“Sylvio does not think that-a captain Ironwood will-a come. Or if-a he does, it will be to arrest Sylvio and-a his friends.” He shakes his head. “What Ironwood needs is-a to find the truth before he can arrest us. If we-a tell Rick to have the guards investigate, he will-a have no choice but to report-a the carnage to superiors. If he-a knows that we were-a the ones who fought the creatures… that will-a be reported to the superiors as well. Especially if-a we give Rick-a some coin. Ironwood will eventually hear that-a we fought and-a saved the people here.” He shrugs “It is-a only an idea.”
"My concern is that we are in the Field Ward. The Watch doesn’t patrol this area, the Guard only watches the walls. They will not send the Watch here and the guard will not leave the walls. The poor are left to their own justice here. Which is why the box was buried here. There is no law to look into it. Even the Dungsweepers’ Guild does not venture here. Perhaps this man can be paid to send word to Captain Irownwood to meet us at the gates. He may venture into the Field Ward at our request but the Watch will not send anyone to investigate anything we report here." Amadi answers.
"Yes," Sunny nods, "a word to the Captain. Then perhaps if he'll meet us, we can show him what was found. We'll need the most convincing of us to do the speaking for it is an interesting tale."
After Sylvio shared his knowledge about One-Eye Rick and Amadi his, very much justified, worries, the group decide to move in the direction of the Troll Gate. You leave Clare cooking and walk towards the northern wall of the city. As you do, you hear myriad of sounds. Children laughing, playing on the dirt roads, running out of the way of the occasional cart. Ten minutes on your way you see half a dozen small tables outdoor, where men, from young to old aged, started to drink already. Their voices are loud, carrying tall tales and telling obscene jokes. Simple folk, poor folk, far from good mannered, but not inherently bad. Folk that was likely to never know, but you protect. Saved even. A small victory, considering that, and you knew as much, the true mastermind behind the kotoribako remained unknown. Still a victory and you felt a sense of accomplishment.
The closer to the gate you walked the greater was the number of voices. Carts and pack animals become and more of a common sight. Before long you could see travelers, coming and going, running towards the Troll almost like blood inside of the veins of a man. That was an entrance into the City of Splendors alright. You could see guards standing guard all the way to the Trollfort. Even the keep, that at this point you were used to see from behind, old and dirty, looked almost presentable from this side. It was nothing as impressive as the North Gate, from where traders came from the Silver Marshes. Most coming from Neverwinter preferred entering there too. Better kept, better manned, better guarded. The Lords could not afford to lose coin everywhere.
Fifty feet. That is the where the guard closest to you stood. You don’t know if it was because you were hidden or because those man at arms simply didn’t care for someone coming from the Field Ward, but no one seemed to react to your presence. Yet.
Notes: You take around fifteen minutes to reach the area around the Troll Gate. The closest guard is fifty feet from the group and you all seem unnoticed. To estimate how many guards are around you would need to do a Perception Check (DC 19). If any of you decide to remain unseen, roll a Stealth Check (DC 15). Each character can only make one check, not both. Feel free to attempt something else and in case of any doubt feel free to ask on the OOC chat.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Sweeps looks around at the guards, blending in as one more laborer among many in the streets. “I guess we will find out if the nobles have spread their search for us to the gates. Do you think Rick really has just one eye, or does the name refer to something else?”
Aware of the presence of guards each and every one of you scout the area. Sylvio and Gabriel notice the presence of two soldier besides the city side of the gate and three at its center, stopping all those who want to enter Waterdeep. By the entrance of the Trollfort another two sentinels stand guard. Amadi notice as much, but also notice four other watchmen atop the gate. Being a blacksmith the follower of Gond know two of them are meant to shoot anyone trying to run from the Crown of the North while the others are to snipe anyone trying to invade. Sunny and Sweeps see more than that. They notice that outside of the Troll Gate another two men stand guard and five other men at arms patrol the way between the gate and the keep. Well, patrol is a strong term. They are walking between the two buildings with visibly bored expressions. If nothing else, you are sure nothing extraordinary happened on any of their days. Chewy is alert and notice no one approaching you. Or even observing you.
There was something of absurd on the fact, after all so many large monsters spread death and disease on the Field Ward not even two hours earlier. And you, you were runaways framed for the noble children murders. How could those troops in front of not be alert? How could they not be paying attention to the exit of what was, beyond any doubt, the best place for an outlaw to hide on the entirety of the metropolis? You knew they didn’t care about the poor, but noble killers should be quite the prize, no? The barbarian then makes a fair question – did Rick’s alias come from the fact that he was one-eyed? Before Sylvio, who knew that to be the case, could answer, genasi and tortle notice that out of the three guards stopping the newcomers the older looking of them was a human. Male, skin tanned by the sun and wavy hair made gray by age. His beard was short boxed and unkept, his clothes carried the green of the watch, but no yellow. His left eye was covered by curls.
Notes: Sylvio and Gabriel notice the presence of seven soldiers. Amadi of thirteen. Sunny and Sweeps notice a total of eighteen guards, one by the gate looking suspiciously like someone you would call one-eyed. None of the members of the Watch seem to be looking for you or anything else, really. If any of you decide to remain unseen, roll a Stealth Check (DC 15). Feel free to attempt something else and in case of any doubt feel free to ask on the OOC chat.
Sunny leans to Sweeps and whispers, "Could the male in green up ahead be the Rick One-Eye you seek?" Then trods slightly ahead of the group to check for their reaction to her.
Sylvio, I believe you intended to seek out this man and speak to him on our behalf? You seem to be most skilled in persuasion. He will need to be bribed I am sure, I have gold for such a thing.
Sylvio looks to the indicated man and accepts the coin. “Sylvio will approach this-a Rick.”
