Sylvio turns slowly and stares at Amadi with a very harsh look. He’s astounded that the cleric would bring up the one topic most likely to irritate the guard. Nobles.
Sweeps moves forward when he sees the sign from Sylvio and stands behind him protectively, like a big brother. He arrives in time for the very end of the conversation and frowns as he hears Sylvio’s last words. “Favor, what kind of favor?”
“Five of you?” The man said half surprised. “What in the Nine Hells did you find by here that smeared you to this point?” He mentioned gesturing to your clothes. “I’ll need the exact location.”
Sylvio, it was strange for you to notice that, for once, Rick looked like a proper guard asking about a dangerous event. Demanding your cooperation rightfully. You knew, of course, that his intentions were not truly noble. His reputation preceded any such notion. To you it was quite clear that a veteran like One-Eyed understood that if you were sent to work for nobles you were skilled and that not just anything could leave five skilled hired hands to be dirtied and hurt. Something big was happening. Something that could spell trouble for his operations under the table.
“Nothing new happening on the city or with the highborn, as far as I know. But it is Waterdeep, so there should be at least five worlds ending conspirations going on somewhere.” Rick answered Amadi, then turned his attention to Sweeps, that echoed the rogue’s question. “Here is the thing. I don’t have anything that I need you to do at this exact moment. But there will be a time when I will want your services. When this moment arrive I will call upon you and you will answer, no matter the job. Of course, you may consider this a little too much for the favor you are asking me. After all, and I already told you point-eared friend here as much, you are not being hunted by the city authorities. But you ran from a reason, you know nobles have their own men at arms. They are sure to hunt you and some of them, you can bet your asses, are just a strong as military’s finest. I’m talking swordsman who can literally attack four times in a second, assassins capable to kill you without you as much as noticing their presence. You don’t want to risk being found by this folk and I don’t want to get close to your big green friend if I can avoid. Son of a ***** is sharp and honest. He would happily put a noose around my neck. So, you see, my help keeps you where you want keeping you lives as safe as they can be while bring a fair share of risks to myself. On this context I would say a favor for a favor is a fair deal.”
Notes: Rick waits for the group's response: will you accept his terms or decline? Sunny and Chewy, you notice that no one seems particularly interested in your group. Any doubt, feel free to ask on the OOC chat and apologies for the delay. Next update will come after everyone's posts at least one time.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Sylvio looks closely at Rick and tried to determine if he is lying to them. (Insight check: 14)
”Excusa, Sylvio would like to-a discuss your offer with-a the others.”
He then leads the group over several feet to have a quick conversation. “What-a do you think? Sylvio does-a not trust this-a man and does not-a want to be in-a his debt. Do we-a need him to-a take this message to Ironwood-a? We have-a learned that we are-a not wanted by the city so could see-a the captain ourselves.”
Sunny eyes Rick then nods to Sylvio. "Perhaps it is a risk we should take. Let us seek out the Captain ourselves. If Rick has work for us later I will consider it and it's risk." She scratches Chewy behind the ears to cheer herself, but the day has been long and her spirit weary.
Keeping his face passive Amadi moves with the others to discuss their options. With the considerations given Amadi speaks for a moment to the others telepathically.
I tried to read to read his mind, but the spell was blocked somehow. He likely has some sort of magically infused item that protects him from having spells like that cast on him. Rick would make a powerful enemy, we must try not to cross him, but also try to negotiate a better deal. He would sell us out for certain.
Sylvio nods to Amadi. “A powerful enemy-a, but a powerful ally as-a well-a. It’s is-a not Sylvio’s wish to-a anger this-a man but-a he has-a an idea.” He looks to Sweeps and Gabriel “And-a what do you think-a? Sylvio does-a not want to take-a the risk and put-a us all in possible danger without-a chance to dissent.”
Sweeps grunts and crosses his arms across his chest, his maul on the ground by his side. “Sounds like we don’t need him. If the guards aren’t looking for us, we can go to Ironwood ourselves. Still, I would hate for him to sell us out to the nobles. Go with your idea, let’s see what happens.” He nods to Sylvio.
Sylvio nods as the majority of the group agrees with his plan and asks Amadi “Would-a you be willing to grant Sylvio a blessing-a?”
