Ooof! Shrek let’s out a yelp of pain as the bolt pierced his upper right thigh. Pissed off at the surprise attack, he quickly hits the brakes, reaches down and picks up a softball sized rock and hurls it at the fleeing bandit. Having the intelligence of a gnat, he doesn’t realize that he can only throw the stone maybe 60 feet…not even close to the bandit. Regardless, the hurled rock is more an expression of anger and rage at getting attacked by the cowardly bandit.
Watching the fleeing bad guy, Shrek yells out “Where you running off to little guy? Shrek has important package to deliver!”
Turning to Melchor and Olaerys, he calmly asks “What now, boss? Little guy run away too fast.”
Randall catches up with the others. “What now then? Do we attempt to track him? Or should we explore the quarry and it’s tunnels?”

"No, I don't know if we can catch him. Let's explore the quarry. I'm sorry you got hurt Shrek. Tell us whenever you need a rest. I thought Shrek would be able to catch him, but he had too much of a lead." If the others agree, we turn around and head back to the quarry.

‘Wait a moment, let me see if Glimmer can track him, now that she’s aware of his presence…’ says Melchor quietly, his eyes going very distant as he attunes his senses…
Glimmer Perception: 15
Glimmer is able to track him pretty easily. The Forest is somewhat thin, and there isn't really anywhere for the masked watcher to go; it's down the road and into the Sumber Hills, or back into town. As it happens, the mask the man is wearing prevents him from seeing Glimmer, who sees him come to a stop behind a tree after he noticed the big Goliath is not following
Melchor’s eyes re-sharpen, and he looks around. ‘Glimmer has the masked troublemaker under observation. If we continue in the direction he fled we should be able to apprehend them, or follow them to their lair - they have stopped and are attempting to hide at the moment…’ he gestures in the general direction…
Randall will drop the hood on his lantern and will hang back as they get closer so the chainmail jangling doesn’t alert their quarry.

"Shrek distract little scared guy...others sneak around and capture him." Shrek whispers to the team.
With that, Shrek will slowly walk towards where he last saw the bandit, making sure to make all the noise in the world to keep the attention of the bad guy solely on himself. He'll periodically pick up rocks and hurl them towards the area where he thinks he's hiding, to draw his attention towards himself even further.
Noticing Shrek resuming his pursuit, the masked man attempts to creep between the trees along the edge of the quarry (only a fool would leave town alone in the middle not the night these days), not noticing the other party members approach along the other side of the quarry, and oblivious to the owl tracking him.
After a short pursuit he realizes he has been trapped. Stopping midway between the Goliath and his companions (let's says 70 feet away from each), he shouts out:
"Cursed be you fools. You do not know what you face. You are doomed! I will tell you nothing! You will not have me! The prophet promises a fate worse than death if I betray the cult."
He looks resolutely at the bluff and amazingly runs full speed at it, throwing himself off into the quarry, where he lands with a sickening thud on the rocks.
Melchor drops his hand, raised too late to cast a spell to stop the cultist, and takes a deep breath.
’That was, hmm, unexpected… This so-called Prophet could prove to be a formidable opponent if they’re capable of inspiring that must fear and loyalty…’ he sounds almost excited at the prospect. ‘Of course, it’s also a weakness, having people too keen to end their own lives.’ he starts to retrace his steps to find a way down into the quarry. ’We should search the body for clues…’

Shrek stops and scratches his head in disbelief. "Little scared man thinks he bird? And what is prop-het?" Shrugging his shoulders, he hightails it around the quarry to where the path led down below, following Melchor.
"Shrek no want to touch splatted body. Gives me the creeps."
As Melchor rifles through the bloodied pancake, Shrek will stand guard, looking around for further cultists attempting to sneak up and attack the group.

Olaerys follows, shocked by the choice of death. "Wow. I understand Shrek. Let me have a look." Olaerys bends down to look for the mask, check his belongings and anything else apparent.
You investigate the corpse and find several things of interest. Firstly, his possessions include a 5 gp, 2 daggers, a room key which Randall recognizes as from Mother Yalanta's boarding house (#4 on the map of Red Larch), and the aforementioned stone mask, now cracked in two. You can make out a symbol carved into the mask (picture to come later).
Fortuitously, the body has landed by what looks like an abandoned storage tunnel, but you notice there appear to be relatively fresh foot prints leading inside it.
Hearing the cultist's shouts and the *splat* Randall calls out to the others... "What happened? Did someone fall? Careful - the edge of the quarry should be just over that way...". He continues to fumble around until he gets the all clear to un-hood his lantern.

*Later*
"Hmmn. I think I know that key. The boarding house in Red Larch uses keys like that. I don't recognize this fellow though... or what's left of him." He looks around the quarry. "Does this have something to do with that insane necromancer? Or are there multiple mysteries here? If you want, we can ask about this fellow back at the boarding house. But perhaps we should investigate the quarry further. Someone has been in and out of that tunnel recently...".

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Like a little school kid, Shrek eagerly raises his hand and stretches it high above the group. "Me! Me! Me!'" he loudly whispers, before wheeling around on his heel, pulling out a torch and lighting it while marching straight into the tunnel.
The tunnel is muddy. A small wooden coffer sits on the floor by the door, and beside the coffer is a heap of damp sand from which the ends of torches protrude. A quick look inside the coffer shows some flint and steel, and 6 dry torches.
It winds south a long way before descending gradually. After two hundred feet or so, it opens into a wide cavern
This wide, irregularly shaped cavern has a floor of smooth bedrock. Damp dirt and stone, with tree roots protruding here and there, make up the walls. A five-foot-wide tunnel leads off to the north, and a stone slab a door with a rusty pull-ring -stands to the east. By the stone door, a couple well-used cloaks and a waterskin are on the floor.

Earlier…
Melchor stands up from where he had been searching the body, covered in blood and gore. A few words and gestures, and he is covered in a shimmering light that lifts the blood from his hands, arms and clothes, where it hovers as a small sphere of blood for a moment before dropping back onto the body.
‘Messy work, but not everything is neat and tidy…’ he says, before joining the group heading into the tunnel.
Now…
Wary of traps, Melchor looks carefully around the stone door, checking for anything out of place…
