Aros, you are not familiar with this tune.
You hear the chorus of singing voices coming closer and closer. Singing jovially,
With sticks and stones, we’ll break your nose; We’ll beat you blind and steal your clothes. But none among us can compare To one wily, swift, and stand-up hare— Scarf that’s glorious, thief notorious, His deeds are truly meritorious!
With a wink and a grin, he’ll show his cunning; A flash of his scarf, he’ll take off running. Quick as a bolt, his long scarf trailing, Gasping, grasping, you’ll end up flailing. You’ll pout, you’ll moan, you’ll huff, you’ll sneer; Thanks to Agdon Longscarf, brigand prince of Prismeer!
"Ooh, that sounds like a fun song, I wonder who this Agdon Longscarf is."she turns to the newcomers, "you mentioned to the Misters you had your own mission to follow here, does it include the prince of Prismeer?"she whispers as they hide.
She quickly casts guidance on herself, knowing she has difficulty being stealthy.
"Hmmm. Prince of Prismeer? Maybe we should speak with them? Is this somebody who could be important to our mission? I think Resmae may be right."
Even still, she hides along with everyone. She has no difficulty remaining unseen, so it might be smart to hide just in case any of her friends get caught.
Bugs hides in the mangroves (Stealth = 14) and listens to the song.
A hare! A standup hare! Oh, this might actually be worth something!
But when his friends started whispering about the prince and possibly talking to them, he whispered, "thief notorious and brigand prince! Shhhh. I don't think prince is a formal title. Shhh."
He ducks behind whatever he can and listens and watches.
But his mind kept going back to the hare meritorious. A hare? He was intrigued. You could never have enough rabbits. Ok, so maybe you could. Technically when they breed like, you know, rabbits, you can end up with a lot. But metaphorically you could never have enough. And this one might be interesting. And apparently had a pretty cool scarf which meant . . . something.
The six of you scout around to your lefts and rights, quickly finding hiding places as the singing voices march closer and closer. Be it lying under a large mangrove root or rotting log or crouching behind a boulder, you all found concealment behind something and mud.
The singing stops as the voices come closer, and a female voice calls out tauntingly, "Come out, come out, wherever you are!" There is a pause, and you hear the group moving closer to your positions. The voice continues, "We have big ears and nostrils. We know you are here." The brigands step even closer to where you are all hiding. Some of you can see them as they approach your positions.
You are trying with all you might to slow your excited breathing, keep still and quiet yourselves, all the while hoping you haven't left anything behind in the open, or even worse, you sneeze.
They move even closer until they are almost on top of you. Only feet away, you can now see what you are up against as you hide just a little deeper, hoping you are not seen or heard.
You can tell by the ease at which they move around these folk are native to the swamp. What you have found difficult terrain is proving very easy for the bandits to navigate. Upfront is a tall herangon. She dons a broad, black hat with a long black feather flowing back from behind the band. A black mask conceals her eyes. A long black cape drapes from her back, and long black boots worn on her feet. Not a speck of mud sullies her very black and typical, highway bandit look. She holds a rapier down by her side as she traverses the area with her gaze. Behind her are four more rabbit folk scouring the landscape. The last herangon rides atop a giant snail that it browbeats with a crop, much to the snail's vexation.
After several minutes of studying your local, the leading lady waves her hand in the air and gestures to the brigands to move on. They slowly continue on their way, all the while looking around for you.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Aros thinks to herself that there is absolutely no way that a bunch of folk who know this swamp that well could search for several minutes without finding them. She suspects a trick. She'll watch them as they move away to see whether or not they're going to double back and ambush them.
Halei starts to become restless, but she is conflicted on what she should do. She has half the mind to try and follow them, she usually has full confidence in her and her friend's ability to remain unseen, but could these people's experience in the swamp override their skill? Or perhaps she should keep hidden until her friends step out again, it might be smarter for her to not reveal herself in case they are attacked. At least that way there could be one or two unaccounted for who could help.
She wants to ask her friends, but hesitates in fear that the people might hear.
She decides to take the risk. She first looks around to find who is close enough to talk to.
Bugs watched the bandits come closer. Bandits! A harengon bandit! He didn't like the idea Rabbits shouldn't be thieves! She had seemed confident and in charge but despite the name he had seen no scarf, just a feather in her cap, rather like his own, if a bit more grand. But harengon or not he stayed hidden. But he wasn't idle. These were harengon yet they seemed to be natives in this swamp. He had spent that last hours slogging through this mud making a ton of noise getting half stuck on every step. But these bandits moved with ease. He did his best to look at their footgear. He watched how they moved. He tried to figure out how they managed to move so easily. Perhaps there was a trick to avoiding the mud.
