As Khessa hears this from her fortified place inside, she speaks to Kramyra and Kan, possibly enough loud for them to hear, but NOT enough for the invaders to hear as well: "Psst! Come back here, please... and call Ev'alish back too. Better to discuss our next actions in private!"
To the companions that come back inside (and to Sorjen, that already is), she tells: "So these bastards take a prisoner... then come here to get what is not theirs through threatening or violence... and we should allow all this? Not to mention how likely it is that they get rid of us once we are no more needed. It is even worst than I thought. They are not here to rob or pillage... they want to take the village for themselves once and for all! I think our only chance is to fight them now, from a position of advantage, from inside the inn. As long as we are inside and they are outside, we have very good cover, while they don't. And should they storm inside, they will not be able to shot us from downstairs, they will need to come upstairs to fight us. Thanks to the barricade I set up here, only one at a time will be able to come. I can fight, or maybe only defend if wounded. Ev'alish, form behind me, will be able to attack undisturbed with his pike. And you all from the corridor will be able to shot the one that I'm fighting. Or toss some mass-damage spell downstairs from top, if you can. They have the advantage of numbers, but we have the advantage of the battlefield. If we go out and they decide to kill us... we have no advantage at all. Let's reply with a volley of arrows and spells and free the village from this plague also. The villagers deserve better than having their homes taken by the first that comes and wants them!"

“I completely agree, Khessa. We have been called to assist this town - thought it to be giants, but we also have goblins and now pillagers. We have no time for this if we are to find actual survivors. I will be happy to start the fight.” And since they are already upstairs, Kramyra goes to the window that gives her the best advantage to the intruders and casts chill touch at Kella. “Teach you to lie to us!” Attack: 15 Damage: 6
(Well that was a terrible start!)
In case I can use advantage - 12
(Good thought Khessa, but this was apparently not meant to be! Damage was pitiful anyways.)
@dm can you describe the situation of where everyone is now? I believe there are some who made to find a tower again, but I think that was interrupted. Are we at the tavern then where we found the girl and the goblin?
Also, once battle is started (as I’m sure we have enough Knightly good types to assume that’s the case), Kan will throw out a faerie fire across the zhentarim scum
I thought Khessa had taken place already in the fortified position she has prepared near the top of the stairs, but if she hadn't yet, she does it right now (given what she thinks of the situation and the advice she gave).

Sure enough he found a window and looking through it the cause of the noise. Eight riders with a prisoner. Maybe guards or a militia dealing with someone who found in the destruction of the village an opportunity to make easy coin. Or the other way around, he though. A soldier found thieves in their work and ended caught instead of the other way around. Before he could decide in what to believe the ranger heard the riders speak a name and from that moment he was sure battle was unavoidable.
The Zhentarim were well know for dealing in slave trade and while that was enough for Sorjen to feel nothing but disgust about them, this would certainly be more than enough for Khessa and Ev'alish to dive into confrontation. Part of the ship part of the crew, he though readying an arrow. He barely finished doing it when confrontation seemed to start, making his mind drift among questions. Should he mark one of the bandits a favored foe? Should he focus on the leader or one of the followers? The leader of a herd is usually hard to bring down, the voice of Moira echoed in his memories. If their numbers are too large bring the weaker down first.
“Turns out that we are under contract to protect what remains of this town.” Said the ranger focusing on one of the bandits with quicker reactions. “That and we don’t like slavers.”
And then he released his arrow. Once again he didn’t wait to see if he had hit his mark, instead Sorjen jumped way form the frame of the window, hiding behind the remaining walls and hopefully in complete cover.
Notes: After making his attack Sorjen move away from the window to get total cover (be it by crouching or simply moving to the side).
Ev'alish drops to one knee as the captain's scimitar cuts a deep gash into him. He rises, defiantly and proudly as he hoists his spear. "Thou shalt realize... mine actions hath no violence; to attack moi is an odd choice, considering I hath not attacked thee. However..."
The dragonborn crouches low, as if ready to spring forward. A chill begins to surround him. "Hearken! Lord Bahamut doth send his guidance and tactics unto me, so that I might prevail against thee in this duel of swords and magic! Prepare thyselves!!!"
His legs extend, and he cuts through the air with suprising speed... backwards, towards the tavern. (Action: Disengage)"Thine eyes do not deceive! This divine battle tactic has saved the lives of countless valiant warriors!" He shuts the door behind him, locking it if possible. Through the window, he bellows: "Thy blades art no match for these walls! We shalt turn this taproom into a citadel - one of your destruction, foul mercenaries!"
Panting, he makes his way up the stairs, limping a bit. He calls to the others. "Ready thyselves; if they pursue we must be ready!"

Kramyra thinks she might have been a bit preemptive in her attack, but just the thought of them having the gall to take over a village that is in need infuriates her. She knows that is what this group is known for, but doesn’t change a bit of what she feels. She peeks out her window again and casts Chill Touch on Kella.
Attack: 10 Damage: 1
(Kramyra is still in the window that gives her best vantage on Kella)
OOC: Khessa was before Kramyra in initiative order... but it does not matter so much at the moment.
Khessa has kept herself ready inside the inn, just upstairs, in the position she has prepared, behind a barricade made of the wardrobe and the desk. Part on the last steps of the stairs, part near Khessa, on the floor, she has put the bearskin and concealed it with some of the debris.
From that position, she takes the best cover she can (ideally left part of body covered by wardrobe plus from about waist down covered by desk - for a total of about 75% cover, that should give her +5 AC) and calls Ev'alish worried: "Come here, Ev'alish! Behind me!" she will help him pass the barricade she has prepared "Such a deep wound! But they will do no more harm to you - or to anyone. Just fight behind me. Only one at a time will come. I will let him not pass. From downstairs they can not shot. And you will be able to use your pike in safety, out of their reach"
Khessa will block an eventual attacker that tries to come upstairs, focusing on defence only, for now (she is taking the dogdge action to give the attacker disvantage).
Kan raises a hand holding a set of tools and gestures them towards the bandits in a bizarre and clearly occult fashion, casting faerie fire across all of the enemies. DC 13 Dex save
Kan would be at the doorway to the inn, and move further inside to get behind the heavyweights
??? Sorry to interrupt, but I do not understand: Kan's dc was 13... are not 4 the bandits failing the save? 3, 12, 7 and 12... Or I'm wrong (which might well be)?
Bandit's turn now, by the way, go ahead as soon as you wish.

OOC: Well, if Kella did not spot Kramyra, Kramyra might have suprised her and thus attacked with advantage?

Longbow Attack: 25
Longbow Damage (if applicable): 7
OOC: @DM, The attack would be against one of the bandits on the initiative 9. Forget to specify on the notes.
