The man let’s Sunny tend to his left hand. There, by the index finger, lies a superficial. The ranger can summarize that the man simply cut himself while finishing the food and was quite used to cursing at the smallest things. A rough man, no doubt but a grateful one. He answers to Amadi with a wave of his head, trusting the blacksmith’s expertise with the flames.
The woman is visibly surprised when Gabriel introduces himself, looking to her husband practically in disbelief. Her expression changes again when Sylvio mentions her loss. Her sadness is palpable, and she looks tired, older almost. It is not an easy thing to talk about.
“They have questions, about this lead they are following and seeing as they offered to help with your sickness…”
“Well, that explains why someone form the Guild of Apothecaries and Physicians is doing on these parts. Thank you all for the kindness and what should I do for the exanimation?” She says looking at the aasimar and then to the tortle. “I’m afraid we don’t have any other place to go. Even our closest parents don’t live more than a few streets by.”
“Believe me, lass, no one would stay in the Field Ward if they had other option.” Says the man offering the group a place in the table. There are five empty chairs, wood without decoration. “And the little buggers always know what is happening. But tell me, what can we do to help with your search for this lead of yours?”

@Jynne, Sunny easily treats the wound on the man's hand. It will take no more than a day or two for it to heal completely. @Gunner, Sweeps sees nothing approaching the shack. @Gruba, make me an Medicine Check DC 12 in case Gabriel proceeds to examine the woman.
Sylvio nods to the man. “Sylvio knows-a the field ward well and-a the people who live in it-a. What is-a your name?”
“We have learned that-a the trollyard may be the source of-a some curse that is-a growing and affecting children and-a women in-a particular. Have-a you or your neighbors noticed anything strange around-a the area?”
Sunny nods seeing the truth in what the man says. Who would choose such a rough life with other options? "There you go, a day or two and the hand should be healed nicely." She takes a place near the wall fearing to damage their chairs with her bulky frame and shell. "What we are looking for is someone casting some sort of ritual in the area. Would you be willing to tell us how your son died? If I may ask? It may be related."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Gabriel tries to reassure the woman "I do not mean to be intrusive or improper, some simple questions and observation of you as you are should suffice"
Asking a few questions about symptoms and looking for signs of certain maladies in the lady's eyes and skin, Gabriel tries to determine if her sickness might be curable by mundane, magical or celestial means.
Satisfied that there were no threats on the street outside, at least at the moment, and content to let the others fuss over healing and questioning the man and woman, Sweeps leans against the wall next to the window. His eyes roll back in his head as he opens his awareness for the presence of magic nearby that may lead to either the box or the crow.
Magic Awareness:
(OOC: Using Magic Awareness feature to know the location of any spell or magic item within 60 feet that isn’t behind total cover. When you sense a spell, you learn which school of magic it belongs to.)
Gabriel considers the lady's answers to his questions and the evidence before his own eyes. "Ma'am, I'm afraid your current sickness is beyond me to cure right here and now. But I promise you we are working to remove the affliction at source. Until then, please rest and try to keep up your fluid intake"
The healer drops his head to stare at the floor between his feet, feeling useless in the moment but inspired to end the suffering of this poor woman - and all other innocents.
"Are there any of these little buggers we should specifically seek? Any that we can trust to provide truthful information of what is happening in this area? " Amadi asks as he stokes the fire.
Sweeps extend his senses, opening his mind to the presence of arcane energy in its concentrated form, instinctively searching for a spell or an item. With some luck he could even find the kotoribako itself. Unfortunately, that is not the case for the barbarian can’t feel a thing. No magecraft at all in the surrounding sixty feet. He remembers what captain Ironwood had mentioned to the five of them, in what seemed to be another life - not even the Blackstaff, the most powerful mage of Waterdeep, had detect any sign magic in either the bodies or the homes of the dead noble children. Gabriel had noticed and triggered something, that was for sure, but then again, he had strong ties with the divine. Maybe such connection would be needed to mystically feel the box, but even then, who knows how close one would need to be of the actual kotoribako. Gabriel was actually examining a victim’s body and even then, a moment was needed before anything happened.
Bryte makes his examination, fast but detailed and precise. The woman was pale, a tint of a fever noticeable over her skin. Her pulse was normal and there was no sign of wound or any other sickness. It was like she was weakened by sleep deprivation or malnutrition, but neither seemed possible. There was food and the stove and no black eyes under her eyes. No, something other was affecting her and Sunny’s words when they reached the shack immediately came to his mind. It is the curse. It’s affecting her, and will kill her if it’s not stopped.
Meanwhile, Sylvio and Amadi pose questions to the couple. The mention of their child cast a silence upon the both of them. The wound was still to fresh for them, but they understood they needed to speak. At least with those five. They could at least stop whatever took their boy. That was something, had to be something.
“Thank you, doctor. I’m Robb.” The man says almost absentminded. “I mean, Robert.” It become quite obvious he is more used to the nickname than his actual name. “Strangest thing to happen lately was, well, our loss. And, I don’t think any kid would know anything specifically but the street ones in general know things. It is how you got there. About Sammy…”
“I will talk.” The woman interrupts Sam. Her voice is tense, nervous, like she is holding from shaking and maybe even crying. “It was me who found him.”
“Clare, you don’t need to force yourself.”
“It is fine, I promise.” She looks at Robb trying to force a smile. He approaches his wife and gently put his hand over her shoulder. With a deep breath Clare turns her attention back to the adventurers. “Robb leaves early for work and I wake even earlier to make breakfast. Some hours later I’d wake our boy, Sammy. Had the father’s hair, but my eyes. He was so beautiful and strong. But that day, when I entered his room I found he…” Her voice breaks, and she takes another deep breath before continuing. “It was like he had vomited blood. I ran to him, screaming, trying to wake him up it was too late.”
