"The dwarves live inside the mine? Interesting," Rabbit says. "There room for us there? Or we have to see to our own lodging? If we're there after nightfall I presume we'll move on in the morning."
"Up to you love. I think we have a few extra beds."
"Aye it was a few weeks ago when we were dealing with the Redbrands. I saw him grabbing a horse and flying away.Big nasty this one!Hope we won't have to fight him soon"
"Raskin shrugs Thats the reason you folks is along mates"
For the first part of the journey Calithor contents himself with listening to the patter between his companions while idly tapping out a rhythm on his drum. He is curious about the man they are guarding, but also happy to be doing something that -- at least for the moment -- does not involve murder and mayhem. The talk of dragons seems like the common talk of all travellers. If it was not dragons then it would be giants, or demons, or some other archetypal monster.
At a lull in the conversation he approaches the wagon.
"So, Raskin...supplies for the mine, eh? I this likely to be a regular occurrence? Something we should plan for, or just a single opportuniuty?"
Margaret shivers "dragons. . . big, scaly dragons! i hate them, hopefully we won't need to ever get near one." she comments with a sight. she summons her familiar, asking ot to be on her shoulder while she gently pets it's head "hopefully we won't need to fight anything at all, if luck is on our side."
Raskin gives the mighty warrior, wearing gleaming green form fitting scale mail, the side-eye wondering how tough she is.
In half a day, you're halfway to the mine. It seems in such a short distance it would of only taken you half a day to get to the mine itself but many of the hills the trail traverses are quite steep, causing the strongest of you to help push the cart up them. And some of the valleys are swampy and muddy. Many times the cart full of supplies became stuck, making some of the group resemble mud wrestlers after the assist of freeing it.
In half a day, You come to a flat peak of one of the hills, Raskin calls a halt for lunch. The group sets up camp and a fire, Raskin brings out a package of sausages and sourdough. Cooking them on a three legged grill, that looks like a stool with a loop for a hook in the middle.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
After watching Raskin call for a halt and set up a fire for a moment, Rabbit walks about the top of the hill, surveying the land around them. And the sky. Just keep a look out for what might be out there. (Perception: 13)
Evenutally she wanders over closer to where Raskin is cooking. "We're about halfway? There as many hills and muddy valleys the rest of the way?"
Krull stays vigilant. He searches with rabbit for threats around them and occasionally looks up in the sky( help action) "Better be on our guard!Don't like it and I don't know when he will hit us.Good thing we have K.O"
As you sit around the campfire eating and keeping watch Raskin pipes up telling a story.
"My grandfather told me a story Mates of a great knight of the name Lady Tanamere Alagondar. More than a century ago, she was a royal Scion of Neverwinter, tasked with stopping the great green dragon Azdraka! Who was terrorizing the Highroad you see. The lady along with two groups of adventures fought the Dragon until only Lady Alagondar remained. With a mighty blow! She thrust her sword Nightwing, which some say a dragon-slayer sword. into the creatures heart slaying Azdraka, only to be mortally wounded herself, by the dragons poison breath. Where the dragon fell, the remains of her fallen compatriots and the corpse of Azdraka were sealed in the barrow Intombed with her, in accordance with Lady Alagondar’s dying wishes. For she died not long after, when the Dragons poison took her.
Till this day off the High Road not far southeast of Neverwinter you can see the mound called Dragon Barrow. At night some reports of lights dance around it. Some say projecting the events of the battle long ago."
Raskin shrugs "I don't discount my grandfather's stories, but that was a rather short one Mates, I can't tell ya more."
With that, and everyone fed, he starts putting the grill away using a rod with a hook to fetch it out of the fire he sets it apart too let it cool.
Raskin points "Well, will you look at that!"
Those with a passive perception of more than 12 see a white silhouette no more than 20 miles away. Carrying a large ape like figure off to the east.
As Krull listens he is fascinated by the strength and the skill fighting of that lady.."Slaying a dragon only few can do!What a strength she had!" Thinking what does he mean with dancing lights asks"Those stories always carry some truth!"Do you mean that place ishaunted?(shrugs)i believe we should free the spirits! They should go to the great beyond, to the vast fields and forest where the animal gods will accompany them in hunt and battle"
Calithor starts a more rousing beat in his drum, and begins quietly singing a tale of dragons, death, victory and love that seems most suited to the occasion.
(( @DM: Can Calithor recall any songs of Lady Tanamere Alagondar? If so, that's the song. If not, can he recall any of the history? ))
Performance: 17; History: 6 . Like most bards, style wins out over substance, it seems.
"Hmm, I hate to think what the moral of that story would be," Rabbit says. "And now Krull, maybe someday we can see if that Dragon Barrow has any spirits to free. Sure it'll be fine for now, and we've got other things to do."
She listens to Calithor's song. She tries to look in the direction Raskin points, but doesn't really see anything. "What are you trying to show us?"
"Yea, well... that's kinda close isn't it?" Rabbit says a bit nervously. "He seems occupied though, so we ought to be safe for now." She looks around at the rest of the group and Raskin. "Probably should get moving though, right?"
Calithor is more than happy to keep moving and from this point forward tries to keep nearer the tree line, if there is one. As they move his tapping on the drum is considerably fainter, and he keeps a careful watch on the skyline for signs of movement.
Krull nods and searchs for the best possible route to keep the group hidden from dragons sight(survival check 7 with help action could be better lol) "it's time to move!if need we let the horses to buy us time.i can carry that wagon if needed"
As the group moves on, your destination comes near
A low ridge rises to your right, beyond which you see the Sword Mountains scrape the gray sky. A beautiful sunset, makes the clouds line with pink. But closer in, something is strewn across the rocky ground ninety feet ahead.
“Well, ain’t that something,” says Raskin, pointing at what appears to be six dead orcs.
Calithor immediately scans the forest and hills to either side of the road. "Whatever killed them may still be around, and if it was miners, they would have removed the bodies I think. Unless..."
He peers a little closer, trying to assess if they died recently: still-flowing blood, reflective or soggy pools of blood...or just dried brown patches.
Rabbit nods at the comments from Calithor and Krull. "Let's keep an eye out. Maybe Krull and Margret can approach and have a look? I'll stay back with Calithor, ready to cover you if something happens."
She notes the carts and horses. "Raskin can keep an eye back here, hopefully out of any danger." She then glances at Calithor, "We should keep an eye out too. Hate to investigate this then have the cart attacked."
The group notes the orcs are all in frozen poses, literally. They all have a look of fear, great axes readied, except for one which only the calves and feet remain.
edit "(Calithor the blood is frozen and only around the mostly eaten one)
(Rabbit no other signs of what attacked can be seen, this is an open area though.)
Krull nods and moves carefully towards the orcs."Whatever attacked them took them by surprise! They didn't stand a chance!and that ice..wierd"He inspects the bodies trying to identify the cause( 15 investigation )
"Up to you love. I think we have a few extra beds."
"Raskin shrugs Thats the reason you folks is along mates"
"About once a month, Mate"
