
Galingal then goes over to the bodies to check them - see if he recognizes anyone or if there is anyone alive, or if neither, to see if there's any equipment worth salvaging.
There are three bodies in the sand at the water's edge... a kuo-toa which has been brutally but precisely eviscerated, Buppido's bedraggled form, and the remains of what you can tell from the red hair, is what remains of Eldeth. Each of them is positioned at the water's edge, with their legs in the water and their torsos on the damp sand. Their arms are stretched above their heads, and in the case of one of the KTs, their sternum having been hacked open and laid open like a butterfly, their organs removed and placed around them, entrails still intact but cut loose and strung like unfinished sausage festooning a halo around the grisly sight.
It looks like the same process had been begun on Eldeth, her armor wrenched off of her and her abdominal cavity sliced into, but while some of her entrails have been pulled free, her chest cavity has not been cracked open, or any organs removed. Buppido lies on the far side of her, positioned in the water the same way, with his arms above his head, but as you approach, you can see a shallow rise and fall of his chest.
Thom and Lia:
It's a bit of a white knuckler, apparently 'not that bad' has a different meaning for kuo-toa, as there are multiple times that Derendil and Thom have to man paddles to fend the boat off from taking a broadside to a rock or turn in the river as it plunges down, but you make it through, along with the other boats, and the mad fishfolk seem to actually enjoy it. The river widens into a broad cavern where the sudden expansion of the width of the water slows its flow dramatically and you serenely bob in the water, assorted sandbars with glowing fungi stretching before you. Draping festoons of glowing fungi descend from the ceiling in blues and greens, and you can see the water reflecting the light between the sandbars.
((Essentially like a river delta forming lots of low sandy islands.))

"WOAH! Not that bad?!"Thom yells out as he grabs a paddle and fends off the rocks with the Prince, trying his best to keep the boat afloat. He looks over at the KT almost in desperation as they seem to enjoy this and kind of shakes his head. of course they like it! He thinks to himself.
As they eventually get past the rougher waters and get to the wider section and into the cavern, Thom settles down and puts the paddle down. He says "Ah. Well, this is much better, yeah?"His eyes widen as he takes in his surroundings. "It's.. kind of beautiful, right? The glow, I mean."
Hey says to Sarith, Lia and the Prince "Everyone still aboard? ha ha."
He takes a good look around now that the water is calm and he can relax a bit again and take in the surroundings.
Stena snorts dismissively at the compliment of her shooting and will recover her arrow if she is able before gladly letting the KT float.
She'll check to see if Shuushar is breathing before helping beach the boat and moving to check whatever Galigal saw.
On seeing the remains of Eldeth she becomes very, very still and her hand holding her bow goes white. After several long seconds she begins to slowly take deep breaths through her gritted teeth. She closes her eyes and mutters something in dwarven with a hoarse voice before finally taking the final slow steps to look down on what is left of her fellow dwarf. After looking at her for a moment she will pull her out of the dark water onto the sand and kneel beside her. She'll place a hand on Eldeth's forehead before leaning in and whispering something in dwarven to the corpse. Wiping away a few strands of Eldeth's hair from her face Stena will stand and begin to scan the beach for Eldeth's shield and hammer (or remember if they were in the boat?).
At this point she will say to Galigal as she looks, needing to restart a couple times before it comes out coldly,
"We have more people to find and Koa-tau to kill."
She will eventually pause to look at Buppido and sigh.
"What do we do about the derro? He will turn on us eventually, just like the rest of his kind." She eyes Galigal with renewed suspicion, "But aye'm not okay with leaving him here for them to do..." she gestures at the dead koa-tua's mangled corpse and eyes twitching towards towards where Eldeth lays, "That."
Jimjar had a fine time placing bets, both that you'd make it, and that you'd all sink. It looks like he about broke even, cheerfully handing off wagers he won to cover wagers he lost.
Sarith gives you a rare smile before wincing and rubbing his temple. "I think I was clenching my teeth so hard I gave myself a migraine."
Lia, you're too taken in by the eerily lovely cavern, the reflecting luminous light and the soft echoing gurgle of water to note it, but Thom's focus immediately goes to a sandbar in the middle of the dark subterranean delta, where he can see movement of two figures silhouetted against a backdrop of glowing fungi... and perhaps the outline of a boat? It's hard to tell.
One of the figures is a good bit taller than the other.
Galingal and Stena:
Shuushar still draws breath, from the swelling on the side of his head, you think he might still be unconscious from being captured by the kuo-toa.
Eldeth's shield and hammer rest in the bottom of the boat.

Stena curses and judges the terrain, can she run full out on it? Does it look like difficult terrain?
If it does she'll pull her bow and yell in undercommon,
"Stop or aye'll put an arrow in your head!"
She'll hold her attack pending the KT's action. If they stop she'll not shoot, if they keep going arrow time.
If the terrain looks okay she'll just dash.