He then pulls up his hood and walks towards the man. He attempts to be unassuming and blend in with the crowd. He does not wish to draw attention towards himself but also not looking like he’s hiding either.
As he approaches the guard he speaks up “Sir, are you-a the one known as-a Rick one-eye?”
As Sylvio take the first steps towards the one-eyed man tension raises in the air. All of you cannot help but to look at some of the surrounding guards. Sunny, Sweeps and Amadi, the more keen eyed in general and at this moment, search for signs of recognition. Maye one of the soldiers would point at Scarpaldi, maybe simply fixate eyes on him, noticing in the elf a prize, a wanted criminal. Maybe noticing one they would look for the other four. Find them, capture them. It was always possible and there were so many men-at arms. Survival instinct and reason for once spoke with the same voice, you would need to run if that was the case. The rogue was halfway to the gate when... Nothing happened.
Not one of the watchmen so much as looked at him, or at you, for that matter. They seemed busy with their own tedious routines. Sylvio reached the gate and nothing happened. No one there knew there was a reward on your heads. That was the only possible explanation. Either way, the Swasbuckler talks to the older human.
Looking at him the elf notice the marks on his armor. The leather was worn by time and the steel was scarred and dent. On the left side he carried a greatsowrd. This man is not a veteran simply by age. He is a experimented warrior on his own right. As he turns to face you, Sylvio, you notice his single eye measuring you up. A hard expression on the man's face.
"Depends on who is asking." His voice is hoarse, and carried no interest or patience. "And if there is light." You immediately recognize Thieve's Chant. With the last words the man is asking if you have coin to pay. You are fairly sure this is Rick.
Notes: None of the members of the Watch seem to be looking for you or anything else, really. If any of you decide to remain unseen, roll a Stealth Check (DC 15). Feel free to attempt something else and in case of any doubt feel free to ask on the OOC chat.

Sylvio grins at Rick and replies in thieve’s cant. “Light can-a be found in the darkest corner if-a you know where to look.” He hands Rick 15 gold. “A group of-a merchants was recently hired by-a the city watch to deliver goods from-a the nobles. There was a horrible misunderstanding in-a the transaction and an innocents death occurred when a third party disrupted-a the trade. The nobles, being both-a blind and angry, blamed the merchants though they were innocent. Aggressive-a trade was necessary to-a end-a the transaction.”
He glances towards the trollyard and continues “The merchants decided to-a continue their trade elsewhere and-a restore their reputation. The third party was-a found and-a their deals were completed… though the leader of-a the third party remains unknown. The work was-a completed at-a great cost in-a the troll yard and-a there may be scraps left. A wise-a guard such as-a yourself may bring-a light to the scene with-a help from-a others. Perhaps near-a the base of-a the iron wood tree? The merchants wish-a to complete their trade-a and-a there are no more deals in-a the trollyard. Have-a you heard this story before-a?”
Using Thieve’s cant, Sylvio explains the situation to Rick. They were hired by the city watch to do a job with nobles. Someone interfered and there was a death by some sort of horrible monster. They were blamed but are innocent and had to escape quickly from the nobles. They went after the culprits. They found them and put an end to their plans in the troll yard but they don’t yet know who is responsible for it all. He also suggests and asks If Rick can investigate the remains of the battle and indicates that there might be a reward for finding and investigating such a massacre, he also let him know that everyone in the trollyard is dead or gone. Captain Ironwood he named in particular and wants him to be summoned so they can plead their case and show evidence of what occurred, suggesting that Hightower was the one who hired them.
At the end he asks if he has any word about any of this, wanting to know if they are being searched for or if word of their actions has gotten around. He’s curious if they are wanted or if the guards are looking for them.
“Indeed it can.” Said the old human. His expression softening if only a little. Sylvio knew his type. Hard men, harsher men, greedy man. No simile was necessary for to Rogue to know he had the attention and sympaty of the grey-haired soldier. “I heard something about smog in the Sea Ward. Guess you and your friends were blown by good winds around there.” Scarpaldi understood what the soldier in front of him meant – there was a fire at the Gundwynd Villa and he understood a group of hired help, including the elf, where involved. “If I were to guess I would say the merchants were dealing in pest control. Something to deal with cats eating shining birds, eh?” A knowing smile took hold of the one-eyed man. His worlds translated on the believe that Swasbuckler and friends where hired to deal with the killer of the noble children. One of the human’s teeth had a shine that any jeweler worth his salt would identify as platinum. “Don’t know how the misunderstanding happened, but their reputation was not tarnished. At least until now there’s no ill talk of them.” Sylvio almost couldn’t believe his ears. They were not wanted. That would explain why no watchmen reacted to them, but why wouldn’t the Gudwynd denounce them? “I can look around here. Considering your clothes are still dirty from work it should take me no time find anything, but iron wood is a dangerous thing to thing. Large trunk, strong, but too straight and can smell from miles.” Ironwood was not only physically imposing, but smart and honest. The kind Rick would rather stay away from. “You would need a lot of light to reach that. Maybe even to pay in favor.”
Notes: None of the members of the Watch seem to be looking for you or anything else, really. If any of you decide to remain unseen, roll a Stealth Check (DC 15). Feel free to attempt something else and in case of any doubt feel free to ask on the OOC chat.
Gabriel cannot help himself fixing his attention on Sylvio's conversation, their futures may revolve around the rogue's ability to sell their story to the soldier.
Sunny moves to the side of the roadway, nearer the group but waiting for a signal that all is safe for approach. Reaching in her pack, she retrieves a bit of jerky for the hungry dog to chew on and small metal tin to pour some water from her waterskin into. The poor animal must be as hungry as she, but food will be handled soon. As she kneels to tend to her furry friend, she gazes subtly at the crowd. Constantly aware.
