“Ah Ms Galadon,” the old dragonborn sighs, “You are very much like your mother. Polite, eager and very motivated to accomplish your goals. I was very disappointed when she decided to leave Candlekeep to continue her work at the Vault of Sages.”He leans over his desk and opens the top drawer pulling out five ornate broaches which places on the desk near you all. The broaches are a finely fashioned silver in the shape of an open book with dragon wings. After laying them out he goes to a cabinet removes five glasses and a decanter of the dark liquid and start pouring each of you a glass.
“I am sorry for my manners. I get rather wrapped up in my work sometimes and the pleasantries of a situation sometimes escape me but please have a drink.” The drink has a very strong smokey scent to it and it burns your nostrils as the fumes reach them. “As for your request the answer is no. I am sorry just no.” He says curtly, “You are not ready to enter the Inner Sanctum perhaps someday you will but that day is not today.”He then gestures to the objects on the desks and continues, “I can offer you these. These pins will identify you as someone working with me and allow you access in and out of Candlekeep without restriction. They are unique and I have not given them to anyone in a 50 years and I have no intention of taking them back once your work is complete.”
“As for the task I would ask... In the last two months we have had two people die of very unusual circumstances. Perhaps you have heard whispers but these two individuals were drained of their very life essence. We need to know what happened to them.” He then takes another drink from his glass and coughs as he places the glass down. “We do not have a lot to work on though… I am afraid the only bit peculiarity is were each missing a book that was assigned to them. One was studying warlocks and various obscure cults while the other was interested in ancient dwarven civilizations. The missing books are The Dark Hunger and Fallen Tethyamar both very new additions to the collection but quiet rare. There were no witnesses to either death, one took place in a study room in the Pillars and the other in a private room at the House of Rest. Both sites were search completely without any clues other than the missing books. I would ask you to figure out what happened and if possible recover the books.”

Daventry takes the drink, and gives it an appreciative nod. (I take it's basically Fantasy Scotch? :D) "Thank you, Bookwyrm. So, with this pin, I can leave these grounds and return without needing to pay another rare tome?" She picks up one of the five and slowly turns it in her fingers, examining the pin in detail. "Given the price of entry, this is quite the gift."
As he explains his task, she looks up to Triasa. "Seems like your rumor was right on the money, Tri. Good ear." Looking back to Bookwyrm, "Strange connection, at least in the subjects those scholars were studyin'... unless anyone has heard of any ancient dwarven cults? The stockier folk tend to not be much on that sort of thing, from my experience." She pauses a moment, thinking if any of the dwarven traders passing through Wyrwood had ever mentioned something like that.

"Do you know anything else about the two books, besides the titles? Who donated 'em, perhaps? Or at least know which sage might have catelogued 'em, so we can speak to 'em?"
Ludolf nods politely as the request is denied, looking over at Triäsa, hoping she will take it well. "Quite a gift indeed." Ludolf says, taking one of te broaches and fastening it on his grey leather coat before taking a glass of dark liquid, taking a sip. "Ahh, excellent."
History to determine brand of liquor: 17
"Although the books in question clearly has very different subjects they should be our best clue to solving this. There has to be a connection, we just have to find out what it is and simple deduction will take us to the doorstep of this mysterious killer."Ludolf says confidently after hearing the Bookwyrms briefing. "I presume you have some sort of register over who wrote the books, who took them here and who has been reading them in Candlekeep." He adds, just missing a pipe and a small stupid hat to complete the appearance of Faerûns greatest detective.
Arcana to recall facts on the entity Hadar:24 which definitely sounds like it would interest Ludolf.
Triäsa smiles at the mention of her mother and hides any disappointment at her request being denied. She picks up a broach and fastens it to her cloak. "So with this broach we can come and go from Candlekeep whenever we wish? Would we still have access to research assistance? Not that we have received all that much help thus far." This last statement is made very matter-of-factly, nothing accusatory about it nor any tone of complaint.
"I think we will need to know more about the victims. Name, race, where they were from, how long here, and... anything else you might know. I presume they were both Seekers," she adds.
Bookwyrm thinks about your questions, "Yes it would certainly be good to know more... I have a list here somewhere... let me see..."He mutters and rummages around through the papers on his desk. He smiles a bit as he finds about 7 pages of documents. "These are the logs of all the books we have collected over the last six months as part of an individuals entry."
Looking over the documents you find your names and the name of your submissions:
The ledger indicates Barmus' stay has expired while Valor and Yalerion should still be in the keep. Mazforth's Mighty Digressions is the newest book on the list besides the ones you have brought.
"The victims were a drow who went by the name Szind Auvrytlar and the other a dwarf Kramnam Febronurr. We don't know anything else about the victims, they had little to no possessions like most of our Seekers. As far as which sage collected and delivered the books I unfortunately do not have that information here. Fembris, would you mind investigating which of the Avowed were assigned to our victims? Should be a trivial task for you."Fembris nods eagerly happy to be included in the investigation.
"You still have access to all the resources of the Keep you currently have but now you can come and go as you please and as long as you are helping me you can stay here as long as you like." He smiles widely knowing this gift is priceless and there are many who kill for such a privilege.
@Ludolf
The drink reminds you of something your uncle used to have at night while reading. He said it was a malt made from barley and was apparently very rare and expensive. You don't remember the name just that it was made for sipping and if you drank more than a glass you would have a terrible headache in the morning.
You recall that the Dark Hunger was another moniker for Hadar. Hadar is one of the Elder Evils of the Far Realm and is often associated with a star that would dance across the sky unpredictably. Books and knowledge is exceptionally rare and only someone who has spent time a library such as your uncles would have any chance of knowning this.
At this point Bookwyrm looks a bit more serious for a second as he turns to Ludolf, "Mr Crowley, how is your uncle? I never met him but his collection is well known. If he was ever interested in parting with it the Keep would be very interested in purchasing it. Do you share his interests?"
