"Perhaps we should investigate the village now and try to find a secure place to rest. Tomorrow we could try to find that mine and Chalet Brantifax." Ludolf suggests as they walk into Vermeillon, wary of threats. Meanwhile Edgar soars over the village, also scouting for dangers.
"I agree, we should try and scout out much of the village as we can while we still have light. I suppose a camping spot a bit away from the town would be best? The book said people disappeared even while watches were being kept. So we all need to be wary. I think sticking close together is best." Triäsa says. She walks a few steps along the road, looking at the buildings. "Maybe glance at the buildings along this middle roadway. Then take a peek at that larger building on the north end."
She turns back to look at the others and see what they suggest.

"Maybe we can find some hints of what happened here." Pardot says, as he starts walking through the village looking around ((11)). "Should we check out that big building at the end? Or maybe some of the houses on the way?"
You walk north into the village. The mist swirls around your feet coalescing with each step. Similarly the clouds above grow thicker creating a strange, unnatural darkness. Most of the homes and buildings you pass are crumbling husks of what appears to have once been a very pleasant, thriving community. Among the crumbling walls you see rotting furniture overgrown with vines and weeds nothing escaping the ravages of time and the elements. Nothing but two structures which seem a bit more solid and mostly intact.
Both these buildings lie just to the west of the main road. The first appears to be a blacksmith, A faded placard above the door reads "The Wand and Hammer." Just to the north of this building is another structure that is in a bit better condition than most. Though the roof is caved in and the door lies in tatters of what appears to be a stone mason's home. There are multiple headstones littering the front of the structure in varying stages of creation. Just near the pathway is a headstone engraved with, "Tiris Frosthair, Stonemason. Inquire at Back"
At the end of the road you pass a large, bare tree. The large building appears to be the Mayor's residence. While time and extreme weather have taken it's toll on the building, the large structure seems much more durable than the smaller structures in the rest of the village.
As you consider your next move, you are surprised by a sudden, loud crash from one of the buildings just to your east. A nondescript ruin of someone's former home.

Walking through the quiet town carefully looking around, Pardot nearly jumps out of his boots at the sound of the crash coming from the east. He quickly takes a deep breath, looks around, and dashes to the nearest building off to the side where he can look in the direction of the noise to see if he can see or hear anything else.

"Pardot, running off by yourself is a bad idea!"Thinking of the stories in the book of how people just disappeared the moment someone glanced away or let them out of their sight, Triäsa tries to run after him.
Pardot didn't run far. Just dashing off enough to hide and make sure he was safe from the crash. Once Triäsa comes near he says, "I saw something move from where the sound came from. Not sure what it was though." He then cautiously comes out of hiding and will follow the others whichever way they choose to first investigate.

Ludolf directs Edgar to scan from above, trying to locate the screaming woman. "Pardot, could you tell if it was humanoid or a beast of some sort?" Triäsa asks. She looks towards the area Pardot seemed to see the motion to see if she can spot anything.

"There was a scream too. I do not think we should split up. So it is one or the other we follow," she states, looking back towards the others.
Pardot -- you are not sure what it was but you definitely saw something darting between buildings. It seemed humanoid... but definitely not human.
Edgar -- He searches quickly but does not see any sign of a damsel in distress. In fact he doesn't see anything at all in the region where the scream came from.
Triäsa -- you scan the area not seeing anything out of the ordinary just rubble. As your gaze looks over a dusty and worn window you see a reflection in the dirty glass. While you expect to see yourself you see something else entirely. You see your mother. You see her as clearly as in your dream. She is staring back at you, a panic look in her eyes. She opens her mouth to scream but no sound passes her lips . The meaning is unmistakable, "Help Me!" She pleads. You blink in reflex and as you open your eyes you see nothing but your own tired, dirty face staring blankly back at you.

Triäsa runs over to the window as quickly as she can. "Mom! Where are you?" she calls out loudly, her voice a bit panicked. Once at the window, she tries to look through, desperately wanting to find some clue.

"The more I think about it the more I'm convinced that the scream was meant to scare or separate us, and that it was made by an entity or entities responsible for the disappearances. I think the rational course of action would be to ignore any such distractions and instead try to find clues as to what happened here, starting with this blacksmith." Ludolf suggests, moving towards the blacksmith, hoping the others will follow. Perception: 8 Investigation: 9 Meanwhile Edgar scans for movements from above: 15
"What is it Triäsa? Did you see your mother?" Ludolf hurries up to her side. "If you did, I'm quite certain it wasn't her, just an illusion to scare you or lure you somewhere." He hesitantly lays a comforting hand on Triäsa's shoulder.
"I could see her clearly. And it was not a dream! I could not hear her, but she needed my help!" Triäsa is clearly agitated. Though not disputing Ludolf's comment, she sounds certain she actually saw her mother.
"Yes, a very convincing illusion, but not only that, whatever created it could somehow sense your loss of your mother, somehow gain access to your memories. I don't want to scare anyone with this but I still believe we should try to ignore images and sounds like these if there's more of them. And I would be very surprised if there wasn't. In fact logically we could all expect visions or sounds related to our fears or sorrows." Ludolf goes on, but then he realizes again the distress of the half-elven bard. "I'm sorry Triäsa, it must have been harrowing for you to see her here." He says, still awkwardly trying to comfort Triäsa.

@Pardot -- You think you see just the hint of movement scurrying from the building heading toward ruins of another building just to the north of it.
As Pardot rushes to the east and hides you all hear a desperate women scream for help somewhere to the west.
