Shrek towers over the doorway, head well above the slit in the door. Pointing to the slit, he stands to the side of the door and whispers "Trap?"
As Shrek gets 40 feet from the door you hear a loud bang and watch as a steel cage drops right behind Randall. A 2nd cage immediately follows, dropping on top of Randall and (the hopefully but not likely returning) Fr'reona.
Randall, you can give a dex save if you want to try and avoid the cage, or just stand still and let it drop on you.
(Does someone have a torch lit? I’d be happy to try the DEX save but unless there’s a light source Randall can hardly see let alone avoid a trap.)

Fr'reona tries to dodge the falling cage4 but trips as she do, and the iron cage falls on her leg, trapping her underneath, taking 9 bludgeoning damage.
Another cage drops in front of the door, blocking the passageway. A 4th cage drops on top of Melchor, leaving Olaerys and Shrek free, but trapped between cages.
Not sure where Shrek is, relative to Fr’reona, but let’s just assume he’s right next to the fallen cage. Shrek will attempt to lift the cage off of Fr’reona (Athletics: 22).
(Randall/Fr'reona are in the cage behind Melchor's)
The combined effort of Shrek and Olaerys not only manages to lift the cage, but also loosens one of the rusted bars to allow you in and out of it with effort, although Shrek is too large to fit through.
You hear footsteps lead away from the door you were approaching. Currently there is an empty cage at either end of the hall, with the cage containing Randall/Fr'reona in front of the western one
Shrek calls out to Randall & Fr'reona "Hang tight friends....Shrek is a commin'!"
Shrek will flex his muscles to limber up, and attempt to bend the bars of Melchor's cage. He wants to make his way into the cage, and then bend the bars of the opposite end of the cage, in order to eventually make his way to Randall's & Fr'reona's cage. I'm picturing that's three sets of cage bars he has to get through?
Flexin' to expand the bars of Melchor's cage to be able to get inside it: (Athletics) 22

(Yep, that's correct).
The huge Goliath easily bends the bars enough for him to wiggle through as well.
For the time being you are not in combat; I'll let you know when that changes
Fumbling around at the cage, Randall kicks the bars. “Ow! Oh to the Nine Hells with it. The element of surprise is gone.” He unhoods his lantern and looks around. “Care to free me next, Mr. Shrek?”

Shrek is now inside Melchor's cage...he quickly steps over to the far side and starts to work on bending the bars aside, so he can step out and over to Randall's & Fr'reona's cage.
"Hrm. Well, I guess this is my home for now." Randall tries to see past the others down the corridor. "Did anybody see what tripped the cages? Was it a hidden switch we stepped on or did somebody spring this on us?"

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
OOC: how big/heavy are these cages? Could we theoretically tip them over and/or shove them aside? Or, is the only way out of them….through them?
Shrek’s starting to rage a little bit, but works to calm himself down before he goes all out in barbarian rage mode uselessly. Once cool, calm, and collected, he attempts to pry the cage bars apart again-
Olaerys has worked up a sweat at this point. "Dammed if I know Randall, let me have a look." He starts to move along looking very carefully at the floor, or any other mechanisms for a trap to be sprung.
Perception : 8

They are pretty heavy, but with a decent effort you lift one up high enough for someone to get out. If you want, place a few rolls (5) in a row to attempt it. I'll give advantage based on Fr'reona pushing up as 'help'

Looking through the eastern cage to the door with the slit in it, you can see a series of levers on the other side of that door through the peep hole
"Uh oh. We are going to have company." Olaerys relates what he saw with the levers in the other room. "Someone activated those levers and is running for help right now. We need to work fast. Any other ideas to get everyone out of those cages? Perhaps we should retreat and try to surprise them at another passage."

Shrek has a little torch in one hand, and his halberd in the other.
