"Thank you, for letting us accompany you, though we know very little of the surrounds. Is there anything you have need of, else we shall await you at the gates."
As they head towards the main gate Keun turns towards the other and asks, "So where to? Dverin did you say you heard about some caves to the east? Or maybe we should look for that cleric to the north?" He's almost bouncing as he walks along, "I've been thinking about bashing some goblins, so I'm a bit partial to the east myself."
" I've already finished breakfast. So no complaints. " Dorcas looks up at the sky. He sniffs the air and checks today's weather. " I recommend going east and looking for the raiders who attacked the caravans. We teamed up not so long ago, and haven't faced any tough opponents before. The cave on the east ate a lot of adventurers. Better have some practice first. What do you say?"
" I've already finished breakfast. So no complaints. " Dorcas looks up at the sky. He sniffs the air and checks today's weather. " I recommend going west and searching for the lost caravan. We teamed up not so long ago, and haven't faced any tough opponents before. The cave on the east ate a lot of adventurers. . Better have some practice first. What do you say?"
Caravans going east were attacked, but none have disappeared in a long time, but have been attacked
The road down from the Keep gives a good view of the plains ahead, but little of the dense forest north and south. As you travel along the road heading east, the sun sun warms the grass and the heavy dew disappears. About an hour into your journey Dverin notices something to the north (A), the flash of metal and the rustle of trees.
Unfortunately, the distance and the thick growth at the forests edge prevent you from seeing more. It's a great role, and I'll let you use it if you decide to investigate.
Dverin explains, "I could've sworn I saw something move in those trees," deliberates for all of a second, amd turning to the followers of Helm, says, "if it is your robbers, better to hurry after them, rather than get caught unawares." Turning to the party, he says, "and I don't think we have long to pontificate."
Keun readies his sword and looks to the trees that Dverin indicated. He moves to stand between the others and the trees as he says, "I am ready." He looks between his companions and the guards accompanying them, "Shall I charge into the trees or shall we try to meet them here at the road?" He is almost pacing in place as he says this, you can see the nerves on his face and in his voice.
Setting out at a lumbering run, you head for the the spot which Dverin has indicated. As you move towards the forest you notice that you are also climbing ever so slightly from the river valley.
The edge of the forest is a wall of tall honeysuckle bushes, their branches making a wall against easy entrance. After some searching Dverin is able to find a spot where the branches have had some leaves stripped away, and a spot where the leaves on the ground has been disturbed. In fact, it is an indentation where someone has made a habit of laying. Judging by the size and a boot print, it is probably humaniod. Boots have worn a winding path, like a game trail heading north.
Here, at the edge of the forest, the trees are predominately close, packed softwoods, their lower limbs dead from lack of light. Intermixed are the skeletal remains of dead honeysuckle bushes.
"We should take care, if we seek to enter. The mounted patrols from the Keep, do not penetrate the forest," Bart informs you.
Keun stands there wide-eyed, looking to the others. He looks between them for a bit and then finally says, "I think we should head in. If this is the bandits that have been attacking caravans, we need to help the keep by rousting them." Although he says this with determination, the look he gives you all afterwards shows his nerves.

Dorcas finishes climbing and catches up with the others. Huffing and puffing, wiping the sweat from his reddened face, the dwarf stretches back and says. " No patrol means a perfect home for bandits. Let me get in first. I'm not the fastest one, but probably the toughest one." Holding his shield high, Dorcas carefully walks up to the forest. He eyes the footprint then steps into the woods.

"After you then, friend," Dverin smiles, and while walking, adds, "what's the worst that can happen? Could just be some resting traveller, or meandering bum, or perhaps a marauding serial killer, or a sadistic and evil magelord on the run, or my aunt pappie, and she was quite the beast..."
After a few hundred yards, the forest begins to open as the lowest branches have long since died and dropped off. The path continues to be easy to follow through the dead pine needles which carpet the forest floor. As firs give way to maples, the trail becomes harder to follow and, though the light is dim you can now see for several hundred yards.
The trail now splits into 3 different branches. One continues to the north, and the other two go east and west respectively.

"Hold," Dverin alerts everyone, raising his right hand. He draws his bow with his left, peering into the distance.
[ Perception: 1d20 + perception (+3) + proficiency (perception) doubled for ranger's favorite terrain (forest...so +2 becomes +4).
Is this correct? If so, I roll 19 ]
