The elf eyes you up and down. You note he has dark skin, marking him as one of the lower cast of Okoku, or a Dark elf in common parlance. His dress is also very foreign to you and you can only assume it is the traditional dress of his homeland.
'Well, I've got a couple of spare hammocks. Depends on where you want to be heading to. I'm sailing east, back towards home, and will be putting in a few ports on my way.'
"We would like to go to Porto di Baio, if it's a possibility. Please forgive our forwardness, we are hopeful to get there as discreetly as possible, and prefer no one in Haukberg knew that was where we were headed."
He looks somewhat taken aback but he shrugs, 'I won't pry into your business if you don't pry into mine.' he answers, 'Passage to Porto Di Baio will run you 200 gold pieces.' he explains in his Okokuan accent, he dark blueish gray faith implacably impassive.
He chuckles, 'We aren't a passenger ship, son, which is probably why you're talking to me, but 5 silver pieces per mile isn't an unreasonable amount to ask and if I really wanted to tell you to scram then it would be per passenger, which it isn't. So really it's a silver and 5 coppers per mile.' he shrugs.
Caper alights into the sky and circles the ship, keeping a cautious distance. He can see a crew of mostly dark elves and a few wood elves lowered crates into the hold, along with sacks.
He does notice a few carefully folded sections of cloth around the base of mast. Otherwise, he sees nothing abnormal.
Ida places a hand on Darwin's shoulder to calm him. "If we can be assured safe and discreet passage, I would be willing to cover the cost. When will you be ready to set sail?"
Agnarr grunts his ascent, 'I will cover half of the fee, I would pay the lot but the money the inventor man gave me is all I have to my name at this point.'
Agnarr hands the man a pouch containing 100gp.
Ida hands over the other half.
'Great. Come on aboard and try to make yourselves busy. If you all stand around idle then questions might be asked.' the Captain says and gestures to the gangplank
Darwin looks at both Ida and Agnar, remembering they were paid by Antonius in gold and were far wealthier than he was.
"That is mighty kind of you both. I expect I should have asked for payment in gold from our mutual friend as well. Doubt I will ever see my item", he whispers to them before heading up the gangplank and making his way towards the mast, to subtly take a look at the folded sections of cloth.
He calls Caper back to invisibly rest on his shoulder.
"It's quite possible that Antonius may be even friendlier and generous now that he realizes we've saved him multiple times. Don't lost hope Darwin, I'm sure he will do what he feels is fair as repayment." Ida begins scanning the deck and each of the areas, just to see if anything stands out. She keeps Hamish close at her side and whispers to him "we will need to keep an eye out for each other while aboard. If they think there may be easy gold to obtain we could make ourselves a target."
Hamish's eyes widen just a moment at Ida's words, then his mind races back to his life before, hiding from the watch and helping the other kids steal food or find a dry or warm place to sleep. He whispers back, "Then we need to make ourselves people not worth turning in. Like the elf said, we contribute to blend in, but make the crew see us as one of them, or at least valuable enough to keep around rather than cash in." With that, Hamish walks on board and looks for the person doing the basest work in order to help out.
The basest work appears to be the movement of cargo to the hold.
As Darwin approaches the folded cloth at the base of the mast he is accosted by another dark elf, with dark mahogany hair and eyes, wearing loose fitting clothes in the eastern style of Okoku. He has a pale silver scar running down the left side of his face.
Despite his less than stunning physique or apparent ability to hold up anything heavier than a half-full flagon of beer, Hamish starts to haul what he can on to the ship and into the hold, nodding politely at those he joins in the work.
"I was just looking to make useful and familiarise myself with your vessel here. The name is Darwin", he says reaching his hand out trying to be friendly.
"I was wondering what these were for?", he asks pointing at the folded cloth. "They looked comfy and I thought I might sit on them whilst I play a tune for you folks", he adds pulling out his pan flute.
Ida moves through from area to area, helping hoist or move things as she can, but she's generally just trying to get an idea of all the areas of the ship. She looks for Peter, but can't seem to convince him to make an appearance no matter how hard she concentrates. She feels a tinge like he is just beyond her reach and she's becoming anxious without him there.
She's happy to see Darwin entertaining everyone, it puts her at more ease with the crew. She finds Agnarr as it seems there is nothing left to do but shove off. "We will be there soon. You doing okay?"
"Stay out of sight and head up to the top of the mast. Keep an eye on things and let me know if you spot something like another ship, or sea monster", Darwin telepathically instructs Caper, adding the bit about the sea monster more to keep the faerie dragon interested.
He will carry on playing his pan flute until gets tired and then have a little snooze.
He doesn't join in the manual labour like the others.

'Well, I've got a couple of spare hammocks. Depends on where you want to be heading to. I'm sailing east, back towards home, and will be putting in a few ports on my way.'
Darwin looks him up and down before answering.
"Might we talk on board your vessel, fewer prying eyes and ears", he says flashing a wide smile.

His expression turns suspicious, 'I am not in the habit of letting just anyone aboard the Ravensmast.' he states flatly. 'Where are you headed?'

Darwin knuckles his ear a moment. "Sorry, must have mis-heard, I thought you said 200 gold pieces, but that is obviously ridiculous!".
"If you aren't taking on passengers, just say so".
"Go sniff around the ship", he telepathically instructs Caper, "But don't be too nosey, don't want you getting caught".

Darwin to look at the Dark Elf.
The elf smiles, 'Oh they're just some flags, they do make an alright chair. Know any shanties?' He asks.
"Not been around sailors much, will see what I can remember from the circus", Darwin replies as he flops down on the flags and starts to play.

The crew begin to sing along and work in time.
The last of the cargo is stowed below deck and the crew make ready to leave.
