"Well," says Effulgyn. "Well, well. I'm not sure. Those magic types y' know..." He changes the subject. "Say. We're just passing through, but is there anything goin' on here in town we should... keep our eyes out for? Like, is there a... thing... about the rabbitfolk wearing uniforms or summat?"
"Oh hahah" Haldeep laughs nervously. "The Harengon Clans you mean? Hang on." She spins around and enters the kitchen in one seamless movement, like a dancer.

Fin has been listening for conversation in the kitchen this whole time is able to pick up on Haldeen's conversation when she enters the kitchen. There are two other voices--one almost as light and twinkling as hers, which he can't hear much, and one deep, that he can hear quite clearly.
"Wait did you say they're from Voture Village?" the deep voice says.
"Yes, it rang a bell, too" Haldeen says.
"Wasn't there a raid on the farms there?" the deep voice says.
The lighter voice says something Fin can't make out.
"That's right, we did lose our supply didn't we"
"Odd, he didn;t mention it. He did just now mention the Harengon."
"Silence."
"Wonder which clan they're with?"
"or which they're against?"
"Best not to pull at that thread, Haldeen. Listening ears and all that. We've managed to stay out of it this long."

Effulgyn you turn around and see that all three of the Tieflings sitting behind you are silent in a way that can only mean they've been eavesdropping - once you turn around, their silence ends in disjointed conversation.

Effulgyn ignores the Tieflings, and looks back to his companions while stifling a wry chuckle. "It's all right lads," he says, under his breath, "I know small town life. Little of interest happens so ye focus on the sudden appearance of strangers like bees swarming honey. Shall we settle up and head out?"
Meanwhile the human couple have stood up and are gathering their things. They pause briefly, still standing at their table, before slowly making their way to the door and past you. They are very obviously taking in as many details about you as they can.
"You off then?" Haldeen says from just outside the kitchen door. She has two pitchers of ale in her hands.
"We'll see you again next week" the man says, not taking his eyes of your table.
"Or sooner!" the woman says with a little wave. They exit.

Fin will lean over to Haldeen when she approaches, "Ma'am, trust me when I say we're not from around here, nor do we want any trouble where we go. If we've give you, or anyone here," he gives a clear nod to the kitchen through the adjacent wall, "Reason to worry about any local affiliation, rest assured we're just passing through."

Humming to himself after the fine meal, Effulgyn’s expression of content transforms quickly. He stands straight up, his hand coming up to his temple, as he feels his stomach drop to the floor.
Struggling not to overreact, willing his hand back to his side, he croaks out, “The… the raids?”

"But what would the North do without the miners is what I want to know eh? Serves 'em right maybe to have to share the wealth. But anyway that's neither here nor there,: she says, trailing off. In the time she started talking the restaurant has gone a little quiet and she is only just noticing now.
"Hope your family is OK," she says, somewhat more quietly now. "What was the name of your farm again? I can ask if the cook's heard anything."
