The rest of the day, nothing happens, but its slow going less than half speed if you follow the more direct route. Cause in the thinner air the humans and half-elf are not used to climbing. Soon nightfall will come, sunset, the view from the mountainous terrain is spectacular. The cold thin air is exhilarating to Krull but tiring to the others.
Red route
The rest of the day nothing happens, you make good time at first heading down hill, then out too the grasslands. Turning east, travel is easy for another few hours, then night fall is coming soon, waist high grass, surrounds the travelers.
"Before we leave I need to know how well trained you are with climbing mountains? If we take the road I am thinking it will take a lot of strength! There is also another route which is easier but longer and we might have more chances to fight beasts, orcs etc.."
"Climbing a mountain? Is that like climbing a tree?" Rabbit asks, suggesting she's never climbed a mountain. "Guess I'm OK at climbing in general. Not great."
"Short cuts lead to long delays," says Calithor as routes are discussed, "I read that somewhere".
He exhales sharply and looks up at the mountain peaks, "There's many a tale of people walking into the trackless wastes. They usually end with 'and they were never seen again'."
He turns back the group and smiles, "Either that, or they return years later, unhinged and raving, as a salutary warning to the foolhardy."
Rabbit laughs at everyone's comments, "There you go Krull! Clear guidance!" She gives him a grin. "Well, clearly Calithor thinks we should take the long way around. And maybe he's telling me I know nothing of mountain climbing. So, let's work our way around then."
With a relieved glance at the mountain, Calithor follows. As they travel he starts recounting all the tales he can remember of travellers being lost in treacherous mountain crossings or being eaten by Yeti as their friends flee down-slope.
"Don't worry Cal!...Yeti are not easy to find them.IF you do .. play them nice music and they will eat you for supper " says Krull and laughs as they start walking
"That almost sounds like a story there Krull. Have you known Yeti that eat musicians?" Rabbit asks, "That does seem like the sort of company you might keep," she teases. "Anyhow, let's stay out of the mountains if we can."
Krull smiles as he likes the jokes. He leads the way and says "Sometimes I forget that I am the only one who was born and raised in the wilds..Civilisation..what a weird thing!"
The rest of the day nothing happens, you make ok, time each leading their own horses, Droop is happy to ride on the donkey he names Melvin. At first heading down hill, then out too the grasslands. Turning east, travel is easy for another few hours, then night fall is coming soon, waist high grass, surrounds the travelers. The horses start grazing. "Droop hungry, but need help with horses."
"Okay Margret. We can start to get the camp set up," Rabbit says. "Krull? You want to figure out the best spot?" She does what she can to get a small fire set up, her bedroll placed somewhere comfortable, and perhaps a bit food for everyone.
When she gets a moment, she glances over at the horses as they graze. "So, is there any advantage to the horses? I mean, why did Sildar give them to us? Feels weird to just lead them about on our travels." Rabbit then grins. "Not that I mind!"
Rabbit furrows her brow a bit at Droop's comment. Immediately she responds, "I'm not scared!" She stands just looking at Droop and then over to the horses. "I mean, we just don't really need the horses, right? I mean, I've never ridden one of those things. It'll probably just knock me off."
"Horses can sense danger..they also are fast..master Sildar is wise.He knows that if the dragon finds us could help us escape him" responds Krull "Now let me look where we should camp" (10 survival and 12 perception if nneeded)
The only thing that Krull can think of is, stomping down the surrounding high grass in a wide circle. Not lighting a fire and hope the Dragon doesn't fly low enough to see them.
Krull surveys the area around them.." There is no higher ground..Grass provide us cover but also enemies can hide in..We should made flat the ground where we ll camp and then take turns guarding it.If the dragon finds us we hide in the tall grass but leave the horses behind"
(Krull definitely meant to take the green route..For him being mountain born feels natural to traverse it)
