A hearty old man’s laughter, and the voice with the Eladrin accent again, “ The poisons are a mercy, Nine. Nothing I taught you to make is for killing. Worst your brews can do is send them to dance with fairies for a while.”
Nevertheless he makes the dart disappear back into the pouch at his belt.
A tune is whistled, a slow and haunting piece that fades quickly from a whistle to the perfect tones of a flute. The song is Elven, ancient, and simple. The fox kit curls nose to tail, asleep in an instant, and Nine swiftly scoops it into Morgan’s lap where it snuggles.
Morgan blinks and remains absolutely still as Nine places the kit in her lap. After several long moment she slowly moves to stroke its soft fur from head to tail.
The beak clicks with approval and Nine leans back in his chair. He eats the remaining beetles swiftly, then polishes out the jar with a handkerchief and stows both in his satchel. He stares about the tavern for a bit, and contentedly refills his bowl with wine.
The man at the table with Morgan and Nine-While-Nine shuts his book rather abruptly and tucks it into his backpack
He looks at both Morgan and Nine and says "They call me Sigmund." He then reaches into his pack and begins rummaging for something else. He pulls out yet another book, this one has no text on the cover, but a large rune instead. As he opens the book the rune emits a faint blue glow.
"May I ask what your names are?"

The Kenku ranger blinks at the man, and at the book he carries. He cracks open his beak and the now familiar woman’s voice murmurs sultry, “That makes this one Nine-While-Nine.”
Mira comes over with Jae's galouch, depositing it on the table in front of him.
OOC: Eisenfuchs said it was fine to roleplay servers and staff like Mira if he wasn't able to get on. Just letting you know in case you didn't see his comment, it was somewhere several pages back. Also, this thread is really helping me with this character's backstory, I never really thought that much about some of this stuff before.
I can sympathize with that, those sorts of moral dilemmas have made my life difficult before.Cloud smiles ruefully, remembering a certain run-in involving a devil knowing the location of a good ally's soul. You said that you were supposed to track down a thief, but got ambushed along the way. Do you think that there's some sort of connection?
"Nice to meet both of you, now if you'll please excuse me for another moment. I don't mean to be rude, but there is something I need to take care of."
Sigmund softly reads aloud from the tome before him in Draconic, it registers as a mere mutter to those at the table with him. The pages of the book cast a faint blue glow onto his face.

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Morgan shares a concerned sidelong glance with Nine, suddenly very unsure of their tablemate's intentions. She watches VERY carefully as he reads from his book, trying to discern what he is doing.
Mira comes over with Jae's galosch, depositing it on the table in front of him.

OOC: Thanks for the tip on servers. Glad to hear that this is helping, it's definitely doing the same for my character.
"Ah, thank you very much, maam!" says Jae, smiling. Unsure whether to tip or not, he hands her a gold piece.
Jae grimaces, scar straightening.
"Almost definitely. Not much to be done unless I can move up in power, though. Ruffians backed by rich people backed by whatever they are a part of means I have to watch what I say. It's a strange thing. If I arrested one of the ruffians, it would all be fine, but Helm forbid I call out the man who hired them."
Jae tastes the galosch experimentally, and finding that it, like most foods, is tasty enough for him, he eats a few more bites, with almost bizarrely good manners.
"I hope I'm not rude to ask this," Jae says softly, setting down his spoon, "but...um...what kind of creatures are the tavern owner and some of the other folk around here? I haven't ever seen anything like them before."
Inez, found herself growing hungrier by the second. She walks up to the bar with the little money she had and buys a roll. She walks back over to find a table and sees Morgan as she recognized from earlier when she arrived. "Hello again, could I eat with you?"
Ah, a completely understandable question. Cloud smiles understandingly. They're Michtim, small friendly cat people. Different type of cat people than me though, the outside name for us is tabaxi. Michtim live here, in the Immergrummel woods, and are quite friendly to the many travelers who wander here in need of rest. That's the nature of the woods, especially this tavern. They draw those in need of rest. I can absolutely sympathize with your problem with corrupt authority, it sounds like quite a bind.
OOC: I really need to check the spelling of galosh, I'm pretty sure I'm spelling it like the boot now, which I'm almost sure is wrong.
Here let me pay you Inez. For all the trouble you have went through to help me out. This is all that I can really give you. She says while she places 2 gold next to Inez.

Scarlet is a red haired wood elf. She is wearing a semi-formal red dress and her green cloak with silver lining. She has a beat up old scimitar at her side. She has dark green eyes and a feather in her hair. Her skin is well tanned.
Morgan stirs awake at Inez's words. She'd inadvertently fallen asleep in the middle of her reading, the fox kit still nestled into her lap. She shakes her head groggily a few times before looking back at Inez, barely half awake.

With the fox kit curled up in her lap, and her issues with Xazabrax temporarily forgotten, Morgan resumes her reading of Scarlet's book.
At Sigmund's question, she'll glance up briefly to meet his gaze, a rare contented smile on her face due to her present unusual situation.
"Morgan Tiernay," she responds simply, "and my friend here is known as Nine-While-Nine."
The Kenku ranger blinks at the man, and at the book he carries. He cracks open his beak and the now familiar woman’s voice murmurs sultry, “That makes this one Nine-While-Nine.”
Nine laughs, the giggle of a crowd of children , as he and Morgan both answer Sigmunds question.
He looks at the man expectantly, and clicks a questioning chirp.

It would appear that Sigmund is reciting spells, perhaps memorizing them.
Sigmund lets go of the book and lets it float in front of him, the pages now turning on their own.

*Yes?*
At that moment people close to the door move to let in a 8 foot goliath how is dressed in ragged leather armor
"Hello, my large friend. I hope you can here. There are some larger chairs over by the bar and the barmaid should be around soon to take your order."
In a deep voice says "Thank you, Might I ask your name?"
