Where the Cold Winds Blow... A Lost Mines of Phandelver Story

T'laren leaves his bow leaning against the parapet as he draws his second scimitar and closes with the orc, slashing swiftly at him, hoping to clear him out so Aranea can resume supporting their allies below.

Scimitar Attack: 13 Damage: 8

Neral't rappels down the side of the tower, looking like he's drawing an arrow on the ogres.

Barkas takes the hit from the Ogre on his bony wolf skull cap, jarring his head but not enough to lose concentration on his moonbeam.  It does cause him to swing wildly with his stick, not feeling confident with a connection.  As a bonus action, he decides to heal himself as he’s taking these licks.  

Barkas con save to maintain concentration : 14

Action :  Shillelagh strike to the Ogre : 8, for 9 points of damage.  

Moonbeam stays put, burning the Ogre for 4 points of radiant damage, 1/2 if he makes the con save.  

Bonus action : Barkas casts healing word on himself for 7 points of healing.  

Movement :  none

(Droknin takes 13 dmg. The Big Cat is down to 2HP.)

Droknin takes another two well connected greataxes and another well aimed javelin. His smiles is getting less pronounced at this point, and he can feel that if the wind blows a little harder, he could go down. He will not disappoint his newfound friends. He takes a big breath and lets out a mighty roar. (BA Daunting Roar) After that, he will take a bite off whichever enemy is closest to him and was not affected by his roar.

Bite Attack: 9 Damage: 12 (If the bite attack hits, Droknin restores 2HP)

Daunting Roar - As a bonus action once per short rest, creatures of your choice within 10 ft. that can hear you must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw (DC14) or become frightened of you until the end of your next turn.

Aranea smiles grimly as the orc falls to her blade. But just as quickly as one is felled, another one climbs over the side of the tower. She watches T'laren move to engage it. With that orc occupied, she returns to look down at the battlefield before, and she doesn't like what she sees. Droknin is bruised and bloodied, barely on his feet. Drawing on the Raven Queen's power, she unleashes another blast of energy at the ogre under the moonbeam.

Action: Eldritch Blast Attack: 13 Damage: 6

Ogre Saves:  8   21

Orc Saves:  18  4  8

Ogre Save:  9

Barkas misses the Ogre and his Moonbeam seems somehow less effective on the brute.  It is of no avail to the monster, as Aranea blasts down on it with such eldritch force, its great neck snaps from the blow.  The area outside the tower is now a heap of Orc and Ogre corpses, but still they keep coming.  

Until Droknin unleashes his mighty roar.  Three of the Orcs back away, then flee, as does the remaining Ogre.  [Barkas and Droknin can take AOO if they like with their reactions.]

The last Orc, undaunted, charges forward and brings its greataxe down on Droknin's shoulder.

Greataxe Attack on Droknin:  17  Slashing Damage:  9

He lifts the axe over its head and cheers in triumph as the white lion finally goes down. [Droknin is unconscious and making death saves.]  Then it clambers over his unconscious form into the tower, toward the ladder up.

The Party is back up!

Droknin makes uses his claws to attach the fleeing orc.

Attack: 11 Damage: 8

Then he goes down from the strike of the Orc that was not afraid of his mighty roar.

Droknin Death Save: 20

Neral't appears in the air above and rises up before firing down on the ogre.

Longbow Attack: 28 to hit, 10

((Where does the ladder lead up to? Is there a trapdoor or the like or would we see him down below?))

Barkas sees his friend roar and the Ogre and orcs flee, for his part he takes a swipe at the orc, but badly misses with his wallopin stick unfortunately.  Even worse, he sees his friend go down after a greataxe slice.  Barkas starts to shimmer like before, but different.  “Not so fast, my friend, there’s more to do, after we put these pissants down theres time for singing and drinkin, you’re not gonna miss out on that…. well I’ll be….”  The center of his chest starts to sparkle and glisten in the form of a large frosty mug of beer.  He reaches over to tap Droknin, saying “Wakey wakey…”. 

AoO : Missed.  Nat 1.  

Bonus action : Instead of wild shaping, Barkas has the form of a chalice beer mug appear on his chest.  

 Action : He reaches down and touches Droknin, casting 2nd level cure wounds on him, for 14 points of healing.  Due to the Beer Mug starry form, Droknin heals for an additional 9 points of healing, so 23 points of healing in all.  

Moonbeam : Stays right where it is.

Aranea watches Barkas heal the fallen Droknin and breathes a little easier. At least the huge leonin was able to scare off several of the orcs before he went down. The warlock takes aim at one of the fleeing orcs, hoping to slay it while it flees.

Action: Eldritch Blast Attack: 25 Damage: 8

[Regarding the ladder, there is no trapdoor, just an opening in the floor with an old ladder leading down.]

Droknin manages to wound a fleeing Orc, and Aranea and N'eralt injure an Orc and the Ogre, respectively, but once the Leonin barbarian falls, the fleeing enemies regain their courage and return.

Even as Droknin is raised from near-death back to fighting form by Barkas' starlight magic, the assault is rejoined.  The Orc and Ogre numbers have been decimated, but they have drawn blood as well now and look prepared to see this through to the death.

Two of the Orcs resume their attacks on Droknin.

Greataxe Attack on Droknin:  25  Slashing Damage:  12

Another closes on Barkas again.

The last Orc, rolling its eyes briefly when it sees Droknin rise from where it had left him on the ground, climbs the ladder instead in search of less resistant targets.  It erupts from the top of the ladder onto the tower, swinging its axe at the nearest enemy: Aranea.

Greataxe Attack on Aranea:  21  Slashing Damage:  11

The Ogre then charges into the fray again the ground thundering below its huge feet.  

"Don't know why me even WANTED Kitty.  Smash Kitty now!"

It brings its huge club down on Droknin.

The Ogre, in its blind rage, walks right back into the Moonbeam and takes full damage.

"Shit."

T'laren recalls Neral't down on the battle below, behind whichever is the most injured looking from his vantage point, and blinking to their position briefly, slashes at the foe, looking to draw some heat onto his echo and provide relief for his companions.

Scimitar Attack: 9 Damage: 8

((Neral't is within the 30 ft, so doesn't vanish this round, and persists behind whoever on the battlefield. Should it draw any attacks, it has AC 16.))

Droknin roars back to life. "You lot will have to do better to keep me down!!" After another bruise from the Ogre. "You are not smashing any kitty, not today!!" Droknin takes another mouth bite off the Ogre's hand.

Bite Attack: 23 Damage: 11 (If the bite attack hits, Droknin restores 2HP.)

Aranea cries out as the orc lands a hit and draws blood. She stumbles back but quickly regains her footing and lashes out with her rapier, hoping to draw the orc's blood in turn.
