Since you're trained in the use of them, you think the hair clip might be able to serve as a makeshift lock picking device if you had something to tension and help turn the lock.

Lia sits watching and listening to all this. Her stomach rumbles when the wafts of roasting meat drift through the cell.
When Io questions her, about her race and upbringing, she tries to nod, or gesture after each question (not being able to speak). But Io’s questions soon become too rapid and too intricate to answer in mime.
She did actually once perform a mime about the socio-political structure of the Aasimar and how they integrate into the communities they’re born in to. But before she can begin recreating the performance, Io had asked something different.
As the others speak of escape, Lia becomes more hopeful. She watches with interest when Galingal is trying to pick the manacles…
Ah I think you had explained that earlier in the game, although I'm not sure Thom was there yet? Anyhow, apologies if I missed that!
Thom responds to Galingal when he speaks about the amulet symbol and allowing power to flow through him with only a "huh. ok, gotcha."
Thom then gets much more enthusiastic though when Galingal starts talking about potentially being able to pick the lock using the shard plus that thing he found. He's quite impressed that this blindfolded elf might be able to do this. Then he thinks to himself a strange one this... shadow elf was it? Ah, it matters not. he seems laser focused on getting out of here, yeah?and blind even...
(Yep Thom is starting to talk to himself.)
Thom says out loud to Galingal in elvish "Absolutely. Here." and he gives the flint shard to Galingal, and holds his hands out waiting anxiously for him to try and use whatever that thing he found plus the shard to pick the lock. "My hands are out."
He also has a thought that Galingal is about to run him through. try and run him through :)
Thom rolls his eyes rather obviously when Galingal says that it would be easier if he had proper tools.Thom knows Galingal can't see him rolling his eyes, that's why he does it.
"Well thanks for trying, Galingal." and he would wait to see if he gets his shard back. "Anyone else wanna try?"
While the others plan and plot, Lia listens. If she could speak or sing she might be more help!… ‘Soon. Perhaps…’, she thinks…
Standing, and pacing her large oval around the room, and stepping lightly past or over some of the others that may be seated or prone, she gracefully moves her arms up and around, testing the range of motion afforded to her, by the manacles and chains…
@DM…
((OOC: @Spider, you described the limited motion, in detail, a while back. That was very useful. Thanks. But Lia is now trying to make lyrical movements to see if the manacles allow the motion needed for some of the somatic components of her spells. What sense, of whether somatic components of spells would be possible with the manacles on? Thanks))
Thom sees and Galingal feels the flint chip a little as he fails to unlock the manacles. Not enough to damage it too much, but enough that you'd know there's a chance that if it goes poorly, the sharp, brittle rock might shatter in the lock.
@Lia
Unless they are described otherwise, I generally interpret somatic components to largely be finger gestures, in which case the manacles wouldn't impede the casting of the spell, but since you're considered restrained other than in terms of movement, your aim would be hampered for any spell attacks.

IF Galingal gives the shard back to Thom, he will wait to see who might offer to try the makeshift pick and shard before he just gives it over to someone to try again.
gonna be useless if I'm still chained... but it's still worth the shot he thinks to himself.
Thom waives his hand in acceptance. "Fine. Go for it. If it breaks, it breaks. It's not likely long enough to fit into one of their throats all the way anyway, yeah?"
If Galingal could see Thom's eyes, he'd see a dark gaze in them as he says this.
He then extends his arms out again for Galingal to try again. "Here. My arms are out again, yeah?" He doesn't care if he just tries the flint alone again, but if Lia's rabbit tooth or long fish tooth removes the disadvantage from Galingal's check, that's cool!
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Galingal likes the feel of the long hard fish tooth in his hand and tries one more time on Thom's shackles. He holds the pins steady and tries to find the right leverage with the hair clip to pop it open.

Stena nods to Eldeth and looks to Thom and Io with keys and plans.
She then moves to Stool places a hand on her head then points at the myconid and says,
"Time to speak Stool."
At Thom's question about the amulet, Galingal takes a breath.
"Amulet symbol of Queen. Allows her power to enter and flow through me,"Galingal says.
@KleinDungeons
aka Galingal's holy symbol so he can actual use it as a focus for some of his spells when he can actually see again
He then rolls the clip and cloth over in his hands while the others talk. Then he stops and feels one end of the clip, bending it as he does.
"Thom," Galingal calls out in elvish. "Have you still the flint?"
He holds out the hair clip and shows the end he has bent slightly.
"With this and flint shard, maybe open shackle," Galingal says. "Hold firm. Like this."
Galingal holds his hands out as far as they will go, straining the tether between the shackles so that the lock holds in one position.
"Most time work by touch. By feel. Not sight when open locks. Loan shard, I try on yours."

Galingal reaches out to Thom, finding his hands and the manacle and then the lock.
"This would be easier if had proper tools," Galingal says. "Maybe with amulet."
He then sets to work on Thom's lock.

Galingal works with the lock for a bit but when the flint chips, he pauses and holds up the flint to Thom.
"Is it badly broken?" Galingal says as he tries to feel the flint. "If have other hard tool hold notch open, I try again."
@All
Happy to try Galingal again on a lock (he's +5 on a using dex for a lockpick attempt) but if someone else wants to give it a go, jump in.
Lia sees what he’s doing and offers Galingal her rabbit tooth or her long fish tooth. She places both in his hand so he can feel them and decide.
