Eider sits on the third floor, noticing it is less active and a bit quieter than the rest of the Glory he's experienced. With maybe Toren's reserved area being the exception. He sits and ponders the possibilities with his growing arcane prowess. The things he can do now. The people he can protect. New mages to be taught to understand. He thinks on all of this while watching the days fights and awaiting any possible geusts. To pass the time he asks a Bartender if anyone up here would like to play a game of chess.

Eider, Level 13 Human Abjurer Wizard - Colosseum of Conquest (11W-3L) (Tougher than he looks)
Currently playing in: Quest for the Shunned City, Coliseum of Conquest, DragonDenn's Dragonlords, Shipwrecked on Fugue, Tomb of Annihilation, Razor's Lost Mine of Phandelver, The Lost Kenku & One Grung Above
Currently DMing: Princes of the Apocalypse, Out of the Abyss, Coliseum of Conquest—The Arena (Sometimes)
(In my personal experience, I've seen two styles of play: One is the calculation and board reading you mentioned. The other is trying to mind game your opponent into making moves you want them to and also trying to read what their next move might be. Regardless of that, the guys who come to challenge you aren't some expert chess players so it doesn't really matter which style they use.)
First Match VS NPC: NPC doesn't really know anything about chess except the basic rules. He makes random moves and ends up winning through sheer dumb luck.
2nd Match VS NPC2: NPC2 walks in confidently and it seems he is winning... except it turns out it was all a trap by Eider and NPC2 ends up doing exactly what the wizard wanted him to. Needless to say, NPC2 lost.
3rd Match VS Og: It's a close match but Og's unpredictable and sometimes irrational moves throw Eider for a loop and the Paladin takes the victory.
4th Match VS NPC3: NPC3 is confident in his ability to mind game. In the end, he mind games too hard and ultimately tricks himself into losing.
5th Match VS NPC4: Eider at this point, is a little off his game. The 4th NPC knew some basic tactics of Chess. After playing for a while NPC4 takes the victory with his simpler and more basic tactics.

Eider continues to play, enjoying friendly conversation, the relative quiet, and the contests of wit to pass the day.
(I agree @ZulkRS, so I suppose Investigation for my way, and Insight for the way you mentioned?)

Calgin nods.
(In the 3rd floor? Usually there's a bartender and servers. There are also non-VIP NPC customers. They are similar to the ones in the first floor.)
(Either Sora or Jimmop has trouble.)

Eider, you get some guys who would like to play chess.
Actually, a lot of people would like to play chess with you because you're the champion.
(Throughout the course of the day)
Chess match 1: 10
Chess match 2: 29
Chess match 3: 10
Chess match 4: 23
Chess match 5: 14
Eider gladly plays a match against any who approach him.
(I used Investigation as 100% of the game is calculation and investigating the board. #changemymind)

Eider sits there, equal parts impressed and confused. "Who sacrifices their queen as an opening move?! With all due respect thst was madness."

Og also seems rather confused.
"What's a queen?"
