Krank is a kobold of fine intellect and creativity with a knack for invention. He started life in a kobold warren located under Neverwinter. The clans main job was construction of the sewer systems under the city. Krank found the work boring and often ditched his labors to sneak up and view the city above. He spent many hours watching a gnome Tinker build marvelous contraptions and doodads. Occasionally he would swipe one and pull it apart to see how it worked. Eventually he was caught in the act and after a thorough job of begging, pleading and groveling the gnome let him go with an offer of apprenticeship in the Articifer trade. Eventually he earned trust and membership in the guild for his work. He was tasked with expanding his knowledge and sent forth to seek new designs and ideas to earn the level of journeyman in the guild
I think he could have taken up with a Vistani caravan to observe their Tinker traditions.
Personality Traits
I always want to know how things work and what makes people tick. I believe that anything worth doing is worth doing right. I can’t help it — I’m a perfectionist.
Ideals
Aspiration. I work hard to be the best there is at my craft. (Any)
Bonds
One day I will return to my guild and prove that I am the greatest artisan of them all.
Ability Scores (Point Buy with bonuses): STR 10, DEX 14 + 2, CON 13, INT 11 + 1, WIS 11, CHA 14
Class: Rogue (Swashbuckler)
Race: High Elf
Background: Noble
Backstory: Lady Issala is the youngest child of House Morrelai. Once, the Morrelai ruled much of the eastern lands from their seat of Stormholme Citadel. They were the most powerful and wealthy House in the region, and fended off neighboring Houses' bids for power with their large army. A few decades ago, Issala's grandfather the Baron Oren was baited into a seemingly minor squabble with the neighboring House Ishanti, only to be ambushed by the combined armies of several other Houses. The large united army routed the unprepared Morrelai troops, and managed to breach Stormholme Citadel. Baron Oren died defending the Citadel, but his son and heir managed to escape to Shadowedge Manor, a backwater country holding.
Issasla grew up in the isolated Shadowedge Manor with only her elder brother and a parade of tutors and governesses for company. As part of her education, her father's guard Captain Horam taught her the basics of swordsmanship. Issala discovered her natural talent with the blade during these training sessions, and after years of practice became an accomplished duelist.
Issala grew up hearing tales of the Morrelai's former glory and wealth, and desperately wants to restore her family's honor and position amongst the other noble families in the land. Family legend tells of Lord Felaern Morrelai, the architect of Stormholme Citadel. After designing the Citadel, Lord Felaern went adventuring in Bavaria, and never returned. From surviving fragments of Lord Felaern's diary, it is known that he kept extensive records outlining the design process of Stormholme, but Issala's father doesn't think any of those papers were in Stormholme Citadel's library when he fled. Issala wants to travel to Bavaria to find out what happened to Lord Felaern, and to see if she can find those records in the hopes of finding some weakness that can be exploited to overthrow the Ishanti and remove them from her ancestral home.
Her father coddles her, and absolutely forbids her to go, but she feels like she must go on this quest to prove that she can contribute to the family fortunes. One night, she sneaks out of Shadowedge Manor with her horse, Oca, and begins her journey.
Issala is pompous and dramatic and a teeny bit self-centered. She takes great offense to any real or perceived slight to Morrelai honor, and will defend that honor with her sword.
Personality Traits: I take great pains to always look my best and follow the latest fashions. If you do me an injury, I will crush you, ruin your name, and salt your fields.
Ideals: I must prove that I can handle myself without the coddling of my family. (Chaotic)
Bonds: I will face any challenge to win the approval of my family.
Name: Andy (Andielandil Saeliniane in full but few people know, and less use, that name.)
Ability Scores (Point Buy): STR 8, DEX 17, CON 14, INT 15, WIS 10, CHA 10
Class: Rogue (Arcane Trickster)
Race: High Elf
Background/Backstory: (Urchin) Andy has lived a rough life growing up on the streets of (insert largest nearby city). He never knew his mother, who died during childbirth, and his father, who turned to drugs and alcohol after his wife's death, was in and out of trouble with the law. His father was sentenced to death a few years after his mother's passing due to an attempted robbery that lead to the death of a local nobleman, leaving Andy to spend most of his years growing up bouncing between shelters and living on the streets where he learned to do whatever it took to survive.
One night, when Andy was in his late teens, he was caught attempting to lift a coin purse from a wealthy merchant. The man's hired guards beat Andy nearly to death and left him to die in a nearby alleyway. He regained consciousness a week later in a modest dwelling under the care of an elderly human mage named Sofia Hiltred. She had found him in the alley and paid what she could afford for a local temple to heal him. The clerics where able to prevent his death but the wounds to his right arm were beyond their ability to save and it had to be amputated just below his elbow. The two bonded over the next couple of weeks while Andy recovered and Sofia decided to let him stay with her in exchange for his help with things around the house that were getting difficult for her to do on her own since she had no one else to care for her.
Andy lived with Sofia for the last several years of her life, during which time he took care of her and she showed him care and kindness like he had never known before. She taught him how to use the mage hand cantrip (which came easy thanks to his High-Elf heritage) to help with the difficulties brought on by his missing limb. During their time together Andy tried to take on honest work, but often resorted to stealing and selling things he thought the owners could do without. Eventually Sofia passed away of old age, once again leaving Andy with no where to call home. Unwilling to return to life on the street he decided to take what coin he had saved up to buy some gear and head out to find work, and hopefully companionship.
((Andy has a makeshift hook harnessed to his right arm to allow for limited use of the limb and supplements that with his mage hand cantrip as needed. Hoping at some point (once he can afford it) to pick up a Prosthetic Limb as seen in Tasha's book to return full use of the arm, but will happily continue as he currently is if magic items are severely limited in the game. Although he is beyond the age of physical maturity for an elf, he is still well below the age at which they typically claim adulthood but makes up for that with his experiences. Despite (or perhaps due to) his challenging pastand age, Andy is optimistically lighthearted and fiercely loyal to those he calls friends, but can be unpredictable and spontaneous to the point that people sometimes question his motives and/or sanity.))
Personality Traits:
I sleep with my back to a wall or tree, with everything I own wrapped in a bundle in my arms.
I bluntly say what other people are hinting at or hiding.
Ideals:
People. I help the people who help me — that’s what keeps us alive.
Bonds:
No one else should have to endure the hardships I’ve been through.
Flaws:
It’s not stealing if I need it more than someone else.
