Elwyn & Kulogall - What was once a fine master bedroom now stands decayed. Some of the floorboards are missing, and there is rubbish scattered around. A tall wooden wardrobe stands against the wall opposite the fireplace, its door closed.
Ariana & Ruby - Rubbish is scattered around what was once a fine guest bedroom; there is evidence of rodent infestation, and webs hang in the corners. A four-poster bed stands against the wall opposite the fireplace. Its woodwork is worm-ridden, and the curtains that once screened the bed are torn and stained. There is no bed linen, but the bed is mostly intact.
Elwyn & Wake - Inside the wardrobe you find a pair of old, cracked leather boots and a cloak hanging on a peg. The cloak is tooled with a design of coiling ivy leaves and appears harmless but your thorough investigation reveals that the inner folds are covered in a peculiar yellow mold.
A successful DC 12 Nature or Survival check will reveal the following:
Yellow mold grows in dark places, and one patch covers a 5-foot square. If touched, the mold ejects a cloud of spores that fills a 10-foot cube originating from the mold. Any creature in the area must succeed on a Constitution saving throw or take poison damage and become poisoned for 1 minute. While poisoned in this way, the creature takes poison damage at the start of each of its turns. The creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a successful save. Sunlight or any amount of fire damage instantly destroys one patch of yellow mold.
"Don't touch the cloak Wake. It looks nice and all, but that yellow mold could be bad for your health." Elwyn says smiling and heads downstairs again. "Are you all coming?"
"Yeah, I don´t think we´ll find anything in this room." She answears Elwyn after having a quick look in the room Ariana just opened and starts following him downstairs.
He is a little curious of what could be in the attic (besides trouble), but knows that every minute wasted could endanger Cal even more than he already is.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Elwyn starts with the corridor to the west, listening at the door to the south. Perception: 23 Unless he hears something he tries to open the door and searches the room for clues to where Cal could be. Investigation: 11
Beckoned away from the empty room, Ariana looks longingly at the fireplace. Be a team player, Ariana, she thinks to herself in her old teacher's voice.
Now on the first floor, Ariana again follows Elwyn and takes the next nearest door, in this case the one to the north in the west hallway.
Perception 9
If she hears no danger, and there is no danger after Elwyn opens his door, she opens this one.
Elwyn - This room was once a library, with bookshelves around the walls. Most of the shelves are broken, and in many places they have come away from the wall. The few shelves still intact are empty, but a pile of books rests in the southwest corner. The fourteen books in the heap untidily thrown into the corner are covered with cobwebs, vermin droppings, and harmless mold. All are partially ruined but are still legible.
Most of the books are dull (histories, collections of romantic poems, and so forth), but three are quite noteworthy. These three books bear clear titles on their spines:
The Magical Properties of Gemstones by the archmage Tenser (7gp)
The Magical Properties of Herbs and Flowers by the archmage Tenser (7gp)
The Metaphysics of Mathematics by the mage Nystul (7gp)
Inside the third volume lies a piece of parchment torn from a larger sheet, containing a few lines of handwritten text in the Common tongue. Dampness has spoiled it so that only two words are legible: “...beyond skeletons...”
Ariana - This room was once a writing room or study. Against the wall under the windows sits a large wooden writing desk, partially broken and riddled with damp rot. There are three drawers in each side of the desk and a large central drawer; the latter is closed, but the others are all open — and two of them have been broken open forcibly.
All - The foot prints Ruby initially found in the kitchen area lead to the large living area to the west.
Ariana - With a grunt, you rip open the drawer. It contains old, valueless documents, all written in Common — receipts for purchases of various chemicals and laboratory equipment.
Your successful strength check also dislodged a false bottom in the drawer, revealing a small object wrapped in cloth. You carefully peel back the cloth to reveal a vial with a red liquid inside. The liquid is glimmering and swirling a bit, it slows as you watch. The vial contains two doses of a potion of healing.
"I'm going in." Elwyn says to the others, opens the door and peeks inside, ready with his tentacle-shaped wand.
Perception: 23
Wake will hoist his shield, grant himself Vigilant Blessing, and head to where doors are being opened.

Kulogall heads back to Elwyn and Wake and prepares to enter with them. “We will stay together.”
A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Ariana nods. "Together, then." She waits to open her door to see if anything of immediate concern is in Elwyn's room.
If his room is empty of immediate danger, she opens her door.

Wake will enter with Elwyn and position himself in front of the wardrobe with his shield lifted.
”What sort of surprise would you expect in here? Moths … bats?”
Wake readies his war hammer to strike.

Ariana - The drawer is locked.
A successful DC 10 Dexterity Check with Thieves' Tools will unlock the drawer.
Alternatively, a successful DC 12 Strength Check will break the lock without jamming it, allowing the drawer to be opened.
Ariana curses at herself that she hasn't yet replaced her thieves' tools.
She tries to yank the drawer open.
