Thank you for your help Khaled. We'd likely have been outmatched without you.
Sheridan wanders off to look for some armour that his skinny frame might support and will then Create Bonfire somewhere it won't set the building on fire and read his Tome before falling into a trance-like state
About an hour passes where you treat you wounds and regain some of your strength. Oriki finds a nice pair of hand crossbows and bolts to go with them while Draskan snorts at the lack of decent heavy armour. You eventually get called by Kaled who was watching the prisoner. ‘Es wakin up. Time for you to ask yer questions
We know you're working with the fools who picked our faces to wear, don't waste our time and try to lie about it. Why did they pick us? Why did they slaughter everyone in that inn? And what in the hells are they trying to accomplish?
If you don't tell me what I want to know, I'll bring back the tendrils of darkness I hit you with in the alley. You remember them, don't you? You remember the crippling dread they made you feel? Just imagine what they'll do with all this time and space for me to work.
The guards eyes widen and a wet patch starts to spread from between his legs. I don’t know nuffin! Please I swear! The watch captain just told us that she had received word from the Kargat that armed and dangerous mercenaries were in the tavern and that they were killing civilians. That’s all I know I swear! I was surprised you decided to start killing on Dreadwyrm territory though
We killed nobody in that building. Nobody. Pretenders wore our faces and the last of them escaped because we were waylaid by you. Who or what are the Kargat and what do you know about the Dreadwyrm group?
The Dreadwyrm Group are the current crime syndicate that runs the docks. The Kargat are the secret police that Azalin Rex created to combat such a group. Since Rex’s disappearance the Baron runs it…
I fear Baron has screwed us over. How else could the Kargat have alerted the guard so quickly? If so, it means Constantin's death and the muddying of our names is on his hands.
The way I see it, we have several options:
We get out of town
We confirm my suspicions and then go after the Baron
We find the pretender Draskan and see if he can be turned against his master
We seek out the Dreadwyrm and make sure they don't hunt us for something we didn't do, then see if they will partner with us temporarily to get even.
I would very much like to find the imposter and extract answers from him, then we can deal with the baron and if need be I will watch his life drift away as I crush his skull
Problem you got with that is the Barons army of vampires, dhampirs, ghouls and assassins… Kaled interjects, You’re gonna need more than the three of you to get through them and I reckon probably an upgrade on your gear. I might have to sneak you out of the city for a spell, stay with my associates and get a touch stronger while we work out a way to get you in striking range of the Baron. How’s that sound?
There's a strong chance he's the only one that knows we're definitely still alive after the slaughter at the inn. I'd like to keep that knowledge secret for now, could be to our advantage. He can't be trusted to keep our secret. Either he offers us his fealty and comes with or he dies.
The spectral crown and tattered cloak appear around Sheridan as he feels his body move of its own volition towards the guardsman. Fear widens the guards eyes and tears start to stream down his cheeks as Sheridan places his hand on the guards forehead. The shroud extends down Sheridans arm and seeps into the skull of the guard, through his eyes nose mouth and ears. He starts to scream, but it is muffled, as the shroud withdraws clutching a silvery globe in it’s tendrils. The globe sinks into Sheridan as the guard slumps backwards. His soul belongs to you now my apprentice. If he betrays you then his life and rebirth are forfeit.
Kaled swallows somewhat nervously and side eyes Sheridan. Err well now that’s dealt with let’s get out of here, my cousin Argie will help get you out of the city and to the boss. He knows the tunnels better than me, I’ll go start another pub fight after you’re gone and keep the guards distracted.
Sheridan wiggles his finger in his ear a few times and shakes his head, then turns to Kaled.
Thank you for all of your help. If you could use your channels to spread some disinformation about us being alive that would be very helpful. Stay safe.
Oh that’s a brill idea, shoulda thought of that myself. Consider it done. Now if you head down into the cellar my cousin will be waiting. Next time we meet hopefully it’ll be to cave in the Barons skull. Heading down the stairway you enter the expansive cellar beneath the abandoned church. A large wine cask stands by one wall and lit candles provide a low level of light. You stand around for a few moments noting that no one else is here and there doesn’t seem to be another exit when you hear the gentle sound of wood scraping on wood. Turning back to the cask you see the top of it opening up and the brown haired head of a human male appears over the top of it. Hi! I take it you’re the boys who need a swift exit out of Martira Bay?
Taking the fire glares directed at him as assent he ducks back into the barrel and you follow. At the bottom of the barrel is a ladder leading down into the sewers that run beneath the city. A human male in heavy armour stands at the bottom holding a lit torch. Hello there! I’m Kaleds cousin Argetlam, but most people call me Arge. Follow me for a spell and I’ll have you out of the city and into the woods to the east. All going well we’ll be at the main camp before too long and we can speak to the boss about what to do. Sound like a plan?

Sheridan approaches the prisoner.

Intimidation 23
The guards eyes widen and a wet patch starts to spread from between his legs.

Sheridan turns to the others.
I fear Baron has screwed us over. How else could the Kargat have alerted the guard so quickly? If so, it means Constantin's death and the muddying of our names is on his hands.
The way I see it, we have several options:
Any combination of the above appeal to anyone?
I would very much like to find the imposter and extract answers from him, then we can deal with the baron and if need be I will watch his life drift away as I crush his skull

I know nothing of this city or Baron, I will defer to your assessment of the threat.
Khaled's plan seems to line up with several of my suggestions, albeit slightly delayed on some parts. What say you both?
Oriki shrugs with a smile.
I like new gear. The Baron's not going anywhere. And before we find him, perhaps we can find some of his friends?
He looks down at the guard.
What shall we do with this one?
Kaled pulls out a hand axe I got a suggestion and it involves his skull the the sharp part o me axe
There's a strong chance he's the only one that knows we're definitely still alive after the slaughter at the inn. I'd like to keep that knowledge secret for now, could be to our advantage. He can't be trusted to keep our secret. Either he offers us his fealty and comes with or he dies.
There are ways of assuring his fealty my apprentice. Assume my form and swear an oath. My magics will do the rest…..
Sheridan does as he's told, manifesting the tattered aura and swearing an oath
Master, in this matter I submit to your will. Do what must be done to ensure this one will not betray us. What would you have me do in return?
The spectral crown and tattered cloak appear around Sheridan as he feels his body move of its own volition towards the guardsman. Fear widens the guards eyes and tears start to stream down his cheeks as Sheridan places his hand on the guards forehead.
