Grumbling to herself for missing with the dart, she knows she isn't good with range, why does she even try? she sees Sarya checking out the pillars. Something does seem a bit off about them. She readies herself if something appears to attack and goes over to the chest to investigate for traps. Ha, it seems she has learned something from Sarya after all.
"Umm, Rawlings, you're doing it again."Sarya says and tries to stop the winged tiefling from moving in between the humming pillars. "If those pillars are a trap you can be sure they are protecting the chest between them." She says to Rawlings with a motherly smile. "Perhaps your magic can push the buttons on the pillars while we wait outside the room." Sarya suggest trying to usher Rawlings out of the room again.
Rawlings shakes Sarya off, "I'm not touching it, just checking things out! Magic buttons you say? Now that is interesting, if we want to step out of the room I can practice my range and throw some darts at the buttons"
"Well, I think we have magic for pushing buttons, still not sure what the buttons do though. Hopefully pushing them would disarm the magical trap guarding the chest. Maybe Carlos or Harq could tell us?" Sarya says, stepping out of the room, not stopping Rawlings if she insists on throwing her darts at the buttons.
Harqstudies the pillars, the buttons, and the general layout of the room; after a minute or so, the wizard is confident that a push of the button will disable a trap that has been created to protect the iron chest. Guiding his mage hand into the room, Harq pushes the first button and the humming energy in the room decreases. Pushing the second button seems to quiet the room altogether.
As if to say, "You've done it!" Elonath flies into the room and unceremoniously lands atop the chest. For the first time, you hear the tiny dragon emit a pleasant but muted chirping sound.
"El! thanks for your help!"Harq says. ((is Elonath male or female? Do we know? Can we tell?)) Then seeing the little dragon perched on the chest pauses before his hand floats to it and says, "Anything else we need to know? Or is it safe to open and get outa here?"

"The lock, you think I should open it, is that it El?"Sarya says with a smile and walks over to the chest, letting Carlos give her a touch of guidance on her way. She crouches by the chest, pats El quickly and produces those slender tools again, going to work on the lock.
Carlos let out a satisfied sigh. He thanked Selûne and prayed for poor soul. " May the light of moon guide you, bring you beyond the horizon of grief and sorrows"
The cleric helps Harq to investigate the chest and traps. Carlos is so focused that he almost jumps in surprise when the pseudodragon utters words. " What!? Elonath, you can speak! Why did you stay silent all the way here."
In a matter of seconds, Sarya has the lock picked. Lifting the heavy lid reveals five items within the iron chest: a silk pouch heavy with coins (200 gold pieces), three spell scrolls, and the spellbook of Zaldara, the Duchess of Rot, bound in humanoid skin.
Rawlings lets out a low whistle when she sees what is in the chest. "Think it's ok to grab the book? Think it still might have a trap of some sort encasing it?"
She heads over to Elonath to scratch his chin while she waits. "Thank you for your help little guy." And gives him another scrap of meat.

Elonathcocks his head sideways, studying Carlos with curiosity. The pseudodragon then repeats his muted little chirping noise, which seems to indicate some sort of satisfaction.
"Ooh, look at this." Sarya says and quickly grabs the things in the chest, and with a clearly practiced move she swiftly dumps them into her backpack. "Alright, let's get out of here before Mrs. Rotten comes looking." She says and heads for the exit.
Rawlings rolls her eyes, "sure when I am trying to open things or get into things, its wait! check for traps. But now that there is loot to be had, Sarya grabs it with one foul swoop" and she follows her out the door.
The party retraces its steps toward the exit of Zaldara's basement. No more surprises, no more traps, no more undead. Just a simple dash to the outside world where Callbrax is waiting for you on the shore, scroll unfurled. “Stand still. This’ll only take a moment,” he barks before uttering an incantation.
In a flash of blue light, you are transported to a circle of runes on a forest floor. Dark pine trees with enormous spider webs block out the sky. Injured and dead Harpers lay upon stretchers, and the remains of undead, demons, constructs, and more litter the ground. Before you is the monolithic tower of black stone that Zaldara calls home. The smell of flesh burning and ring of steel emanates from the place of horrors. “Stay here!” calls the voice of Remallia Haventree.
The elf stands behind you, her left leg crisp with burned flesh and her right arm limp and bleeding. She screams at the tower, “Zaldara! It is done! We have your spellbook!”
An instant later, there is a terrible crack. Appearing before you is a woman with a face that is half beautiful, half skull. Despite her ragged breath and multiple fresh wounds, the Duchess of Rot is still clearly a force to be reckoned with. She points a finger at Remallia, and lifts her high into the air, and drops the elf back to the ground unconscious. The lich then turns to you.
“I’ll take that back,” she says with a weak, but defiant voice. "I kept my word and remained within Cloakwood, bothering no one. But behold!"
As she utters those last two words, she motions towards the dead and wounded nearby.

The room still hums with energy that seems to emanate from each of the two pillars.
Sarya fistbumps Carlos before cautiously proceeding into the room. "Hey Harq, Carlos, those pillars seem a bit suspicious, enlighten us." Sarya says as she studies them from some distance. Investigation: 6
Keeping a safe distance from the pillars, Sarya notices a single small button on each one.

All that remains now, is to open the chest...