As they moved out of sight (with such ease!) he noticed Aros looking around diligently. It seemed she suspected a trap - perhaps the bandits would circle around. It was a smart thought. He also looked for any sign that they were not simply heading away. When they were out of sight he swiveled quietly in place. He did his best to remain quiet and hidden, but watched behind their position to see if the bandits were circling around them.
Resmae can't hold herself back any longer, they're all harengons!! What luck! And she bounds out from behind the mangrove she was lurking under, going squelch as her feet land completely submerged in the mud.
"Hello fellow bunnies!! I gotta gotta know, how do you move so swiftly through all this muck and mud? I just don't get it, if I don't watch it, I'll be down to my waist! Ooh, and I gotta say," addressing the lead harendgon, "I love your outfit! My friend Aros dresses so well, I don't know anything about that!" she giggles. Then she notices the last one that is using a crop on his snail, "Oh! don't treat your pet like that! I'd never treat my Sammy that way!" She then turns back to address the leader, "Oh, I'm sorry, the name is Resmae, nice to meet you all!"
Startled by Resmae's sudden rush to conversation with the self-proclaimed bandits, Aros can do nothing but gawk for a moment, then jumps out after her. Oh well, her hiding spot had been garbage anyways. She steps up next to Resmae, putting her left hand casually on her friend's shoulder and her right hand even more casually on the pommel of her right sword.
"Resmae's right,"Aros says, looking crossly at the rabbit on the snail. Then she turns her head to to the lead harengon in the snazzy black outfit, grins, and continues "About me. I'm Aros, and I dress very well."
Just as Bugs was cautiously turning around to look for a possible attack from the rear when Resmae bounded out of their hiding spot and called out to the other Harengon. Bug's jaw dropped open in disbelief. Who . . . would . . . jump . . out . . . and say "hello!" to a bandit! Harengon or not! He almost slapped his palm against his forehead in disbelief (But not quiet because he has been travelling with these circus folks for a few hours and that has been enough to get to know them so disbelief isn't really the right word anymore.) but stopped himself before he put a palm shaped splatter of mud on his head. As he stood up out of his hiding spot he gently pushed down on Wildred's shoulder. "Shhh . . . stay here."
Bugs stepped forward next to the other two and doffed his hat with its bright red feather. He looked at the leading rabbit and smiled. "What's up, Doc?"
Resmae jumps out with a cordial greeting as the bandits start to head off. Almost before she can get the words from her mouth, three of the bandits jump so fast and surround her. Peering down at her with menacing grimaces, the leading lady steps up to join them. The three rabbit folk are as large as Balliol was in his former adult state. Resmae's comment on snail handling earns the snail a lashing from its rider.
"Well, Well, Well. No wonder you were so hard to find. Look, lads," she addresses the others in her group, "It's a teeny tiny herangon child... " she pauses, "...and she looks like the runt of the litter." She addresses Resmae, "How on feys great wild can you carry that armour?".
They all start laughing.
"Are you alone lit..." Just as she asks Resmae if she is alone, out pops Aros. The three who stand over Resmae step back to see Aros. Who introduces herself and her style"...and you have a little faun friend." she tilts her head and tugs her waist coat down, looking Aros up and down, "You dress well, you say? How quaint!"
Pausing to look over the swamp from where you appeared, she continues, "Any more surpri..." And out jumps Balliol.
The other three then draw their blades and ready them toward Resmae, Aros and Balliol.
The lady rabbit stands up, puts her hands on her hips, and leans down to look at the three of you closely. "As I was about to ask. Are there any more of you muddy, little scallywags?" She peers at the three of you. And looks over to where you came from. Then looks back at you with a scolding look.
These herangon folk seem to be much taller than you recall herangon to be. Of course, this could be the result of your perception of the world, given your newfound state of childlike wonder.
The sight of the snail peaks Halei's interest. Having a snail would really help them travel much quicker across this difficult terrain. Not to mention the mistreatment of the snail is really irking her. Halei observes the snail and its rider, as well as those in its immediate vicinity, trying to find if there is any possible way to sneak up behind and incapacitate the snail's rider without detection until the last possible moment.
(I wasn't sure whether to do investigation or perception so I did both. Investigation: 19, Perception: 12)
Aros ignores the question. Instead, still grinning, she says "We're on call, Ace. Grandpa Light. We flipped our iron. Handle the gull and we'll have a chat. Cap."
Halei, there are plenty of hiding places around. It is quite dark, (3/4 moon brightness). You think you can see a path to behind the snail. But the hard part is moving in the mud without making too much noise.

Aros kinda digs this guy's vibe! But, good vibes can be deadly too. She commits herself to hiding with the others.