He then walks back to Rick. “You have-a spoken plainly to Sylvio and-a his friends so Sylvio will-a speak plainly to you. You are a man to be-a respected and so-a we have taken your-a proposal seriously. You have-a traded us good information and-a counsel for which we are-a grateful. But-a, we wish to offer a counter proposal. As-a you say, the city watch is-a not after us so there is-a no reason for you to call for-a our green friend-a. We would-a not want you to expose-a yourself to undue risk-a. And-a to be honest with-a you, Sylvio and-a his friends do not wish-a to be in your-a debt. It-a doesn’t matter to-a Sylvio how a person makes a living-a but your-a business… is-a little dangerous.”
”Let-a us offer you this-a. Investigate-a the troll yard, send-a the report to the-a good captain. Tell-a him nothing but-a the truth. Sylvio and-a his friends approached you and-a you investigated the site-a. The corpses should-a be enough to warrant such a report-a. I am-a sure a man with-a your talents can-a use such a situation to-a his advantage. Perhaps-a buy some-a good will or-a promotion from-a the captain. But-a you will have-a done your-a job well, and even-a the most honorable captain cannot-a find fault-a with that.”
”You will-a also see what-a Sylvio and-a his friends are capable of.” And he grins wickedly, “While-a Sylvio does not-a wish to be in-a your debt, he is-a willing to work with-a you in a more-a… collaborative manner-a. Perhaps when-a you see what we have-a done… you will-a find use of-a our services… as-a partners.”
”Finally… as-a to the nobles… we-a thank you for-a the… warning. It will-a be up to us-a to find a solution to-a that… problem. Perhaps-a when you see what-a we are capable of… you will-a have ideas on how… useful and profitable, Sylvio and-a his friends are… alive.”
Sweeps remains standing behind Sylvio with his arms crossed, glowering at Rick. He really couldn’t keep up with exactly what Sylvio was saying to the guard, but as long as Rick understood that was all that matters. Sweeps just tried to nod at the right times to add weight to Sylvio’s words, especially the part where they stayed alive.
Sunny too believes it all to be a bit complicated for her mind to sort, but she trusts in Sylvio's skill of negotiation and supports the actions of the group.
Gabriel tries to keep track of Sylvio's conversation but the language escapes the warlock. He hopes that they can clear their name, in order to do more good for the city.
“Look, you know how things work on this side of the city. We show value upfront and promises about something one might come to see are not enough to drive a bargain.” He says unimpressed, but also visibly not angry. Maybe it was the effect of the coins at the start, but he don’t see to think the conversation is a waste of time. “The warning was part of my sales pitch and covered by our exchange of courtesies. Now, if you want me to put any good word about you lot it will cost twenty gold the head, here and now. To put no word about you, should someone ask, it will cost double that.” You, Sylvio, understand that Rick silence would come free of charge if you had accepted his offer. That or he would have you sold to your pursuers. With types like him one could never be sure. “I have no work for anyone. Not now. Just thought useful to have some daredevils on my debt for the future, but you are free to walk from this. I won’t go after your group, and you know where to find me if you need any favor. What I will have to press is the matter of the bodies. You tell me where they are exactly, I don’t make me use of the whole ‘guard authority’ crap, we both go our ways without a scratch.”
On Rick’s words lies a threat, anyone can see. If you refuse to tell the location of the boedies on the ward he will force the information out of you. Or at least he will try. That would mean having to face all the guards around. Even that much, you know, may not be enough. Each of you, adventurers, is sure to be far stronger than your average gate guard. Not to mention you are confident on your ability to disappear in the crowd. The problem is that if things turn into a fight, even if you are not captured, you will have, this time for real, the city’s military chasing your group.
Notes: Rick waits for Sylvio's answer: will you tell where are the bodies or not? Given your passive perceptions everyone in the party knows the group is not being particularly observed. Any doubt, feel free to ask on the OOC chat. Next update will come after everyone's posts at least one time.

Amadi, seeing the motion to join Sylvio, approaches. He keeps his face neutral and then asks.
"How fairs the city and its nobles?"

(question in OOC for me)
As Rick turns his attention to Sweeps Amadi quietly casts Detect Thoughts on Rick to learn the surface thoughts of this man.