The poor woman is visibly holding tears, the memory of that day too sad for her.

Sunny nods, "He sounds a handsome boy, gifted with pleasant features. I'm sorry to bring up your sorrow but appreciate your information. We've seen others like this, noble children. We were asked not to speak of it, and I believe it's because of the panic that may be caused in a city as large as this. So, they may be right to keep it quiet. We've tracked it to this area of the Field Ward, near here. It attacks women and children," She hesitates to watch the woman's face to see if she says too much, but sees a strength in those eyes, their eyes, and continues. "Some sort of ritual or curse is being done by an evil creature needing something of us, you and I to do so. Getting you away might weaken it some and help you to recover. I feel weak here too. It is our experience that it only attacks females and children, as it avoided the others in our group when it attacked me. It was the only way I survived. It, a Crow, returns again and again even if destroyed, so make haste to leave the area if you see it. We do not believe that it is the one that creates the ritual, only a messenger but because you live close to where we believe it resides, I wanted you to know what we know of it for now." She looks around at the group, hoping that they are in agreement with what she's shared then back to the couple. "There's nothing you could have done to prevent this."
Sylvio nods “It’s as the others were-a found. Sunny has-a the right of it. Some sort of-a beastly crow was-a fighting is and-a seemed to be coming from-a the trollyard. Did-a your son mention anything odd-a such as strange birds or-a creatures that-a he saw?”
Amadi set a grim face as Sunny and Sylvio spoke. He didn't want to overwhelm the family with questions and the others seemed to have it well in hand. He made a mental note to keep an eye of for other street kids.
Sunny gives the woman time to respond in case her son commented on anything strange before his death. It was all they had to go on before going back onto the street to look.
(How is Sunny feeling within the home - worse, same?)
Sweeps shakes his head to clear the effort of searching for the presence of magic. “I cannot detect the box or the crow, I sense nothing nearby.” he informs the others.
Sweeps turns back to the family “In addition to the crow Sylvio describes, we believe a foreigner from the Far East has hidden a box of cursed items nearby. Have you seen anyone with that description recently?” Sweeps tries to describe the clothing worn by some of the crew they spoke with at the docks.
Clare nods in response to Sunny’s complements to her son, a faint attempt of a smile forming in the poor woman’s face. Robb approaches her and rests his hand on his wife shoulder, showing to her that he was at her side. She recognizes it, putting her hand over his. For a moment, a brief moment, they exchange looks, visibly saddened.
“We don’t have anywhere to go.” He says to Sunny. In her silence the tortle centers her mind in the feeling of sickness. It seems to worsen only when she walks in a specific direction, southeast. “What do you mean by beastly crow?”
The man asks Sylvio, confused. To him the word evoked the image of a dangerous beast, a bear or maybe a werewolf. But a crow? Things were small and mostly inoffensive. Provided you weren’t a corpse or trying to hide one. They loitered around the trash too, but that was the extent of the bird’s presence.
“There are lot of foreigners around these parts all the time since the Ward is patrolled, but Orientals are a rare sight. Can’t ay I see any outside of the port.” He answers Sweeps after taking a moment to think, most likely to make sure if he couldn’t remember someone like that. “I don’t know about any item box either. Cursed or not, this kind of thing would have been taken by folk around here. Made a lot a noise, you know?”
Street smart, both rogue and barbarian understand that Robb means to say that any item left on the Field Ward would have become a well-known history for the locals. Amadi and Sunny, with their keen eyes, know the human is telling as much as he knows.
"Can you stop this ritual or curse?" Robb asks looking at the ranger.
Notes: As per usual, the mention to Amadi and Sunny's "keen eyes" illustrates them both noticing something because of their passive perceptions. In case of doubt, as always, feel free to as in the OOC chat.
Amadi looked at the woman. "We will do our best, I believe that we can. We fought the crow creature and lived to tell of it. We can defend ourselves from it again. We need to find this box that is likely buried somewhere nearby and destroy it. Then we need to find out who is behind this. Finding the box will be difficult. It will be found here though, close by. As it grows in power it's range grows but started here." He pauses for a moment. "Tell me, were you the first to lose a child in this manner? Or is there another you have heard of? And when did your loss occur? How many days ago?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Sylvio keeps an eye out through the windows for anyone approaching. He’s beginning to feel that these folk were a waste of time. They have no new information and haven’t been able to help them get closer to this cursed box.
"We hope so. No Promises, but we dearly want to. I noticed coming here, the further West I went the worse I felt. Does your pain get worse in any specific part of the house? It might give us a hint to which way to go." Sunny sees the others looking nearly ready to go and pauses for an answer before giving them both a solemn look. "We will do all we can." Gathering herself up and striding for the door. "Come on friends, we don't have a lot of time."
Gabriel looks both sad and surprised at the tortle's revelation: "I am sorry to hear of your discomfort Sunny, but do you think we could, erm, follow your symptoms? Travel westwards until we maybe find the source? Maybe then we can end this curse for everyone"
Sweeps frowns as Robb claims he does not recall any Orientals in the Field Ward. Thoughts race through his head. Am I overturning the wrong rocks? Is it possible the individual behind the curse is not from the Far East, but knows of the Kotoribako by some other way?
He nods at Gabriel’s recommendation and moves to the door.”If you can stand it Sunny, it may help us find the box. It may also bring us back to the crow, so everyone be on your guard.”
