You journey for about an hour, maybe less, in the still dark night. Parson continues to scout ahead silently as the 5 companions walk in silence, each thinking of the fight earlier.
It is cold and the moon is long gone before you find two trees just off the road. Trees are scant in The Great Plains, so it looks as good a place as any to rest for a while. Sun will likely come up in about three hours, and Beres is about 5 or 6 hours away if you continue on this main road.
Fin and Ferg, since you slept before, you are way more alert than Arc, Ash and Effulgyn. Ash is literally weaving where he stands, having walked so long. He grabs a thin blanket from his pack and immediately falls asleep on the ground (next to the cart, furthest from the road.)
Is anyone taking watch? How long do you plan to rest?

Fin will step a short distance away ((15-20')) and begin excavating trenches along the roadside with the use of his rudimentary magic. If anything came at them, it would have to come along the roads in open view. A few minutes go by as he surveys his work in the dim light. The trenches flanked the wagon for about 20' behind and ahead. Any closer to the road to make a clean circle would make the packed stone and earth soft and liable a hassle to travel through.
Satisfied but on alert, Fin returns to his gear, ensures his weapons and shield are in order, and savors a bit of Jerry while scanning the dark horizon.

Ferg will stand guard with Parson for the first few hours. He is hoping to get a short rest in at some point. He sits in the wagon to have a better view and let's Parson fly in circles about 40 feet out. "Let me know when any of you are able to take the watch. We can share time back and forth."
He pulls out some rations and begins on the dried fruit and nuts.
With Arc and Ash already fast asleep near the cart, Effulgyn, Fin and Ferg discuss what to do next. If they take a full rest, they will set off again mid-morning and put themselves at risk of being seen on the road in a suspicious manner. But, they are only a few hours from the city limits of Beres so if they are going to hold true to their path either way, they will be passing through in daylight and will be seen then anyway.

“It’s a dilemma, lads. Either way it seems we’re suspicious. But if we should have to face adversity, I’d rather do it with our spellcasting fully at hand.” He continues resting, planning to continue on through Beres the next day.
Wonderful. I will assume for the sake of moving this along that everyone intends to take a full rest, and will allow Ferg to keep Parson flying around under the command of waking him if someone comes down the road. However, if you want someone to watch more than 100 feet out (off the road, for instance?) someone will need to take watch.

Ferg, the two hours pass by slowly but you watch, almost with a sort of hypnosis, the sky turn from black to navy to purple as the sun slowly makes its way up the east coast, casting the peaks of Mount Voture into dramatic black angles. As you watch the mountains seem to appear out of the silky black night, you think you see some movement--a flurry of fast movements in the air actually, sort of like a flock taking flight? You stand to get a better look but whatever you saw is either no longer moving, or has gone out of sight.

Ferg doesn't do anything until he is ready wake someone to take his place at the watch (not sure who is up next to replace him.) When he wakes the next person for the watch he tells them "I didn't see anything obvious but there are flying creatures nearby that I caught a fleeting glance of at one point a little bit ago. It feels like they are aware of us. If they have powerful friends we may be in trouble. For now I'm not sure what we can do. Keep a good eye out." Ferg goes to his camp and quickly goes to sleep. It has been an eventful day.

I'd say we travel for about an hour down the road then pull over and stop for the rest of the night. Come morning we can start off again.
