"They seem to be sound asleep in the next room." Ludolf whispers to the others. He then assists Daventry with her investigation. "Even though I fear these sharp-toothed creatures could be evil to the core I'm not ready kill them in their sleep. How should we play this Daventry? Perhaps they might surrender?" He whispers to Daventry, ready to follow her, to whatever end.
Triäsa will HELP Daventry with Investigating if needed. Otherwise, she holds back and waits, very unfamiliar with storming a building like this. (Though if she rolled, it would likely be really high and she'd look like an expert!)
(Sounds like onward to the next room then?! :) ) Everyone please make new stealth rolls if you enter this room. If you all decide to back away no rolls needed.
Daventry creeps toward the door to the north and slowly pushes it open just a bit. The room is black, complete and utter darkness with no windows or candles to illuminate the room you are blind. The only thing you can notice is the ever so faint flicker of candlelight escaping from underneath a door to the north east. The room smells more like a stable than a home and the sound of snoring intensifies as you open the door.
Those with darkvision:
More like a wide corridor than an actual room, this long and crowded space is occupied by six narrow cots. In each of the cots lies a humanoid figure that appears to be sleeping soundly. There is no other furniture or other items of interest. You see two doors along the northern wall one to the east with a hint of light escaping from it and one to the west that is dark.

Daventry tries to silently close the door again after her peek, whispering to the others, "I can't see a damned thing in there... But there is definitely SOMETHING sleeping in there..."

"Well, two ways to try this. Tri... you're the only one who can see a damn thing in the dark. Either you go in as a sneak and try to very quietly tie up a bunch of blood-hungry beasties..." (assuming Pardot told us of his insights into them)
Daventry looks from the bard to the druid. "Or we go with a smash and surprise. Kick open the door, Pardot sets off his stardust, and we rush in demanding a quick surrender under the authority of the Investigation Agency."Under her breath, "We just won't say which one."
"It's risky, and could lead to a fight if they're not inclined to talk or give up. But if we're thinking these folk are responsible for at least two murders, and an attempt at a third via a husked Ludolf, then this fight might be inevitable. Ludolf, you can be the voice of authority... I'll be in the front."
Triäsa whispers, "Six humanoids, each in a cot. You didn't see that?" She does not seem to immediately consider others in the party can't see. "So just sneak past to the door without light?"
Once she realized neither Daventry nor anyone else could see that, she describes the two doors along the northern wall, with a hint of light from the northeast one.
Daventry glances around. "Good news is... we've not got anyone clomping around in heavy armor. But... I'd be worried about leaving potential murderers at our back, were we to make it past... and I don't know if I could avoid stepping on anything if I can't see anything."
“I can coat them in star dust,” Pardot says, even more quietly than normal, continuing, “Though they may wake when I send it to them.”((The spell is V, I’m not sure how loud that would be exactly, or how deep they are sleeping…))“I don’t think we’ll all be able to just sneak by them unfortunately…”
Daventry seems to be running the numbers in her head. "Seven versus five... if we struck without hesitation and made good use of an ambush, we'd probably be able to even the odds." She looks at the others, assessing them as much as her own capabilities. "But that's unlikely how this will play out, huh? If we give them a chance to get their bearings, the fight becomes much harder. And... we don't know enough, except these folk are both creepily not-human and are involved with the soul-sucker. Maybe Triäsa's right. We see if we can find out more info from what Pardot saw and come back when half are at the Wide..."
"As much as I'd prefer us not acting as executioners, these sharp-toothed creatures are likely responsible for several deaths by summoning those life-draining shapeshifters, and as such they must be stopped. As we can't expect help from the local authorities it would be up to us to mete out suitable justice. Our objective should be getting the original tomes and making sure no more summoning can take place. If we give ourselves the upper hand with Pardot's stardust I could possibly convince them to surrender." Ludolf says quietly to the others. "Ready when you are."
Pardot nods and looks to the rest of the group. If everyone else seems in agreement* that this is the best option, he pulls his shield from his back, takes a deep breath, and first looks to Ludolf saying, speak well. He then looks into the room and says, “별빛” in Druidic ((dex 14 if they can make saves while sleeping)), causing those whom it affects to glow in a dark sparkling violet. He then quickly steps back and as far away from the door as possible.
*Just queueing this up since this appears where things are headed. If someone disagrees they can stop Pardot before he casts Faerie Fire
"Alright..."Daventry breathes in and out, setting her mind, and drawing her blade, back to the wall. Once Pardot's spell goes off, she rushes in, shield raised and feet set in a defensive posture.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
As Daventry rushes into the room, now flooded with starlight, Ludolf steps up behind her adressing the sharp-toothed creatures. "Stay still and no harm will come to you!" Ludolf begins in a commanding tone, towering above the creatures laying on the floor below him. "As you can see we have the tactical advantage and we will use lethal force if necessary." Brief pause. "We are agents sent from Candlekeep to retrieve three tomes that you have in your possession but should rightfully belong in our great library. You'd do well to cooperate with us, our superiors in Candlekeep are very thorough regarding their books as you might imagine." He finishes awaiting the response of the sharp-toothed creatures.
Intimidation: 24 assuming help from someone. + guidance 3 + inspiration if given by Triäsa 3 for at least 26!
The spell goes off causing the room to take on a vibrant purple hue as each creature succumbs to the affects (unconscious creatures auto-failing dex checks). As the creatures are awoken by Ludolf's commanding voice they are clearly caught off guard by the five intruders and mystical surroundings. Four of the six turn over too quickly and fall to the floor prone to scared to move. The other two slowly raise their hands in submission.
The partially illuminated door to the north east quickly swings open and the women who identified herself as Korvala at the shop enters the room. "What is going on. Who dares break into our home in the middle of the night. We have done nothing wrong!" She looks over you all and recognizes you from earlier, "I knew you all didn't seem right. I don't know what you think we have but Candlekeep has plenty of books they have no need for ours unless they are paying like everyone else. Now put away your weapons we have no desire for violence." She does not seem afraid at all but is clearly protective of the others as she slowly moves to position herself between Daventry and her housemates.

"Oh but I do think you have done something wrong, something very wrong Korvala. Three books bought here, Fallen Tethyamar, Mazfroth's Mighty Digressions and The Dark Hunger have found their way to Candlekeep but turned out to be very dangerous forgeries responsible for several deaths and I know that you know what I am talking about Korvala. The interest of Candlekeep is to acquire the actual books which we know you are in possession of. Turn them over and there will be no need for bloodshed or exposing your little operation to the authorities. I hear the Flaming fist could deal out harsh punishments to those who can't afford more than this." Ludolf says indicating the hovel they stand in. "Make up your mind quickly Korvala, or the creatures behind you that you clearly seek to protect will pay the price."
